Honda EU2200i CO Minder Defeat

- Honda added a Carbon Monoxide detector to their generators. I get it. There are plenty of people who can afford one of these and still be dumb enough to run them inside. That’s how you die. BUT… there are plenty of use cases and users that have reported nuisance trips on these, even though they’re not being used in an unsafe manor.
So here ya go. Here’s how to defeat it, keep your Bluetooth and, keep your indicators. Could still be useful to have the warning LED.
It’s just one wire.
I did this to my Companion and standard models and finally tested them yesterday. I ran them in a small enclosed shed for a few minutes; they didn't shut off. Tested them under load while paralled; everything, including bluetooth worked perfectly. The presence of the CO-minder has always bugged me, so thank you.
Long term did this still work?
@lukesgarage592 Yes. No problems with either unit.
I use this generator for my semi truck and in aluminum box I installed exhaust fan and also some holes for air intake but still I'm getting a CO alarm, so this is a life saver now with summer around corner
Has your generator continued to operate normally after this alteration?
@berettaguy7445 yes, works perfectly. I didn't have any problem at all and I used it a lot
@@borkoniBG Your generator didn't die of CO poisoning lol.
Good hack to know for sure.
I drive too, but its a company truck, so it idles on hot summer nights, which aren't many here in the midwest.
Have a great week.
Took me forever to find this info out, thank you so much!
Glad I could help!
Awesome👍🏻 tho i haven't yet had a false or nuisance shutdown, I've never liked the idea that when the sensor reaches it's end of life, the generator wont run. I knew there had to be a way around it. Thanks for sharing!
Just did it that's was remarkable and the Bluetooth still working 👏
Thank you
Great info! Let’s do the a 7000is with Bluetooth next…
I personally think all this safety crap they are obliged to, or are required to add to everything these days, should have a built in over ride or bypass so the purchaser can choose to use it or not! Having said this, I so very much appreciate this information. I just purchased the inverter and the companion. I noticed Honda must be onto everyone making this bypass because I see the 4 screws on the face plate now require a "special" torx bit, one that has a hole in the center, because the screws have a small pimple in the center preventing the use of a normal torx bit. I over came this by using a small tapered dremel grinding bit. I carefully ground down the pimple (it didn't take much) after which the regular torx bit worked fine. I'm thinking of using a dremel grinding disc to cut a slot in the screw head so I can use a flat screw driver in the future, if necessary! Again, thanks a million!!!
You know they sell tamper-proof torx bits made for those screws...wasn't necessary to "alter" them like you did.
@@berettaguy7445 Yes, thanks.....I miraculously discovered that a few days after my post. Harbor Freight had a nice little assembly of them!
Super helpful video! Worked perfectly, thank you!!
Excellent tutorial!
0:52 does that yellow wire in the indicator bundle run to the 14 pin connector?
Wow, great information
Does the low oil alert still work
@@MarkBlumhorst yup. Low oil alert is still in circuit.
We disconnected the 1st plug for the Co and works no cutting wire need it...
Yeah i hear they stop functioning after a few yrs. So i will wait til after my 3 yr warranty expires. Good to know ty
Thanks helps alot
I have two of these generators that have worked perfectly. They are quiet, and run for hours VERY little gas,
Easiest thing to do is just coat the sensor with several coats of urethane
These sensors will age-out in about 10 yrs even if blocked from air flow. Sealing them is not a long term solution.
