    The gun is obviously using one fusion core all at once to open a quantum wormhole to another plan of existence, where it harvests an unlimited energy source called magica. It then uses this magica to fuel its normal operations of emitting burning beams of light in the direction indicated by the orientation of the weapon's barrel. It needs further fusion cores loaded, because of a hardwired safety feature in the original weapon, that won't let the gun try to fire without a fusion core inserted, which the original modifier of the weapon never took out, because they were lazy, and it worked well enough.

    I use a mod that creates a Gatling Laser ammo type. You create gatling laser ammo at the lab station where 1 Fusion Core = 500 ammo. This allows this weapon to work properly, similar to all the other legendary weapons with the Never-Ending prefix, consuming ammo until you are out without reloading. Never-Ending just means you never have to reload.

    • @lostbutfreesoul
      @lostbutfreesoul 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Indeed, that is why these bugs are occurring... fusion cores are not proper ammo.
      Where other ammo types are a straight 1 ammo for 1 shot, cores are 1 ammo for 600 shots. This is likely going to cause all sorts of problems when interacting with code designed to pull 'shots' straight from inventory. It is going to try and interact with the core as if it was a 1 ammo for 1 shot, which even explains some of the strange results Oxhorn got where it consumed a whole core after 1 shot.
      I think we should be amazed that someone attempted to fix this problem, even if it did mean more complicated code that clearly has a few bugs still.
      Personally like the solution of adding an ammo type, but then I am very much against the idea of fusion cores in the first place. If I could make a mod; Make power Armour and Gatling run off fusion cells, turn all but one core into depleted cores that trickle power to a settlement at best, those two functioning cores are designed to run any cell based technology indefinitely. Sure, a high end character would have Power Armour or energy weapon that never needs recharging but that same character is likely swimming in Cores by that point in the game anyway....
      Additionally, you could make it so that core runs a power plant with the ability to export indefinite power to all settlements in the commonwealth. It might even require laying power lines between settlements like we do with supply lines already. Costs resources to build such a line and can come under attack by raiders looking to cause trouble, so another level of management you have to worry about.

      This one seems to be the most straightforward and easy to use for people playing on PC:

      I would try typing “Gatling Laser” in the search bar on mod page site for consoles and see what comes up. Seems like it would be easy to make so I bet someone would’ve made it by now

    Question: in Fallout Lore, shouldn't a Fusion Core power a Power Armour for about 100 years?

    • @LordVltor
      @LordVltor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +247

      From Fallout 1, you can wear Power Armour with no training at all, and you can equip it alone 'on the spot'. Though it is not powered or, at leas, you do not need to replace power sources.
      I was wondering if Power Cores shouldn't be rarer, but just 'eternal'. After all, this should be the original lore, I guess.

    • @AndrewKulsGuitarsGear
      @AndrewKulsGuitarsGear 8 ปีที่แล้ว +94

      TeaInTheMorning4929 in Fallout 1 and 2 you could get PA at the start of the game, so no training or else needed

    • @funyarinpa336
      @funyarinpa336 8 ปีที่แล้ว +156

      Training was never really needed and while lore does state it took multipe people to put on a suit I assume they just dropped that part in FO3, FNV and FO4 (especially since FO3 and FO4 barely respect the franchises lore anyway) in order to make using them more convenient for the player.
      Bethesda is however doing their best to turn Power Armors into the most marginal thing ever. In FO3 you saw your first suit of PA way earlier than you should have and you got it not too long after that and in FO4 you're basically handed the first one within your first hour of playing. I assume they added the power limitation (which completely breaks lore in regards to the cores) in order to balance the fact that you get your PA so early on.
      Meanwhile the real FO gaves (meaning the ones made by Black isle and the former Black isle people at Obsidian) don't even ask for a power core because it is borderline impossible for it to run out on you no matter how much you use it. You could hop into a Power Armor as a kid, start running and then continue to run until you die of old age and the core would not only outlast you, it would likely have enough power for someone else to do the exact same thing again. Black isle/Obsidian balanced this by making PA as rare as they are supposed to be by lore. If you want PS you'll either be attacking the Brotherhood, the Enclave (or whatever is left of them) or you can consider yourself one of the luckiest people alive if you just "randomly stumble upon one".

      Ledge Buoy fo3 and fo4 don't respect the law? who the fuck cares at least they're fun games. plus Bethesda are the ones who actually made fallout popular anyway.

    • @funyarinpa336
      @funyarinpa336 8 ปีที่แล้ว +126

      +tom 95
      Quite a few people care about the lore. Especially considering you are on a channel discussing the story of certain areas and people which is often based on the games lore. As for FO1 and FO2 not being popular, that's a pretty ridiculous notion to be honest. You might simply not have been born when the games came out, but that doesn't mean that they were not considered gems that everyone who called themselves a gamer had to have played in their time.
      Bethesda bought the rights to the franchise precisely BECAUSE the Fallout franchise did so well already. People back then (and by back then I don't mean ancient rome but the early 2000s) were extremely pissed that after Interplay screwed over Black isle Studios (and forced them to cancel development on their own version of Fallout 3) they then sold the rights to Bethesda and Bethesda just sat on it for a while doing absolutely nothing until they released a game that was set in the FO world but set in one of the 2 areas that were stated by lore to no longer house ANY life, because they thought "Uhm, president and stuff? Washington's gotta be important, right?" when the previous games clearly stated that the president left Washington years before the war started because he knew it would be bombed to shit and then Washington and NY were in fact bombed to shit and hit by 90% of the nuclear bombs that hit the entirety of america turning that area into a giant crater with radioactive storms that would STILL kill any human that tried to walk there.

    The Gatling Laser fusion core use is buggy at the best of times, often inserting new cores automatically. Probably the dichotomy between the cores and the shot allowance is what is causing the Neverending enchantment to glitch.
    With all other weapons with Neverending (Prototype UP77 "Limitless Potential" at University Point) it fires rounds straight from your inventory without the need to reload, effectively giving you an unlimited magazine, but not infinite ammo.
    On that note: Neverending missile launcher is the ultimate weapon.

    At a glance, when showing the jet pack glitch, it looks as though you were still using the 5 cores you had stacked together. If that is correct, then the fact that the 4 were showing zero charge might explain why they cycled through very quickly only giving you a small amount of boost from the jet pack. This would be related to the question surrounding why they were registering zero in the first place upon using the Gatling laser. I'd love to look at this code. I suspect it's an easy fix. Finding it will be the problem.

    From Fallour wiki:
    "If the user has one or two fusion cores in the inventory, Aeternus will fire off 1 or 2 rounds before fully depleting the cores. If one has at least three fusion cores, the fresh loaded weapon will use a seemingly random portion of one fusion core before reaching "unlimited ammunition." This is valid up until one loads a new fusion core either by equipping another weapon, modifying the Aeternus in a weapons workbench, or increasing the amount of fusion cores in ones inventory."

    after you kill all the raiders and completed open season quest yes you still can do Amoral Combat quest, but its alot harder to get so if you killed all the raiders but want this weapon you still can it will just take some time.
    also, if you had a problem where you killed the rogue knight and he doesn't have the aternus on his body just look around, he has a randomly generated legendary thing but to get the aternus look on the ground its not in his body
    if you do it after open season it will be raiders there, they wont be hostile until after you kill the challenger, you can also pick pocket the raiders(before or after open season) and if you get caught nothing happens

    Fusion cores aren't rare if you buy them. And they are relativity cheap if your using them as ammo.
    I ran the calculation and even at 1 charisma when fusion cores cost 670 caps, you'll still be spending a mere 1.34 caps per shot, a huge contrast to any laser rifle which would cost 3.6 caps per shot with 16 charisma or 10.05 caps per shot with 1.
    and 1.34 is the most expensive the Gatling laser will go. Not to mention the fact that you can reduce ammo consumption greatly with charging barrels, increase shot yield by up to 1100 with nuclear physicist and the repair bobble head near Lexington.
    With all of this combined the cheapest ammo will get is 0.218 caps per shot.
    Although to be fair it is still a gun best suited for a heavy/power armor build with good intelligence due to the fact that most mods are blocked behind a Science! level 4 requirements.

    • @nucleus691
      @nucleus691 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The vanilla game caps its ammo limit at 500 shots and what actually happens with nuclear physicist is that you have 54% charge left which is about 22-24 minutes of power armour usage but without power attacks, jetpacks, vats... However, it is still just SLIGHTLY above a default core without skills. So... ye, 500 shots each dealing above 120 damage AND around default charge left? 2efficient7mei.

    • @pbanthonyv
      @pbanthonyv 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, especially with charging barrels, you can reload when you get low and sell those low cores back to a merchant for the full price. So, I think it's base price is 200 meaning 240 is buy price and 160 is sell price with max pricing. 80caps for 500 pretty beefy shots.

    The Gatling Laser on its own is buggy enough. When you switch weapons, it always ejects the current fusion core and starts on a new one, eventually creating a massive and annoying list of partially used fusion cores. Applying that legendary effect was a horrible idea, making something that's already buggy an absolute glitch fest. I wish someone would make a mod that makes the Gatling Laser load ammo like the Junk Jet.

      There's a mod that converts's the Fusion Core Ammo type to Gatling Laser Core's, essentially skipping the entire spent fusion core issue. You can convert 1 core to 500 gatling laser core rounds at a chemistry station, and it works with all existing and future gatling laser drops. Super simple, simple small, such a huge change.

  • @Queensarrow
    @Queensarrow 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Aeturnus is, I think, related to Eternal so it's probably closer to being pronounced like that.
    As far as the Never Ending effect goes, if you happen to find it on a smaller gun like a pistol or a rifle what happens is that you can load your entire inventory of ammo into the weapon, that means it's "unlimited" because that's how much you can carry(if you don't mind moving slowly). On an automatic weapon this effectively means you can keep firing a never ending stream.
    Not sure how this effects the Aeternus though.
    Considering this comment is pretty late I wonder if you have a better idea of whats happening.

  • @procrastinatinggamer
    @procrastinatinggamer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    I think the intent of the Neverending Legendary Effect (since I've seen it on a few others) is that you just don't have to reload and it just pulls ammo straight from your inventory. I expect that the effect just bugs out because of how the weapon effect, fusion cores and, possibly, the Nuclear Physicist perk interact

    You had asked for info experience about getting this. I fortunately didn't have any problems as reported by several players. The arena showdowns started with the first one after I came back from doing a radiant quest for a tribe. I would go do another tribe radiant quest, return, and was informed another fly was coming through the Gauntlet's web. This happened every time until I was able to get the Aeternus. So, basically I did five radiant tribe quests and immediately did the arena battles. Sounds like I lucked out and the game performed correctly. This was a great video about the gun and how it effects power cores. Please keep up the awesome work!!

Charging barrels are the most efficient source of ammo in the game, each shot can deal up to 160/170 damage with the right perks, on armoured targets this is MUCH more efficient than using standard barrels, even on enemies like feral ghouls with pretty much no armour or damage resistance the charging barrels work just as good as the standard, 2-3 shots on most will kill unless it’s glowing ones or legendaries.. and if you really care about a pointlessly high fire rate then crouch in third person with charging barrels and voila you have a overpowered monstrosity

    @Oxhorn. I never had an issue with fusion cores, when I started the game I had a fully speced out intelligence and the first perk I picked when leveling up was Science! and that allowed me to go into sanctuary and build the biggest water purifiers, I then farmed for resources and traded them for all the necessary components to build a ton of these things along with a ton of generators with the 10 power rating. With this I am producing 600 purified waters per day. And I just go to diamond city with as much as I can cary and still fast travel and trade them for fusion cores, armor, weapons, anything I need. So I have a nearly limitless supply of fusion cores.

    As a general rule, Latin words with "AE" in them, are either phonetically pronounced as "ee" or as "eye". So it would be named either "Eternus", or sound as if it's called 'Eye'ternus. I think in this case, it would be safe to assume it's pronounced "Eternus".

    5:15 I think what happened is you used the jetpack just as soon as the fusion core ran out, then it saw all the other fusion cores as one unit of ONE fusion core. That's my assumption.

    The weirdness regarding the fusion cores getting depleted works as follows:
    When you equip Aeternus, it plugs a fresh (i.e. 100 / 100) core into the gun. This will display in the ammo display as 500/n, where n is the total number of fusion cores in your inventory. The level of charge in each of those fusion cores is not relevant in calculating n. As soon as you take your first shot, the display will be brought to n-1/n. If you check your inventory, the previously fresh core will be at .2(n-1) / 100. It will remain at that level for as long as Aeternus remains equipped. The core gets instantly "burned" down to that level, but never any further. If you unequip Aeternus and reequip it later, this will occur again, and another fresh core will get burned. Thus, the closer you are to having 500 cores in your inventory, the less your cores will get burned when you unequip and reequip Aeternus.
    While this does mean that Aeternus does (annoyingly) deplete your overall access to fusion power over time, particularly if you swap weapons frequently, the thing to bear in mind is that sustained fire from a Gatling Laser will normally deplete a core in just under twenty seconds. Partially depleting a single core whenever you unequip Aeternus is _far_ less of a strain on your resources over the long term.
    I am uncertain as to what occurs if you have more than 500 cores, or if you have the Nuclear Physicist perk (which effectively increases the magazine size of Gatling Lasers), as I have not tested those conditions. I suspect that in the former case, the result would be that your cores don't get burned at all. I suspect in the latter that your cores would become _more_ burned, as the core would be set to (n-1)/(5*1.25) / 100, (n-1)/(5*1.5) / 100, or (n-1)/(5*2) / 100 at rank 1, 2, or 3, respectively.

    I figured it out! And then I posted it on the wiki. When firing the Aeternus with a fresh fusion core, the shown ammo will always become 1 less than all the fusion cores ones inventory. The remaining charge of the active fusion core is not equivalent to this number. If the maximum number of fusion cores in ones inventory is 1, the ammunition in the clip will become 0, causing the fusion core to deplete and vanish. As such, the Aeternus is nearly completely useless if one has only 1 fusion core in their inventory. Additionally, if the amount of fusion cores in ones inventory increases while the Aeternus is out, the current fusion core will instantly be consumed and the clip's ammo will become equal to the remaining fusion cores in ones inventory, then decrease by 1 when you fire the Aeternus again.

      Ed The Pine This is correct but with Fusion Cores as ammo type, it changes. Shots/ammo ratio aren't 1:1 like almost every other gun. So if you don't have to reload a core ever again, you can keep shooting it forever using the same core. It was initially an oversight on Bugthesda's part that turned in our favor later on. Instead of fixing that bug so Never Ending Gatling Lasers could drop randomly, they just kept it as is, made a unique variant, and made sure it was hidden behind a paywall, arduous side quests, and high level requirement to even work your way to the prize. I actually liked how it was presented

    When you use your power armour, the game uses the fusion cores with the least amount of charge first, so because those 4 fusion cores claim they have a charge of 0, when the power armour 'use' them first. When you go up to your power armour, if you have a FC on you, you will put in into the power armour, if it doesn't already have one, the power armour never checks if a fusion core is empty because if it is empty it leaves you inventory, so you would not normally be able to put an empty FC into the power armour anyway. When a fusion core becomes empty, the FC itself sends a bit of code saying 'i am empty' and then the power armour ejects it, the only reason the jet pack effects this is because the jet pack draws more energy then normal, so the jet pack itself has to check the amount of energy in the FC to see if it is enough to take off, because of this it immediately uses up those four FC after realising they have a charge of 0.
    It is the job of the gun/ power armour to remove the fusion cores from your inventory, the fusion core doesn't remove itself.
    This is why the power armour doesn't remove the FC until you use the jet pack, because the FC is already empty, it doesn't give the power armour the peace of code saying 'i am empty', because it should have already been taken out of your inventory by the thing that had emptied it. This is why it works non stop with those FCs, since the power armour's only interaction with the FC is to draw a certain amount of energy from the FC, and to eject it and remove it from the players inventory when the FC says it is empty. Because it never gets the message from the FC saying it is empty, it just continually uses energy, never realising it is empty and ment to be ejected.
    I have no idea why the gun depletes them and still leaves them in your Inventory tho. That is the bug, if the gun took out the empty fusion cores from you inventory then the power armour would work fine, due to it theoretically never needing to check if the fusion core is empty, since there should never be a time where the player has access to a completely depleted FC.
    The fact that the gun doesn't take out the fusion cores from your inventory, suggests that it was ment to not use any ammo, because then it would never need to take out an empty fusion core. So the bug probably is something to do with the amount of ammo it uses. Probably be able to fix this by altering a single variable, if it was a complicated mistake, it would not have made it threw debugging.
    The reason that the FC meter on the power armour is right is because it does check the level of charge of the FCs. It just doesn't have any effect on the attual power armour or the FC.
    Sorry if this is a shit explanation, didn't know how to right it any better. Also correct me if i got anything wrong.

    "Amoral Combat" becomes available upon completion of "The Grand Tour", not establishing outposts in the Commonwealth, so its IS possible to get this weapon without fully commiting to the Raiders. You just gotta claim the various parks for them. After getting your hands on Aeternus, you can just turn on them from that point.
    As for farming the quest, I've found the best way to consistently trigger "Amoral Combat" is this:
    1. After doing it the first time, exit Cola Cars and immediately turn left.
    2. Climb the wooden stairs and run across the fenced off part of the Gauntlet (where the raiders took potshots at you). Make your way through the parking building and step out into the area outside Nuka-Town's walls.
    3. Take another left. You'll see a tree with ropes/cables leading down into the ground, and a Cappy statue on a small ledge a ways past it.
    4. Run past the rope, circle around the statue and make your way back toward the opening leading back to the parking building.
    Do a couple of laps between the opening and the Cappy statue and the quest should trigger fairly quickly, even if you just killed the last wastelander a few minutes prior.
    Rinse and repeat until you can square off against the Rogue Knight and claim Aeternus.

    Gatling Lasers are buggy as hell to begin with. Aeternus just highlights existing failures.
    So the way the "Never Ending" (Unlimited Ammo Capacity) Legendary Mod is supposed to work, the weapon has no maximum magazine size and feeds directly from your inventory. Gatling Lasers, because they use an unconventional ammo relationship, could then theoretically become glitched into infinite ammo. Unfortunately it does not actually work like this. Because the magazine for a Gatling Laser is actually a script independent of your inventory, using a Never Ending Gatling Laser causes unreliable consumption of fusion cores. Generally each time you equip the weapon, it will consume one fusion core to start firing. If you only have one, this reduces your inventory count to zero which then stops the weapon from functioning (but also burns out the core). It is unknown when or if Bethesda will fix this, and no modders to my knowledge have come up with a fix for it yet. I am aware of one workaround, changing the ammo type to fusion cells instead of cores and eliminating the fancy magazine script from the weapon but this causes other issues.
    Gatling Lasers on their own are actually the most cost effective weapon regarding ammunition. 600 rounds per Fusion Core, where each Fusion Core costs between 300 and 500 depending on your relationship with the vendor and your level of Charisma/barter bonuses. The net cost is always slightly better than one shot per cap, maxing out at about two shots per cap, which gives you a better cost effectiveness than even .38 ammo. If you have at least one or two decent water farms, you can afford as many fusion cores as you could possibly need. The perks that reduce fusion core depletion also affect Gatling Lasers in that a core ejected from the Gatling Laser will have a percentage of its charge left based on your bonus to fusion core depletion from perks, further increasing their ammo efficiency. The final rank of Scrounger also affects Gatling Lasers, placing a fully charged fusion core into your inventory when it procs.
    Honestly, your Two Shot Gatling Laser is a better bet overall, as it will have a higher damage output and be less buggy. When/if this is fixed, then Aeternus becomes the do-all-end-all weapon it seems intended as.

    The funny thing about Aeternius is that the ammo changes to how many fusion cores you have on you (for example; you have 70 fresh fusion cores but the magazine in Aeternius is 69, for all intents and purposes the fusion core drains to match the amount of fusion you have). To prevent the fusion core from being drained, you have to A) not wear power armour or B) carry 750 or less depending on a specific perk fusion cores at once.

      @Solxoltza 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason its infinite is because a fusion core isnt ammunition, its a charge. So wereas with a pistol, you have a set numerical value of ammunition, with a fusion core you have a charge. You never have to reload the fusion core, ergo it has infinite charge. I believe the reason why it fully depletes the charge but continues to fire is because when you when you go over the integer limit, it will set it back down to it lowest number. so If the limit is 100, and you set it to 101, it will be 0. Maybe im just spitting bullshit, but thats the only explanation i can come up with.

    PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR FALLOUT 4 PLAYERS (PLEASE LIKE THIS COMMENT SO PEOPLE WILL SEE IT) I literally just tried Oxhorn's method of triggering this quest on PS4 after watching this video, and encountered a DANGEROUS bug where you can accept the opportunity to fight in the arena multiple times when talking to the guy in Nuka Cade. If you do so, this will in turn cause multiple enemies to be waiting on the other side of the opposite door when the fight starts, The PROBLEM is the game bugs out and only one of the enemies takes damage from your attacks. All the others will be COMPLETELY INVINCIBLE to attacks from both your character and NPC's. In my game, I was able to kill the one enemy in the arena that WASN'T invincible, and exit the arena after the doors opened. However, the invincible enemies were PERMANENTLY trapped in the arena fighting the Nuka World raiders that usually spawn inside when you tell to the Nuka Cade guy you wanna fight in the arena. If your playing on PS4 and use Oxhorn's method of farming Amoral Combat, It's IMPORTANT you save before accepting the quest from. Nuka Cade guy.

    I'm a bit late to the comment party here, but the Never Ending legendary effect is supposed to make it so you never have to reload. Usually, weapons with it will still consume ammo, but it's treated as having an infinite magazine capacity. I never did try the effect on a Gatling Laser, but I suspect I'd run into the same issue without any sort of patch. This is likely because Gatling Lasers don't use ammo in the normal way and each fusion core counts for a certain number of shots. Most other guns are one ammo for one shot.

    so...me to my mom to my grandparents, to THEIR parents to THEIR parents rinse and repeat. when i hit that era i was at two papers aside each other at the top, so i had aeturnus' mother [and un-named father who was a tailor. thats all on him] and he interested me the most.
    is that the reason for this weapons name? possible...since i've seen a computer in an older game mentioning a BOS traitor who stole a prototype laser weapon. [gatling laser?] and it was never recovered.
    well thats all i can say on this, take this info as you will, but its what i think, since it matches with other tid bits from the series :P

    At 5:00, that is completely intentional.
    Your cores are still at 0 charge.
    Using your jet pack ate through your power, so the game put a fresh core into your suit. But that core was already depleted from the weapon. So it replaced it with another, already depleted core.
    One big issue with the power Armor hud is it doesn’t tell you how much power is in the spare cores, just the number. That is what happened. You loaded 4 empty cores at once.

  • @stephenhill5986
    @stephenhill5986 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually found out that it drains your fusion cores to like 8 power, and then it switches to the next fusion core and starts to drain that one. It's also fun because you can get the barrel to shoot more high damage shots but slower, and if you go into 3rd person and repeatedly zoom in and out really quickly makes it shoot way faster with way more damage

  • @bleach8888

    At 5:00 in, your Fusion Cores disappear because the Fusion Core in your Power Armor ran out.... If you notice, your Fusion Cores come back after it replaces the used Fusion Core in your Power Armor. It has nothing to do with your jet pack, but it did probably bug, and stop showing your Fusion Cores due to the gun, and how it works. But your Fusion Cores were always there, they just stopped showing for a few seconds due to lag while it was replacing the one for your Power Armor. And the gun does have unlimited ammo for me, and I have never had any problems with it.

    I never had problems with Gatling Lazer + Power Armor. I used Nuclear Physicist and I had ranks in Scrounger. I don't know if it's because of the latter perk, but I would regularly at higher levels come across stacks of fusion cores in containers. It was only in the beginning that I somewhat had to worry about fusion cores, but I could buy any extras I needed from vendors.

    Im pretty sure at 5:24 since the Aeternus (however you say it) has unlimited ammo,when it fires it will use ammo until there's no more charge in the fusion core,but keeps shooting which is why the fusion core in your jetpack instantly dissapeared(btw if he explains it after 5:24 then I haven't got there yet)

    Oxhorn when it showed 4 ammo left, it's vaguely trying to display that you started with 5, it consumed 1 fusion core to start the weapon, and tries to redisplay that you now have 4. With this weapon, you must have at least 2 to get it to register. The game files think you have 4 left by "using" a core, but you still had your 5. This gun just requires you to HAVE fusion cores to make it function properly. Bugged Weapon, but easily containable.
    As a side note, when I have used this gun, it occasionally DOES consume a core from my inventory and not when I actually fire the weapon. This only happens when I actually take it out or swapped it from a different weapon. I believe it's a bug from swapping to a different weapon, fast travelling, and going back to Aeternus at your new destination. I cannot confirm this other than from my own experiences. To be safe I always stockpile of cores, and when one DOES get consumed, I still have plenty more.

  • @DapperDemon
    @DapperDemon 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    there are a few weapons with the effect on them in base game, like the Limitless Laser Rifle. The way the Unlimited perk usually works is that it makes it so you can have all ammo loaded into the gun. It's a little buggy already, you basically reload an amount depending on how long you have the weapon equipped. The ammo isn't technically unlimited, just the clip size.
    The issues with this are probably happening because fusion cores work weirdly as ammo by themselves already, so having a gun that uses them with an effect that is sort of buggy already just confuses the hell out of the game.

  • @blaktek
    @blaktek 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The "Never Ending" mod only removes the need to reload the weapon it is applied to. The weapon will chamber ammo directly from the player's inventory, bypassing the clip/magazine and the reload animation.
    Normal ammo is binary in its usage (it is stored or shot), so the process is seamless. Fusion Cores have a charge (on a percentage gradient), making them more tricky to use with this mod.
    Aeternus is using FC charges at the normal rate (after applying the skill bonuses) ; the ammo counter becomes awkward due to the fluid nature of FC's charge.
    You have the proper mod installed to verify this : make a Never Ending .38, and observe the clip/ammo counter ; you will spend ammo (counter maxes out @ 999 rounds).

    • @oxhorn
      @oxhorn  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The only difference is that, on this gatling laser, the Never Ending effect seems to give the gun true unlimited ammo. I never ran out of fusion cores and I fired straight for 10 minutes.

  • @The_Viscount

    I know with other "never ending" weapons, it changes the weapon still uses ammo, but you never need to reload. My hypothesis: the glitches are related to the fact the Aeternus (like all gatling lasers) use fusion cores which have more than 1 shot within them as opposed to other ammo types. I also suspect the fact you have power armor equipped simultaneously complicates the matter. I think the best way to test these hypotheses would be to utilize the weapon without power armor and only 2 fresh cores in your inventory. If it works like the other "never ending" weapons, you should be able to hold down the trigger and fire 2 cores worth of shots before running dry. If it indeed is infinite ammo, it should run dry after emptying both cores.
    Regarding your comment about core rarity: If you have all levels in scrounger maxed out, you can find Fusion cores in random containers since it's classified as ammo. At this point, one of my characters has more fusion cores than they know what to do with. Over 160.

  • @Angel-gr7de
    @Angel-gr7de 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The issue is that the Neverending legendary effect does not give truly unlimited ammo. Rather, it allows you to use your ENTIRE ammo pool as your magazine. This is why a Double Barrel Shotgun with this effect is near godly, allowing it to take full advantage of it’s high damage output and high fire rate, WITHOUT RELOADING, but you will eventually run out of ammo, as the effect still draws ammo from your INVENTORY instead of a magazine. The issue with your Jetpack, is that while testing the Aeturnus, you consumed the charge of nearly all of your Fusion Cores, and the jetpack consumed the final charge, and your Power Armor frantically cycled through all of the empty cores in your inventory, until you added more, fully charged cores with scripts.

  • @davidernesto6258

    I think all the weird bugs are because this legendary effect would better be described as "unlimited clip size". I had it on a plasma rifle, with this effect, supposing you acquired no more ammo, you would have no reason to reload. I think that due to the nature of fusion cores as a "multiple for one" ammo type that the math to get them to never need to reload is probably causing glitches. I think it only appears that you never expend ammunition, but that infact you do. It appears that upon loading/reloading the gun all fusion cores are equipped into it, but are left in inventory as a stack with 0 charge, excepting the one currently being drawn from, this one show your current progress through a typical clip. I think this explains your strange power depletion event with the power armor jet-pack. That all your fusion cores are loaded into your Aeternus, including the one currently equipped by the power armor, and as soon as you try to draw from the cores your inventory updates, grabs a fusion core with zero charge, and then immediately depletes it. Supposing you wished to utilize this weapon with a power armor I would recommend exiting power armor, dropping all but a few cores, equipping and loading the Aeternus, then entering your power armor, then collecting all the extra fusion cores.

    What happened with the fusion cores expanding instantly when you pulsed the jet back is...
    The fusion core used on your power armor expired as you took off
    Then instead of replacing the fusion core the game used the number of fusion cores as the "charge" on the current fusion core

  • @trixacy
    @trixacy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So basically what I think is that Aeturnus needs two fusion cores for the ammo to register. (Confusing I know) The core needs to be put into Aeturnus to have something to shoot. But for some reason it needs another core to make it unlimited. When 600 turns to 4. The 4 represents 4 cores. It's not never consuming as it still consumes the fusion core, however you can just shoot forever. I'm assuming it's like the laser rifle Shaun gives you. "Wazer wifle"

    I found myself a never ending double barrel shotgun. The way it worked was that instead of having an ammo reserve, all shotgun shells were ready to fire, meaning that I had no reload, and I assume that that’s how it works for all weapons, but because of how Gatling lasers work with two different ammo types from loaded to on hand it probably messes with this affect.
