Good job, Oma! Glad that I don't have to lust after the Sony 24-105 f.4! I am really impressed with my copy of the Tamron 28-200 lens and will be taking it along with my Tamron 17-28 f2.8 lens and a small fast standard prime on my A7C when I go travelling again. Can't wait to try that combo out but suspect it will be a game changer in the weight department.

I compared my Sony 24-105mm f4 and Tamron 70-180mm f2.8 lenses at 105mm f4 at ISO 80 shutter speed 1/250 s on my Sony a7 IV photos at 400% zoom in very small print photographed at 5 meters. My conclusions: Tamron has more contrast and brighter colors, but Sony seems to be a little bit sharper.
I also noticed that video mode stabilization is much better on lenses with optical stabilization (Sony - my respect!).

Great review Oma. I owned the 24-105 but sold it to go with all Tamron lenses. I have shot with the 28-200 but do not own it. It is the ideal lens to pair with my Tamron 17-28. I am debating to get it or not. Like you, I have other lenses and I have to let some of them go but which one?

Very nice video and comparison. The only point I miss is Autofocus speed and quality. There are firmware updates of the new Tamron lenses all related to Autofocus. I own both these lenses, and I primarily shoot landscape and architecture. I find significantly more CA, especially lateral purple fringing, on the Tamron than on the Sony. Removing CA using the Profile setting in Lightroom does nothing. It is so bad that it is often not repairable Manually in Lightroom. The Sony lens is also significantly sharper in the corners at both 28 and 105mm. I am wondering if I have a bad copy of the Tamron lens. Time to find out how good Tamron Customer Support is.

    • @davidligon6088

@@PicsfromRick in some circumstances the Tamron does exhibit significant blue and purple fringing. Especially on high contrast borders with complimentary colors. Orange autumn leaves on a blue sky background. I have not contacted Tamron on this issue, as I just have not had time. In the meantime, I just try and avoid the situations and it is typically correctable when colors are not very far apart. Green leaves on a blue sky, for instance. Don’t get me wrong. The Tamron 28-200 is a very good lens and I use it often. I just acquired a 20-70 and 70-200 f4 macro G OSS II, and I will likely be using that combination. I will be selling the 24-105 because it is redundant, and keeping the 28-200 as my single lens travel solution.

    • @peterbernhard6087
      @peterbernhard6087 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I can confirm that CA is a bit of a problem on the Tamron. But i guess that is a trade off considering its price tag, weight and overall sharpness. Another thing i get a bit more then with my prime lenses is flare.. but maybe i dont use the sun cover (i dont know the correct english word) enough.
But all in all.. i really love this lens. I use it 90% of the time. It is really fun to travel with it. The other 10% i use a 35F1.8 for low light sitzations. Even my very lovely 75F1.8 i dont use that much anymore.. since a 200mmF5.6 portrait shot is even more eye pleasing in my opinion.

@@peterbernhard6087 I also use the lens a lot, especially for travel and hiking. Despite its flaws it has very good image quality, and the focal range is just convenient! I have gotten some excellent images from it. That said, I carry the Sony 20-70 F4 G, and the Sony 70-200 F4 MACRO GII pair in a 7L shoulder bag, a lot more these days.

I have the same CA issue with my copy of Tamron 28-200. The lateral purple fringing is especially severe at 28mm wide open. It gets improved from 35mm and longer.

If you need focus stacking, consider getting a Nikon Z camera, with a Techart adapter, you get automatic focus stacking even with your Sony E mount lenses. The Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 is compatible on my Z5, and the outcome is very satisfying.

    • @Raphi86

@@Nader.subaih hey, in short -> the stabilized lens is better than the one without, but has its limits. If you walk like an Ninja, you can get some good footage. Maybe filming in a moving car/boat -> you have to choose the second, where the footage is not shaky and all stabilizers work together (this would not a whole second without a stab lens)... Its hard to tell -> Im not 100% happy with the results, but a big gimbal was a No-Go. I think its up to your editing skills -> Choose the right sections to make it look good.
      The zoomrange was perfect.
The f/4 on daytime was fine. At night (chinatown bangkok eG) it was okay, but have to push the ISO hard -> most of the time i used my 50mm and 24mm 1.8 at lowlight (which i had to carry around....)
Nice bokeh on closeups. All around picturequality is great for a "travellens"
Everything is a compromise... DO PHOTOS -> ITS MUCH EASIER 😂

If you want a great easy to carry lens? The best walk about lens is the Sony FE 24-105mm f4 OSS. You get 24mm on the short end and, & 105mm on the long end. You can buy excellent used ones for about $675.00! (why buy new?) And you get OSS on top of that. And don't believe the hype with the Tamron's, the 28-75 & 28-200mm. Over priced plastic. Had them both, sold them as fast as I bought them. Yah the Tamron 28-75mm is a bit better than the Sony kit 28-70mm. But not $800.00 dollars better. The Tamron 28-200mm is trash, I've never experienced color fringing so bad. I took a picture of the mountains with the Tamron 28-200mm, zoomed in to 200mm, the clouds were alone the middle half down, it had a blue ban between the clouds and the mountain across the hold frame! If you want great colors, great resolution, the Sony FE 24-105mm f4 OSS is it. And like I said, you can pick them up for alot less that Tamron new... Great video btw.
