Victorian Era Couple Live Like It's The 19th Century | Extraordinary People | New York Post

- On this episode of Extraordinary People, a quirky couple is obsessed with the Victorian era. Sarah and Gabriel Chrisman wear 1880s-inspired clothing, cook with a wood stove and live their everyday lives, in Port Townsend, Washington, as if it’s the 19th century. “I found a way to do a little bit of the time travel,” said Sarah, a writer. She and her librarian husband - who rides a penny-farthing bicycle around town - hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams, whatever they may be.

They need to create a whole community like this. I’m sure there are others who would love to live more simply or the very least experience it.
I think they call themselves Amish lol
Like the Amish did, and since they only marry within the community, they have the highest rate of birth defects and genetic problems of any community in the world due to inbreeding? Yea sounds like another great idea.

Livslushlife haha xD awesome. I didn’t think about that before.
In rural areas, probably yes. Life was unchanged for the poor until at least 1880s when mass production began .
Life wouldn't be much different between those times. Not until the industrial revolution would it change. The only things that changed were clothing and medicine. But the jobs were still the same basically. Doctor, shop owner, farmer, tailor, labor person and so on. Once the industrial revolution began, mass production and the middle class formed things changed.
Lol

@@adyingdream4585 They certainly don't miss the nasty diseases and the abysmal sanitary conditions.
@@elizabethc18
In a lot of ways I'd reckon that Victorian sanitary conditions were better than they are now - apart from smog and soot from coal burning in very urban/industrial areas. Knowledge about germs and pathogens was emerging before the public, and homes were cleaned meticulously on a weekly basis. Compare this to today - when was the last time you dusted the top of your dresser? We're all working so many hours outside of the home, that in many way our hygienic standards today extends only to a lot of showers and hand-washing, which ends up removing the protective oils from our skin in extreme cases.
The Candid Counterbalance in the 1900 there were people who believed washing yourself would make you dirtier, and more prone to sicknesses.

Nicole T Yes it was, the Victorian Era is only exclusive to Britain and when it was under the rule of Queen Victoria.
@@MimixLight if we're talking politically, sure--but these people are using fashion and technology , which didn't exist in a vacuum exclusive to england. france dominated the fashion "industry" in the second half of the 19th century. new england was big on imitating the fashion and trends of the victorian era in england and while it's more properly known as american victorianism, in casual conversation idrc about distinguishing unless i'm talking about the specific political environment in england during the victorian era.
