    "It's ok to be ugly, as long as you're faster and better!" - words to live by :D
    Pretty neat idea, Wayne. The random orbit sander probably give a better surface than a belt sander would.

      Exactly John. I used to have an ocilating spindle sander geared up to do this with a power feeder but it still left scratches. This sands it perfect without the scratches. Thanks for watching man!

    Loved it. It's like a mix of a jointer with a disc sander. I have a Bosch roto-orbital sander that looks perfect for this project. TY for sharing.

    You're literally my favourite TH-camr because I get the feeling that 99% of the people on youtube only do what they do because its on youtube and somebody is watching - whereas you do it for the sheer pleasure and would do it anyway.

    Thanks for inspiring me mr wooden tool... I'll just do it reversed upside down for sanding small pieces and get good dust collection. Cheers from Brazil

    Great idea, as usual. The way you were describing the fence made me think of a jointer table setup. Maybe someone could make a home made jointer with a rough grit disc sander and off-set fences...

    maibe you can put a beltsander in there instead , should make getting those doorsides passed along the abrasive at about the same speed as cutting a sheet of plywood on the sawbench
    the belt has a flat piece behind the center of the belt and a ramp up and down at both wheels , it can prolly take the long sanding cycles better than the little orbital sander can too

    This is probably my 4th time watching this over the years.
    Do you have any idea how much material is removed per side? And the paper grit #?
    I'd like to know to see if the doors need to be cut oversized to compensate. Thanks!

  • @doug.ritson
    @doug.ritson 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wouldn't it be easier to clamp 5-6 of them on edge and sand them together? Put a small waste board on either side to make sure the outside door edges don't round over. Love the innovation, but just curious if you tried sanding them together.

    • @Woodentoolcompany2
      @Woodentoolcompany2  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DRitz78
      Maybe if they were all the exact same size. not very often I get more than 2 the same size. Besides I don't want clamping marks. These are going to be stained dark and it only takes a small scuff of the woods surface to have it show up as a light spot in the stain color.

    I think I would have used a belt sander with a 120 or 180 grit belt on edge. You would not have all the vibration that the random orbit sander produce'sStill a good build an idea

    • @Woodentoolcompany2
      @Woodentoolcompany2  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +William Castleberry
      The orbital does a better job. The belt sander would leave scratches that would show up when I stain these. I did something like this a few years ago using an ocilating spindle sander and even had my power feeder on it but it still left scratches simular to those left by a drum sander. As far as finish you can beat an orbital sander.

    That's going to take a long time to sand a batch of doors, why not build an edge sander with a belt over 88" around?
