I have this car sitting in my garage. It is a nice champagne pink color and is still in beautiful condition. This was bought brand new by my great grandmother and we have kept it in the family ever since because it’s such a unique car
It's a car for people who just don't give an F about anything. They had a lot of $$ and all they wanted to do was to be comfortable - just like I want to be in 2020 in my 06 Town Car
I had a 2006 Town Car which paid off September 2019, then Oct 2, 2020 I was involved in a car accident. Miserable day that was but the Town Cars will never die as almost everyone wants them which is great.
I have a 2005 limited Lincoln TC fully loaded. Replaced the transmission, suspension, A/C. Keep throwing money at her and my buddies think I’m insane to not just buy a new car. Nope, love it and will replace every bolt and screw if I need to!
Wow, this big old car brings back memories. Back in the day my dad had a 79 Town Car & I had the equally huge 78 Mark V. Those were very comfortable quiet cars. It was like driving your living room down the street 😁
I love big old cars like this. People don't like them because they "DoN't HaNdLe VeRy WeLl" but I love them. And I'd sacrifice handling for comfort any day. My '85 Cadillac isn't quite as big and nice as one of these, but there's hardly a care in the world when you're driving it, when everyone else around me is all tense and in a hurry.
@@anthonybush3134 I never said I was driving it fast. I'm talking about the loose steering, and the amount of body roll you get from taking a corner at literally any speed. My 1st Vehicle was a 1969 Lincoln town car. Baby blue and white. With the 460. 2nd was a 1973 Thunderbird 460 also., Then a 1976 Lincoln Mark IV. Only difference is its only has 400 V8. Pushing 60 I've always been a die-hard Ford fan. Though since I started out at 16, I have owned many a Ford vehicle. Including a Mercur xr4ti. Love mine, gets lots of attention where ever I go during the warm parts of the year.
I absolutely LOVE these old cars, ESPECIALLY the big Lincoln’s. They were some of the best looking luxury cars ever built. In fact, I just purchased a 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V in Wedgewood Blue with a sunroof earlier this week. It’s practically in mint condition. I plan to do some upgrades to it to bring it into the 21st Century. It’ll be getting a reverse camera, dash cam, digital rear view mirror, navigation, modern multimedia system, security cameras and alarm, tire pressure monitoring system, etc…
1978 I went to my college Homecoming in this car! Those opera windows! Spot on with the “Staying Alive”🎶 song, also “September” 🎶or any Lionel Richie! ❤love this video & your commentary! Saw this car recently at July Jamboree car show & I miss it so much! Awesome car great memories!
my grandfather had this same car same color he worked at ford and got the low down on the last year (78) for the 460 v8 in 79 all you could get was a 351/400M v8 he got 2nd to the last one off the line as he had a little pull at Ford's it had every option available and moon roof .
Oops. The Continental came in two and four door models. The Town Car name was an option package which gave you different seats and all the options in one package. Love your enthusiasm, I own one and everything you say is the way I feel. The two door was the Mark series.
I prefer the Town Coupe’ the 460 was not the biggest there was a optional 477 but salesmen would strongly advise against it they new there was camshaft deficeiencies back in that era the 477 was really suited for F - 350s because they were not smooth running

Oh child, Chrysler introduced cruise control in 1959. Power side windows were common on luxury cars by the middle fifties and power vent windows by the early 1960s. Air conditioning was fairly common on luxury cars by the early 1960s and fairly common on standard cars like Fords and Chevys by 1965. You are too young to remember when things like this were introduced, I was there.
Shoulder belts came out in 1990 1991 for back seats. Detroit was well past its heyday by 1979. Air conditioning was very common in cars by 1979 but not the automatic variety. No one driving these in 1979 was listening to The Bee Jees. These were for older people born well before the Rock era. More likely they were listening to big band or Bing Crosby or something.
My 1977 has the same vinyl cover but the oval windows are covered and all of the back windshield exept for a small oval shape. Anybody know why? I want to remove it from over the window
Yeah this used to be my car, was donated. Wasn't exactly my choice but hopefully it finds a good home. Left my led zeppelin 8 track in there for the next owner
Unhook the pollution control devices and that will add 30 more hp. If you also unhook the A/C comparesor that will give you another 20 to 25 hp. So now you have about 265hp and almost 400lb ft of torque
Lets get the models straight, for 1978 Lincoln made 3 models, The Lincoln Continental Town Car, 4-door and 2-door (Town Coupe), the Lincoln Versailles and the Continental Mark V. It was not called the Lincoln Continental Mark V. I'm almost positive it did not have the LINCOLN name plate anywhere on that car.
@@Bbbuddy I had a 1971 and a 1977. Both got 8.9 mpg. The 1971 did 0-60mph in 8.0 seconds. The 1977 in 12.0 seconds. The 1977 was 50% slower !! The 1971 would burn rubber easily. The 1977 could not. It was kind of a dog when it came to acceleration. The 1971 had a high compression engine. In fact, it would knock on anything less than Sunoco 260. I had heavy duty shocks put on both of them to eliminate the floating. And, no, it did not destroy the ride. It made them incredibly stable. Any bumps were transformed into very small snubbed vertical movements. I really enjoyed both of them.
