      Have used the Canon 18-200. Very good range but the image quality was not really appealing. This Tammy seems much better, but that could be your handling and skills at work as much as anything to do with the lens itself :)

      @@vaidehiarts I owned the Canon 28-300 L for years and loved it. This Tamron is 100mm shorter but 1/2 stop wider at 28mm, is smaller, lighter, and sharper. It should be extremely popular and Tamron should be commended for their FE offerings. The only alternative is Sonys 24-240, which is OK, but not great. For travel or for people looking for an all in one solution, these lenses are fantastic.

    This lens has become the core of my light, affordable photography setup. Paired with a Tamron 20mm f/2.8 and a Sony 50mm f/1.8, I have found my ideal kit that doesn’t break the bank or the back. Yes, the cheap 50 has the slowest AF in the world and the 20 has severe barrel distortion (corrected in camera and now profiled in most software) but all 3 are surprisingly sharp and work so well together for a very attractive price and light weight. All are capable of fully resolving to at least 42mp. I have some bigger, heavier, more expensive, “better” lenses but they stay in the studio now or only come out for specific jobs. Under 2kg, including spare batteries and filters all in a stylish shoulder bag.

      I’m in the process of rethinking my kit to lighten my base weight. This lens is a big part of it, paired with the Tamron 17-28mm and a fast normal prime.

    It's funny because this lens was one of the most important reasons why I switched to Sony full frame from aps-c. No other system to my knowledge -- especially aps-c systems -- offer a lens with as versatile focal and aperture ranges. When I'm traveling with family and friends, I simply don't want to carry around multiple lenses and switch between them. It takes time away from enjoying the moment and adds bulk/weight so I just end up leaving my camera at home in favor of my phone. One of the glaring advantages proper camera systems still have over smart phones is quality zoom ranges though, so lenses like this are an important reason why someone would take their camera out with them on vacation.

    personally since i feel more comfortable with my choices, basically being experienced somewhat, i normally use lights to "shape" my photos and with the availability of light, i am usually at 5.6 for portraits to keep the model fully in focus or for product f8 to f13. that's something i noticed while using the amazing 35-150 which made me basically feel like carrying the weight of that lens is a waste. i picked the 28-200 and i'm happier to have a lighter weight set up that fulfills most of what i need to do. i don't shoot sports so that's no problem for me.
    im going even lighter weight with primes as i got myself the 35mm f2.8 samyang which is a pancake lens. soon i'll buy the sigma 90mm f2.8. i might even not use the 28-200 as much unless its for events since events have alot of movement so having a zoom is probably more important and of course, i use a flash light in events too so 5.6 is not a problem. IF i really needed the light, i'll increase the ISO and use ai noise reduction as a last resort.

How can 3rd party lens beat native lenses in terms of image stabilization is just wild.

    • @JohnDennery
      @JohnDennery 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That sounds like a solid kit although I think the 65 will be a bit tight for many indoor situations. I'm guessing you want that f2 for lower light scenarios indoors where a 65 is probably not as useful as a 35 or 50. But my all-time favorite focal length is 35 so I'm definitely biased here. If you love the 65mm look then this will definitely be a nice kit!

I did some extended research over the weekend and although it is quite tempting to get just one lens instead of two, I think I'll have to go with the trinity as long as I demand a decent level of overall quality und speed to that whole range since I mostly do landscape/nature photography. Would have loved to see something connecting like the 35-150 but not that huge and heavy, maybe with a 28-150 constant f2.8 or at least as an 2.8 - 4. Than it'd be a no-brainer in my case. Until then it's gonna be always that trade-off between IQ and portability. 🤷🏻‍♂

      @@PavSZ I keep wondering if these people who are complaining about the zoom ring being stiff have the lock switch engaged.

      It is impossible to answer your question. I don't know you, what your experience is, what you need a lens for, your budget etc.
      Only you can decide which lens is better for you.

    Just to let you know - best and most versatile lens is Olympus 12-100 f4, Tamron 28-200 is close second

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's only 100mm and only f4

    • @vinse81
      @vinse81 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PavSZ It is 200mm because is m4/3 and is 24mm in a wild end, yeah is only f4, you can manage f4 but you can't menage missing 2mm in a wild, most people prefers lens to be a little bit wild even if it's darker.

    I wish we could also know physical distance between you and the subject. Is this pointless for me wanting to know this?

      it is pointless and seriously impractical to measure while taking pictures. Why would you want to know that?

    Anyone had experience with this lens and tamron 35-150 too and could give a honest advice about purchase? I am talking more of photographer or videographer experience than technical comparison.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have reviewed both on my channel.
      35-150 is bigger, heavier and in a different class than this 28-200mm

      @@PavSZHi Pav, thank you for reaching out.
      The dilemma borns when you consider the two lenses on a travel side and you know in advance that the variable aperture tending to 5.6 of the 28-200 will cause some problem in a lot of situation with poor light; on the other hand you have a bulky pro lens with f2 starting, that will gather more attention and will be a pain in packing and traveling all day long in any sort of environment.
      I own a sigma 24-70 Art that I love it but many time I find it too short. So I considered to add the tamron 70-180, but packing and weight would be a problem.
      I am scared to go on the tamron 28-200 and losing too much of the quality used to thanks to my sigma 24-70 in order to gain some reach.

    "I heard something somewhere....." if everyone started their opinion with those 4 words the world would be a better place. Because opinions formed after that statement inevitably are based off of someone else's opinion that have no idea what they're talking about.........
