If you’re not switching out the barrel I believe you can replace other parts by just dragging them onto the gun in the inventory. The older worn out part will be placed into your inventory.
Yes, you may swap parts and barrel without spending toolkit charges and without degrading weapon condition but you must have the toolkit in your inventory e.g. it won't be detected if it is stored inside the workbench storage.
@@mikew735 looks like I was wrong, barrel cames out intact after disassembling. I think it was a glitch or I looked at the wrong barrel. I'll edit the original post.

As long as you have the exact part what you need to change out, (trigger, reco. spring, bolt, bolt carrier, pump(for shotgun), gasyst). you just need to drag and drop on the gun the better ones. If you have issue with barrels that is the difficult thing and you need to have tool kit in order to change out or fix it. Now, any change even if you do through your "personal" vice (where you craft your things.) or if you just drag and drop as I said it dosent take any HP from any tool kits because that counts as field strip. If you struggel to get any better condition barrel then you have an option to use your toolkit to maintane the barrel. That takes one HP from the toolkit. :) Happy gaming.
swapping parts trough vice won't use charges from kits. Field repairs will take charges. Having cleaning kits you can right click on gun and choose "maintain parts". Every part needing cleaning will use your cleaning kits and every part needing to be replaced will consume charge on respective repair kit
i dont think so. field repair goes on the main condition of the weapen when you make it without a tool. but i costs no charges from the kit. only repair costs charges. when you replace a part with a other part exept the barrel costs nothing you dont need anything for that. or not?
if you have the "example": handgun kit, and you don't have the part or part for your pistol and want to use it repair it, JUST right click the gun and maintain parts and choose the part you want to "HEAL" maintain and it puts it to 100% for one charge for the kit! Happy Hunting! :)
No, you need the weapon first, then you replace / repair all the parts to make it viable Important to note that you can give your companions low condition / broken weapons and they will work fine for them. They will have infinite ammo for that gun aswe.

If you use a >10 kit for first rough cleanup make sure you have gasoline or kerosine. It will add significant bonus.

Yes you can. You need to have a part repair kit and some consumables
When you replace armor parts the extracted parts will be gone! So only replace armor parts that are lower than 50%
Its really annoying how they debuffed the file, now a part has to be a minimum of 60% to be repaired.
