48:33 if he's a million leagues above them, then they're a million leagues beneath him. Edit* it's only used for water, but- if he's a God and in the heavens they're beneath the crust of the Earth, he furthers the nautical reference with *eels* "the sea creature". Just for reference the Earth's diameter is only 2293.373 leagues the moon is only 69199.475 leagues from earth (he over shot that) ←if you take it full circle in the beginning, he was shooting for the Moon, but now has passed it, as in he never imagined he would get this far. ★yes, his word play also cycles beginning and end of song. lol he truly is to damn nice.★ edit2 you'll also notice that he crashed to Earth like a falling star then ascended, this works with the angel and devil play, a fallen angel striving to get back to heaven. The devil was once an angel.

Old Eminem wasn't a better rapper technically, but he was more raw and I think that's what a lot of people are attracted to. Rawness and emotion. Obviously Em is 50 now and has matured personally and musically. You can't fake living a hard lifestyle and rapping about your struggles when you've been living good for as long as he has now. People have to respect what he's good at these days, not compare him to his old music.

Someone in your chat mentioned this but I want to elaborate. When Eminem dies, he is going to be looked at like Elvis and Michael Jackson. The greats become immortalized when they pass away but Em is damn near immortalized now. This man is literally a living legend in hip-hop.

Looking boy is another nod to his older fans like me. The way he slowed it down.
I’ve been an Em fan my entire life. When he released rap god, it was his way of showing everyone how elevated he became. How much he had grown and worked on his craft. Yes, I am an OG fan, still listen to him daily, but Em has only gotten better. He’s in a league of his own, truly. I think most people try to invalidate his talent bc he’s such a legend that if you like him, you’re somehow not a true rap fan or you’re just following what everyone else likes. When in reality, he’s just one of those legends born into a generation that blessed the world with his talent.

I have been able to witness Eminem as well. These are 3 untouchable pillars of their respective genres. (Rock, Pop, and Rap) It makes my mind numb sometimes thinking of the music and artists I got to see first hand as they came and blew up. From 1975 to 2023.

I didn't even know this until the most recent Superbowl, but it's awesome how the biggest, craziest, supersonic fast part of this song is a big shout to an older rap group called J J Fad.
Check out the last part of J J Fad's "Supersonic".
Some of it is verbatim what they say, and he literally calls it out talking about supersonic speed, and a deep voice says says ""JJ Fad" right before he unleashes it, not to mention their dancing silhouette from the Supersonic video pops up on the screen.
In fact, this whole song seems like a huge shout-out to rappers that came before.
I almost wonder if this song isn't just "declaring himself THE Rap God", but also very much paying respects to the Rap God's that came before him.
    To me anyway.

“Summa lamma” is Em paying homage to the lyrics in JJ fades supersonic. Even tho Em literally says jj fade right before he goes into the speed verse people still think he’s saying gibberish 😤 what’s incredible about rapgod is he’s paying homage to many hiphop ogs throughout the song while storytelling a angel vs demon/ right vs wrong theme & ofc showing off his skills with flow changes, multi syllable rhyme schemes & double entendres and it’s still a no.1 hit record that’s fun to sing along to & get you hype. Very impressive for an MC to achieve. It’s not ems most meaningful ofc like rock bottom or arose but it’s him having fun wid’it & proving why he’s the rap god 🐐

It's brilliant, The final word on hs merit, and I can't imagine anyone could despute that. The "rappers are having a rough time period here's a maxi-pad it's actually disasterly bad" is a reference to the rap battle between Cannibis and Dizaster. Bis got worked over to a point where he couldn't remember any punch lines so he broke out a pad of punch lines/book of rhymes and recited the rest of the battle by way of notes. One of the cringiest things to have happened in the rap game. Dizaster obviously won.

I remember 24 years ago rolling through LongBeach and two Crips pulled up at a stoplight playing Eminem and they were numbing it and I knew then that Eminem was going to be huge! crossed all the barriers and got all the respect from the beginning! he grew up poor in the hood just like we all did,I grew up in a neighborhood. Some of my best friends were black and Latino we played ball together we listened to rap together it’s bigger than us all! that’s the beauty of music it unifies, Eminem did what he did Tupac did what he did biggie did what he did, they all did it the best they could do it,I don’t consider any of them to be the best. They’re just the best at being who they are.🐃 but wordplay, I don’t know very many off the top of my head that are this insane photographic, memory and imagination💨

Eminem could've been referencing Macklemore when he says "gay lil boy" bars...since many compared Macklemore to Eminem...also was around the time Macklemore released the song that had said "when I was in the 3rd grade I thought that I was gay".
Also saying he's the Elvis of Rap is extremely accurate considering both of their upbringings and success

He crashed on his motorcycle into a raising barricade(the bad guys activated to stop him) and he flew into the level arm in the garage which had a sign on it, which was the last thing he saw 'Max Headroom' and a height limit, killing him. His brain was downloaded by a tech genius and put into an AI program.

Ok for the reference to the gods in pagan religions, what he is saying is, if you were as nice as the songs say you are, those songs would be loved enough that people, humans, will sacrifice virgins to it. Because in ancient pagan cultures, human sacrifices would be made to honor a particular god. Because the bar is “your songs would be good enough to sacrifice virgins to.” Meaning, more people would love and worship you, like a god, if you were a better person. Also, in pagan religions Odin is what is considered the God, among gods, no one is higher then him. He’s also the god that warriors, men and women, love most and who they fight to please. Also he mentions Rodin I think, he is in the Catholic religion and he is known as the Hand of God.

The diss was to Waka Flacka. Thats why the beat changed to the ABC Rap Type Beat then also ull notice that they show the "Pong" reference in the background during those bars. Also Waka Flaka Flame was his Full Rap name. That's where the flame references come into play. And also the reference he starts with is "Waka Plank n', tell me wtf is you thinkin'. " lol wow his bars are nuts. Love yall. Keep up the great content!

LOL People have been loving elvis when he was alive because at that time he was controversial and made actual cool and modern music. once he dies he was already a legend before and almost became a god. Eminem is the same. new / modern and offensive music and being a god during his livetime. he will live on forever even past his death and become the one and only. facts! enjoy him while you still can!

Literally nobody ever says anything about the homage to "The Show" by Doug E Fresh and Slick Rick in the song intro. "Six minutes, Slim Shady, you're on" is the shout out.
And no frame of reference whatsoever for Max Headroom. Throwing the New Coke reference into the explanation was never gonna help. 😂
It blows my mind how many rap legends he pays tribute to, and nobody even knows. He says:
"Cause I use it as a vehicle to Bus the rhyme"
"Now I lead a new school full of students"
Busta Rhymes hit the scene in 1989 as a member of Leaders of the New School. Random bonus fact: Busta really found his voice and outgrew Leaders of the New School when that group collaborated with A Tribe Called Quest in 1991 on the song "Scenario."
The direct shout out to JJ Fad's "Supersonic", down to flashing the shadow of the dancer from their video.
I could go on and on.
This song is all about paying respect to everyone who came before him and showed him how to do the damn thing. Then he performed this song when he was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and spent his whole acceptance speech reading the names of the greats that came before him.
"I make elevated music, you make elevator music." Pssshh.
    He's brilliant. Class act.

Em is the music equivalent of TV's South Park - he's raw as fuck, but he goes for everyone equally. And while people/media may come for him swinging, he's untouchable, because he does not give a fuck and he doesnt Need them.
That's why Em can do whatever he want and get away with it, because he's just That good and his Heart is always in the right place.

  • @Bobal27

So, a lot of this track is directed at Weird Al. The bars you were missing out on (and the second layer of some that you caught) are disses thrown at Weird Al, and Weird Al fans like myself, partially to finally respond to Weird Al about their beef concerning his parody of “Lose Yourself,” and the mock interview he “conducted with Eminem” to replace the music video that would have been made, had Eminem not declined Al’s permission request on it. In the interview, Al makes it seem like Em is gay, and also makes it seem like Eminem hates Al’s parody, criticizing the musical skill of the track, and Al slams him by saying, “I could only change the words.”
The 3 main subjects overall for this track are Weird Al, MTV (and the televised media in general), and censorship, throwing in his issues with the government (like when the secret service questioned him over whether his lyrics were an actual threat on Clinton’s life).

    • @Bobal27
      @Bobal27 ปีที่แล้ว +2

45:46 What you’re missing is that is a line directed at Al. Previously, Eminem didn’t take Al seriously, for obvious reasons of silliness. Al’s Madonna parody of “Like a Virgin,” “Like a Surgeon,” is one of the things that started launching his career, and Al made a new album, Straight Outta Lynwood, obviously a play on NWA (who Em is representing hard in this track), in 2006. Eminem has dabbled in rapping several times throughout his career, and “White and Nerdy” from that album blew up way harder than Chamillionaire’s original track. A common response from Al fans is that when they’re singing along to one of the songs he’s parodied, that we slip accidentally into Al’s parody’s lyrics instead.
“I don’t know how to make songs like that, I don’t know what words to use,” is a shot at Al, saying that sentence in a mocking tone (as if he was saying what Al says at this point in his critique), that also references and rebuttals the praise of us inadvertently slipping Al’s lyrics into originals.
“Lemme know when it occurs to you, while I’m ripping any one of these verses that versus you (diverse as you),” is what he’s saying back to Al, but also showing some respect as an artist to Al, since Al is super diverse with his music, but he’s saying he’s more diverse.
“It’s curtains, I’m inadvertently hurting you,” he’s saying to other rappers who felt the sting of the last bar, whom he is inadvertently also criticizing, while ripping into Weird Al. He’s also playing off of the surgical curtains from Al’s Madonna parody to set up the next part, since surgery, blood, and gore is in Eminem’s wheelhouse as well. Also he’s telling Al to retire, saying “it’s curtains for you.”
“How many verses I gotta murder to prove that if you were half as nice, your songs, you could sacrifice virgins, too?” Here he’s finally actually referencing the Madonna parody, and twisting it into a possible future Eminem album title, “Songs you could sacrifice virgins to.” He is calling himself a Rap God, and people have sacrificed virgins to appease the gods.
There are many other parts of this song that I felt the sting of, as an Al fan, but I’ll stop for now to avoid spoilers for those who want to relisten to this track with Al in mind, so they can catch their own bars. Anyone still reading this (why?), please come back and compare notes if you want to, I hope there are additional bars I still haven’t caught.
