The first time I saw and heard Celtic Woman was when the New Journey concert aired on PBS. I was overwhelmed by the talent of all the girls and the beautiful music they produced. Then Orla came on and sang this song. WOW! The song is so sad and so beautiful. The way she put her heart and soul into it, well it just floored me and I instantly fell in love with her. Then earlier this year I saw Celtic Woman live in concert. I am still floored.
Such a beautiful yet sad song, very well sung. You find yourself wishing you could take them home before they pass. Such beautiful music the Irish have.
What a voice. In my opinion her voice is the best of the Celtic Women. And the rest of them are great, but there is something a little extra in her voice. Flawless, perfect voice.
excited to see Orla has a Christmas special coming on PBS this weekend! Was afraid this talented lady may have retired from music, looking forward to hearing her lovely voice again.
Seen the original ladies of Celtic Woman perform and the concert was so wonderful and the ladies are all excellent singers and loved Orlagh’s rendition of the gorgeous song. ❤️☘️❤️
My grandfather was born in Ballaghaderreen Ireland. He came to America with only a spare shirt and a few dollars to make a life for him and his his family. I listen to this in his memory. He died before I was born, but I wish I'd know him.
Its nice to see that people still flock to see real talent. in a world of pop icons and no talent wannabees, these Ladies from the emerald isle shine all the brighter. I had the great fortune to see them in concert. it was something I'll never forget. I wonder if Orla will ever sing the song "Grace" I bet she would do a smashing job
this has to be the best version I have ever heard, just how it flows and at no point seems forced, soft and emotional music like this is getting harder and harder to find :(
the women of the british isles have carried their voices throughout the ages, their songs speak of the true workings of our hearts and hold a sacred strength and longing. the honesty of love is so powerful! i love these women so much, and thank them for reminding us all of the ancient truth and beauty within by simply sharing their voices!
Orla's rendition of this song always brings a tear to my eye, and I am a grown man! Her delivery, filled with expression and emotion, is simply beautiful. The lyrics are heart wrenching and very moving.
That's what I think about the Voice of Angels..... I hope to go in Heaven soon to listen all choir & Orchestra. Thanks to GOD !! Love from Ireland. Renzo * The italian guy...
What an absoloubtly beautiful song, and what a beautiful voice, and amazing harp. Why are todays singers so bsd. This is pure magic. Thank you celtic Woman
Non ho mai ascoltato niente di simile! E' fantastico... la sua voce è così bella... I've never heard anything like that! It's great... her voice is so beautiful...
In my dreams, the former Celtic Woman stars Órla Fallon plays with her harp, Máiréad Nesbitt plays with her violin, Hayley Westenra at the centre stage and singer, actress, dancer and soprano Sarah Brightman plays with her piano while they are singing and performing Handel’s Gia Nel Seno. I’ve got this concert Sarah Brightman Hymn on my DVD. That could be their Easter number one hit single. They were sung at the royal Albert hall in London a few years back in April 2015.
My daughters took me to see Celtic Woman in Atlanta, GA. a couple of weeks ago. It was a great show, but Ola's beauty and talent were sadly missing. Songs like this really touch the heart. Still, I'd advise anyone who is able to go and see them on tour. You will not be disappointed.
Oh my oh my! This is the most hauntingly beautiful song, she has the perfect voice for it, what an incredibly gifted singer and harpist! We are so blessed to experience this performance!
I love that at the beginning, when she's walking out, you can see the drummers clapping for her. Even they know to clap for an amazing and breathtaking performance!
I love the Celtic style of singing, it's very lyrical. Classically, it's very different from certain operatic styles, but I think it's a bit similar to the Germanic Lieder. It's a very natural style, and I just love Orla's vocals here. So gentle and natural!
I sang this in the satb choir in All State Chorus. It was amazing. Especially the Tenor Solo part. Everyone in the audience was crying. But during rehearsal at my school everyone was commenting on how I had already memoriZed the song even before I had gotten the music. So I was just like " I'm Irish. I have heard this song sung so many times you wouldn't even believe." This song has so much meaning behind the lyrics and it is much better than most music you bear today.
Overall this is my favorite songs from the original celtic women (vocally). I come back time to time and have soft remembrance of many things from over the years. Truly you feel the heart and soul in this piece, much like the violin piece "lost rose fantasia" which is itself a masterpiece from them. Soul truly makes a difference in the quality of the music.
I remember listening to this song when i was a child, when starting up endless ocean on the wii. Such beautiful singing. I'm glad to have knowledge of this music.
I wish I was in Carrickfergus Only for nights in Ballygrand I would swim over the deepest ocean The deepest ocean for my love to find But the sea is wide and I cannot swim over Neither have I wings to fly If I could find me a handsome boatsman To ferry me over to my love and die My childhood days bring back sad reflections Of happy times spent so long ago My childhood friends and my own relations Have all passed on now like melting snow But I'll spend my days in endless roaming Soft is the grass, my bed is free Ah, to be back now in Carrickfergus On that long road down to the sea I'll spend my days in endless roaming Soft is the grass, my bed is free But I am sick now, and my days are numbered Come all you young men and lay me down
It sounds like the first two lines of the last verse says: I dreamt today, and I'm seldom sober (???)... from town to town But that isn't on the studio version
I'm drunk today and I'm seldom sober And run have I from town to town. But I am sick now and my days are numbered. Come all you young men and lay me down.
I agree, very beautiful song. I didn't think very highly of Orla in the past because of her style compared to the other CW girls but I have come to appreciate how unique she is and now I regard Orla very highly. I have her album and she can really hit you on the inside with a song.
You're certainly right. We need to think of them as artists. Each one is going to present a piece in her own style and grace. It wouldn't be wise to say "this one's better." They're trying not to do it all the same; it's about art.
This girl . . is what womanhood is all about. Indeed a true Celtic Woman. Strong. Spiritual. Musical. Modest. Brave. Gentle. Bright. Intelligent. Beautiful. Òrlagh

beautiful. I hadn't heard of this song until I got Endless Ocean: Blue World but ever since then I've loved it.
My dear dad had me sing this with him a few days before he passed. Rest in Peace Dad miss and love you always.
Nice to see romantic music still exists. All you here on the radios are one night stand (pop) music.
This song is so calming and lovely; I love the harp
i find slow songs like this very touching and calming- that's why i love celtic music
the most beautiful interpretation of carrickfergus, EVER! kudos to Ms. Orla Fallon!

Beyond doubt it is the ultimate perfection of a wonderful song. Such subtle distinctions are present in her performance. Bravissima.
Well said
I wish this would go on forever. Utterly gorgeous arrangement and singing...
The song is so sad and powerful but finds its consolation in her angelic voice that brings hope to the world.

such a wonderful song, and sung so beautifully, only just found out that Celtic Woman exists, and now a fully fledged Member and lifelong fan.

I wish I was in Carrickfergus
Only for nights in Ballygrand
I would swim over the deepest ocean
The deepest ocean for my love to find
But the sea is wide and I cannot swim over
Neither have I wings to fly
If I could find me a handsome boatsman
To ferry me over to my love and die
My childhood days bring back sad reflections
Of happy times spent so long ago
My childhood friends and my own relations
Have all passed on now like melting snow
But I'll spend my days in endless roaming
Soft is the grass, my bed is free
Ah, to be back now in Carrickfergus
On that long road down to the sea
I'll spend my days in endless roaming
Soft is the grass, my bed is free
But I am sick now, and my days are numbered
Come all you young men and lay me down
