The 24-105 is an awesome lens. I gave it to my daughter and I do miss it sometimes. I replaced with the Sony 20-70 F4 G and Sony 70-200 f4 Macro G OSS II combination. They are super sharp (as sharp as the GM 2 equivalents in the smaller apertures), small, and lightweight, and provide a much wider range with some level of “Macro” capabilities. They fit nicely, along with a 1.4TC, in a 7L Wotencraft Pilot bag.
@@Princeton_James the 20-70 is much sharper than the 24-105. I replaced the 24-105 with a Tamron 28-200 for travel and hiking because it has similar IQ, and a much wider range. I either carry the 28-200 or the 20-70 F4 G + 70-200 F4 Macro G OSS combination most of the time. Occasionally I will swap the 70-200 for a 100-400 GM if I expect to shoot wildlife.
Love this appreciation video and great photos too -some of those detailed, abstract shots look almost painterly. I adore this lens too and like you, taken some of my best photos with it. I struggle with the weight a little more these days and don’t use it as much but it remains a staple part of my collection. I can just trust it and use if for all sorts of photography.
Second time watched. I have the 24-105 and the recent 20-70. Both great lenses and a hard choice for travelling. I had decided on the 20-70 for my next OS bike tour, but choice brings suffering-you haven’t helped! I commend you on your calm, non-hyped review. You’re very easy to listen to and I’d happily watch it again.
your shots are incredible, and really inspiring. i just got my first real camera in the r6 mark ii with the rf 24-105 f4 and this basically sold me on it (again). can't wait for my bag to arrive so i can actually head out and start shooting. cheers for the really great video!
Thank you for video. I am thinking about this lens as one-travel-solution, companion to my current Sigma 24-70/2,8. I am tempted by extra reach of this Sony.
It's good. I sold mine after buying a 24-70 f2.8 GMii. Both excellent. Owned both side by side for 3 months. Eventually sold my 24-105 as it was being used less often. Also I find it hard to travel without my 70-200mm f2.8 GM mkii so a 70-200 + 24-70 both f2.8 was generally better for me. As a single lens the 24-105 is great, pretty sharp (not quite aGM but more than good enough for most situations). Some days I miss it. But as light drops it's harder to use. But, augmenting witya prime soon fixes that. Overall I felt the 24-105 was good but a little bit boring. It didn't inspire me with anything in particular, but honestly hard to fault.
Zoom lenses FTW! Haha but seriously! I've never used a 24-105, I mostly use a 24-70 & 70-200 on 2 cameras and barely ever switch lenses. But now this has me intrigued!
Great pics, and good sell of the lens! My only zoom is Sigma 100-400; everything below 100 is primes. If I do sometime want to go with another Zoom, this one looks like a great bet.
I'm pretty confused between Sony & Tamron I am into travel photography landscapes and street please suggest me between sony and tamron also which range should I consider and I will be photographing in low lights due to UAE 🇦🇪 whether conditions 24mm to 70mm OR 28mm to 200mm Sony OR Tamron
Most of the pictures with 24-105 I feel there are some low contrast and a kind of fog. Also I have the lens and I feel difficult to find a good picture for this reason.
Hey I have a question I have the lens now for 2 months I photograph myself with a Sony a7iv I have real problems with the lens with the sharpness even if I set the focus manually the pictures are not as sharp as they should be you also had problems in that direction . 😅
Hey I recognize some places from Slovenia in your sample pictures :) I'm on M43 and have similar attachment to 14-140mm lens. I do 100% of my videos and 80% of photography with it. It's just so comfortable that I'm often willing to compromise on picture by sticking to this lens instead of going winder or longer (and have both 7mm and 400mm lenses). Also this kind of long term reviews are sorely lacking ... I guess clicks for reviews of fresh new stuff bring more views on youtube ...
I need to get back to Slovenia again for another trip soon! Japan's on the schedule for this fall, but hopefully within the next few years. And yeah, totally agree on the lack of long-term reviews. TH-cam definitely seems to reward reviews of new and exciting gear (and if a channel focuses primarily on reviews, there's only so much you can review that you've used for an extended period of time before you run out of things to review!). I'm just planning to include some videos here and there talking about gear that I've actually used for a bit (maybe not 6 years each time though 😂).

Yeah I have the 25-105 and the 20-70. Both very good. I see room for both of them in someone's kit.

Soo nice that you add some example pics in your review! Helps soo much to see, what the lense is capable of!

Still in my lens line up after all these years. Love this lens!
A great review and some fabulous pics there - inspires me to keep exploring - well done :)

For my travel the 24-105 plus the 16-35f4 is perfect. I don't need anything else.

Nice! Do you have a favorite prime? I'm having fun playing around with them more these days and have my eye on a few more...
Great review, and very beautiful photos ! thanks
With this lens going for $800 new quality used, would you recommend it over something like the brand new sigma 24-70 2.8 mkii?
Hi! Nice video! I have a question: is this lens good for travel?, in the city photos?
I'm pretty confused between Sony & Tamron I am into travel photography landscapes and street please suggest me between sony and tamron also which range should I consider and I will be photographing in low lights due to UAE 🇦🇪 whether conditions

Extreme longer wider faster? like what focal lengths and would they be zooms ?

7 years ago i would say it was sharp but the standard has got so high now that almost every e mount lens is sharper than this
Do you think the 20-70 f4 has even more versatility?
on a higher mega pixel camera maybe that can zoom in and negate the 35mm less reach
