Concrete will definitely crack right above the pipe. It's way to thin to support any type of weight. The rest of the idea is good, but that'll be a forever issue.

Oh my fucking god. Something so simple overlooked I wouldn't trust a damn thing. Really bad job guys

Things like this happen man lmao. As he said the excavator even missed this. Sounds like the guy is genuinely trying to make things right as he should. If it was a bad job he would have told the customer "too bad" when asked to repair

The rule of thumb for culvert pipe installation is equivalent overburden to the diameter of the pipe….that being said a transfer of load exists where a concrete roadbed traverses over the pipe…nevertheless your solution is far more inexpensive than other options…also use the stop/drop rule for the pipe and you shouldn’t run into difficulty in the future, always have a 50 percent drop off the end of the pipe to prevent silt and debris from creating a backup, and don’t permit debris to enter the pipe on the inlet side, (gravel stop)…mostly for larger diameter pipes, with sudden high flows…we install loads of culverts and repair others …..good luck…

Don’t extend the pipe! It will eventually plug up and cause more problems and a really expensive fix! Bite the bullet and dig it up and replace with a longer pipe. Leave it that depth but make sure to use a compactor to minimize settling. Connectors are a great way to create a place for a problem to start.

That should have been pretty obvious when you standing there looking at it, discussing it, and laying it out. 🎉😂

Sounds like a plan to me.... as long as you pay for it.

We try to put 4-5 inches of soil and another 4-5 inches of road bond on top of our driveway culverts. If the excavator put that pipe any higher, it wouldn't have enough coverage.

If you take the entire section out and raise it 5" you aren't going to have any coverage across the driveway and thats what the installer knew. The only thing to do is connect to existing and cover it but that section will crack and possibly collapse with heavy traffic.

    Replace and raise.

That culvert isn’t deep enough wym 😂, that thin patch of dirt above it is what cracked it 😂

I'd take the front of that driveway off and do it right. Looks like the compression test wasn't done right either bc your pipe looks bowed 🤷
