    The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
    My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
    I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

    I think the lower turnover percentage is a function of greater perimeter shooting. With more threes being taken, less dribble penetration and post ups means less then overs poked away in double teams and lane traffic.

    The 1960s and 1970s pace was out of this realm! When basketball was still taking its faltering steps, the pace and style of play was particularly simple. You were asked to push the ball before the defense was set... but to an absurd extend.
    In 1962, the league average was 118.8 PPG (without a three-point line), and 147 rebounding opportunities ! That's insane.
    During that season, 12 starters stayed on the court for over 40 minutes per game in 1962 alone. Wilt Chamberlain gathered an impressive 48.8 minutes per contest.
    Coaching was really different back then!
    BTW, Wilt Chamberlain is a beast even by today's standards.

    • @prajwalkrishnabhat5539
      @prajwalkrishnabhat5539 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wilt would be a beast in any era. If wilt was playing in this era right now, this wouldn't be a three point era but wilts era. The only reason why wilt didn't get many championships is because he would matchup with bill Russel who consistently had better teammates and had way better coaching while wilt was never able to get a good coach to properly coach him. The two times he had good coaches, he won the championship both those times.

    • @ahankumar555
      @ahankumar555 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@prajwalkrishnabhat5539 exactly. Wilt's prime was basically wasted by being a part of a shit team. Whereas Bill Russell had a stacked team with multiple hall of famers, including a flippin' former mvp in Bob Cousy

    • @ahankumar555
      @ahankumar555 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In that era, Wilt had the vertical of MJ, the speed of prime LeBron and strength superior to Shaq. Imagine him in today's era with improved medical treatments and better shoes. His prime would be so elongated as well. Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell were robbed by blocks not being counted. Hakeem has the highest block per game average of 3.09, but Wilt unofficially had 880 in blocks in his last 100 games(LAST, after surgery and being old man Wilt basically). He would basically have a career average of a triple double. Let that sink in

    • @ahankumar555
      @ahankumar555 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wilt is definitely the best player to ever play. Legacy, maybe not. But skill and pure dominance, for sure. How can you beat the guy one on one?! He would block any shot you shoot and dunk on anyone

    • @david.tousignant20
      @david.tousignant20 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ahankumar555
      About the vertical. Wilt Chamberlain Archive made a video. It was estimated between 39.6 and 40.35 inches by the University of Kansas and the Warriors his first two seasons (max reach was 12'9 or 13' depending on your source).
      About his strength. Phil Jackson wasn't able to tell who was stronger : Shaquille O'Neal, Artis Gilmore or Wilt Chamberlain.
      His blocks were recorded from 1959 to 1973.
      But, I get you. He was a rare specimen.
      Chamberlain NCAA record in high jumping events was 6'6.75. Bill Russell, 6'10, then the 7th best jump in 1956!

    I could not stop laughing after Johny said Wilt scored only 58 points in the 5th game. The fact that a game in which Wilt Chamberlain scores 58 points can be looked upon as just an average game for him shows his alien-like extent of dominance.

  • @Dotsetc
    @Dotsetc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +72

    Tim Duncan also unofficially had a quadruple double but two clear block shots werent accounted to his tally.
    He's also the only one who did it in a playoffs, but not only in a playoffs, but in a finals and not only in a finals but in a game 6 finals clinching win.
    Tim Duncan is severely underrated. IMO to me he sits above players like Shaq. Olajuwon as well but thats a different story.

    • @harelhoshea7042

    • @jasmeonjohnson2238
      @jasmeonjohnson2238 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would not put him above Shaq in terms of legacy the two are very close in all time ranking and so is Hakeem.I rank O'Neal 8th all time And Duncan 9th and Dream 11th respectively.I know Duncan's Prime '99-07 was amazing but Shaq's prime 1995-2003 was more amazing if that's possible to say in my opinion.

    • @Dotsetc
      @Dotsetc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jasmeonjohnson2238 During Shaq's absolute prime, Tim Duncan held Shaq to 24 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks on 51% shooting throughout their playoff matchups.
      Tim Duncan himself averaged 23 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks on 50%.
      Olajuwon never got to face him within his prime but in his athletic prime, Olajuwon virtually always had his number while not being in his. Not a knack on Shaq tho. Olajuwon was really the best center of the newer generations(80's +).
      Shaq's lagacy might be greater but it's especially built on his finals performances which were except for an out of prime(but DPOY nonetheless) 36 year old Mutumbo had no markee matchups whatsover coming out of the East and thus utterly dominated because the East had virtually no dominant big men and as a whole was a weak conference.
      In the West part of the conferences Shaq averaged 28 points and 12 rebounds on 54% monster stats still, but for two years not even leading his team in scoring during the WCF(which Kobe did with an average 32 points), showing he was a lot more 'human' during the WC.
      And no really I'm not underrating Shaq here. I'm stating that Tim Duncan and Olajuwon are no matter how highly rated, are extremely underrated, while having clear cut cases to not only be higher placed than Shaq, but potentially even somewhere along the spot of 5th.

    The turnover-numbers are probably a result of multiple things:
    1. Basketball was way more physical back then, and physicality often leads to more turnovers.
    2. Players are getting more skilled offensively and defense is punished a lot more.
    3. The three-point-revolution has lead to more spacing, which automatically leads to less turnovers. It is way easier to turn a ball over in tight spaces

Obviously, he's never been an all-star, but he is constantly roasted by Shaq and Chuck for being a mediocre player and his career is often used as a joke even though he contributed to back-to-back championships as a starter. If anyone could put some perspective on the Jet's underrated career it's the Basketball encyclopedia Jonny Arnett. (Maybe it would be a good April fools video or something)

    The turnover percentage is lower in the modern era due to the lack of physical defense. Just like you said

    For #11, it’s because even tho they have more possessions today, more of those possessions are fast breaks, isos and early shot clock shots that limit turnovers

      Plus players are more skilled than they were, especially back in the 60-70s when the pace was more similar to today

    The reason the turnover percentage has gone down in the last few years is because the newer players don't know what the word "Defense" means.

    • @toogud7918
      @toogud7918 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true, league rules and the offensive systems leads to less physical basketball which produces less turnovers. Players have not gotten worse at defense, the style of how basketball is played has changed

    Answer to that “why are there so many less turnovers” question: 90% because defense is pathetic & barely exists in todays game/ 10% because all 5 positions on the court have much better ball handling skills than in years past.
