Manila's Hidden Street Food 🇵🇭 (Ugbo Food Walking Street) | Foreigner Traveling in the Philippines

  • If you're looking to eat real LOCAL Filipino street food, the Ugbo Food Walking Street will give exactly what you're looking for! Located in Tondo, Philippinos, the Ugbo Food Walking Street is only about a 20 minutes bike/car ride away from Downtown Manila.
During my short time in Manila, a couple of people have recommended this walking street so I had to come! But please note that if you're planning on going to the walking street, to go with a friend or a local who knows the area. Although I did go by myself, I don't recommend going alone! And don't forget to go over to Lechonan ni Edith and try their lechon dish - it was my absolute favorite!
    Safe & happy travels.

Side note: a couple of people recommended me to go to the Ugbo Food Walking Street and after watching a couple of videos first, I felt that it was okay for me to go! I didn't get hurt, didn't feel like anyone was trying to endanger me and left being 100% okay. Later in the video, I mention how if you want to go, to go with a local but thanks for checking in, everyone. I am safe.

we are a nation of diverse culture so having a guide helps you to appreciate more bout the pinoy culture. 🙂

Try to avoid saying anything that the locals might find offensive or might show your weakness, like saying dont go alone where you are currently at or that you are a foreigner. 99% of the people around you can understand you and most of them are friendly and wont harm you, but like everywhere else, there are bad apples who prey on the weak. I'm local but i will not go to tondo at night even with company... Im 6ft muscular male and 245 lbs.

I admire your courage. To be honest, Tondo is often painted as one of the most dangerous parts of Metro Manila, that is why there are barely any other foreigner when you took this video. But as long as you avoid walking on empty streets and you don't entertain street children, you'll be fine. One thing is for sure, Filipinos are generally kind people so don't ever hesitate to ask for help if you ever need anything!

And, you had the blessing of trying out Lechon which is generally regarded as the foremost, if not the national food of the PH. And, that empanada that originated in the northern provinces looks legit though, the way it was prepared. Good choices indeed.

You are right, you need to be with a friend or with a group to explore these local and inner-city places. Filipinos are friendly and happy people. They speak English. They love to eat! The Philippines of 7,000 islands has so much to offer! That is why it is becoming to be the number one destination to vloggers and adventurers like you. It's more fun in the Philippines! But, just like in any other country, some people will take advantage of you knowing you are a tourist or foreigner. Be safe and have fun in exploring the Philippines. 😎👍

Grace, I give you props for checking out Tondo. Sure it’s a rough and poor part of Manila, but that doesn’t mean good people don’t live there. That said, there are nicer places to visit… try out Makati and BGC for a bit nicer/ safer destination. Makati has Salcedo Saturday Market and Legazpi Sunday market if you are are still in Manila for the weekend. Both great open air farmer’s markets with lots of food. Also peep out Poblacion in Makati for night life bars and hip restaurants… can be a little seedy near the red light district of P Burgos street, but nothing scarier than you’ve already seen in Tondo. High street and uptown parade in BGC are modern, very expat friendly areas with lots of shopping and restaurants.
Crazy as it is… Malls are also kinda the place to be in Manila. Mall of Asia is massive with lots to see, eat and do. You can also check out the Venice Grand Canal mall in Taguig and take a ride in a gondola haha
A few Filipino food to not miss… Crispy pig roasts like Lechon, Lechon Kawali and crispy Pata. Dip is spicy vinegar. Sizzling sisig is like chopped up grilled meat from a pig head with an egg sizzling on a cast iron plate. Lumpia - Filipino egg rolls. Any kind of adobo - meat braised in soy sauce, vinegar, garlic. Chicken Inasal - grilled chicken with sweet, sour and salty marinade. Halo halo - most famous shaved ice, milk, candied fruits and ice cream. Balut, if you are adventurous - duck embryo.
Also hope you are planning to hit the world famous beaches outside of Manila - El Nido or Coron in Palawan, Boracay or Siargao.

It is really refreshing to see more and more foreign vloggers featuring Manila, the city. For any tourists watching this, Manila (the city) and Metro Manila (the group of adjacent cities in which Manila is in) are generally safe. And, this specific part of town: Tondo, has a misplaced reputation that it is not safe. Don't believe it. When you come to this part of town, the residents will make sure you're safe and ensure you enjoy your time. The only people who get into trouble here are those who has sinister and insidious intent.

On a side note, Filipino people love being on camera. So take it as a certainty that when people see a vlogger or someone filming, they will more likely be more receptive and would want to be in camera. As per the question if that location is still metro manila. Metro Manila, or NCR (national Capital Region) is a collection of 16 cities and 1 municipality which borders one another. There is a city called Manila, which is the largest city in the group, but it is different to Metro Manila which is the collection of cities. Each city brings a different flare and atmosphere to it.

Your one of the few foreign vloggers tried that place,I myself didn't know that place exist, but I'm amazed that there's lot of food stalls to choose from and sure it's cheaper than mall resto.

That's cool that you're tryin local street food. Get used to people staring at you. Filipinos are friendly, hospitable but also very curious and staring is normal there. Great footage of local life. Also, it goes without saying, be careful of pickpocketers. You need to check out so many part of PH. Manila is more like city life. If you're interested in island vibes, check out other parts or other islands.

Girl , you are fearless. Most Manilans won't venture there unless accompanied by a local. Tondo is one of the oldest original districts of Manila. These days, it seems safer and more visitor friendly. Just be careful especially at night.
