Such a great point! It's so easy to get bogged down in a set way of working. I've found this over and over again in my work, especially as I get older. Where did that spontaneous joy go? It takes longer now to say, "Whoa, how about this...and this?" But that's where I find the joy in my Art again. And, of course, I write that inspiration down...LOL. Thanks for reminding me!
Good one Chuck. Same happens to me when I get too miserly with my leather, or force a piece of scrap leather into use when its too small. A forced design comes out and sometimes it looks pretty darn good. Thanks for the great info.
Love it. that is what I call stepping out of the box. That is why working with leather is so much fun, you can come up with all kinds of neat creations that are unique to your situation. Keep those videos coming.
Just found your channel you make things look easy I would like to see a wide embellished dog collar that sound like a good project for me and my Two dogs
Jim, yes, I have seen a hand tooled vest and it was beautiful! A vendor at the Texas Renn Fair sold doublets and vests with a tooled veg-tan overlay that was painted to match the vest color. It was very well made and incredibly creative! The problem is that the veg tans aren’t supple, so they don’t drape as well as a chrome, and the chromes won’t tool, so a combination of the two would be the way to go. I haven’t thought of that in years, so with your suggestion I would love to do a video along those lines. Give us some time and we’ll see if we can put that one on the list!
Thanks for your response; I haven't seen many quality leather vests around lately. The ones I have seen are imports and poor quality. There used to be an old timer that had a leather shop in Upper Michigan that used to do incredible work but has since passed. He was a true craftsman. He had no family left to carry on the trade.I think that over time these crafts are slowly vanishing.
Sometimes it takes a situation like low on supplies or money to get us creatives out of our silly rigid comfort zones. Love this!

I don't know what the problem is, I had plenty of volume.
Thank you, Chuck. This helps a lot.
Adorei seu trabalho muito bonito, amei a decoração da sala.

Flor, we're so glad you found our channel. The dog collar is a great idea! We'll put that on the board and work towards it. Thanks for the suggestion!
Great information Chuck! How about some longer instructional videos again keeping the Leather Element videos going as well.
Kerry, thanks for the comment. We are working on some longer instructional videos now and hope to get those up soon. Stay tuned!

Nice!
Has anyone ever made a leather vest and hand tooled it?
