The art of troubleshooting - always a pleasure to watch a master at work. Thank you for taking time away from your main project to show us this repair. Regards, David
Reminds me I have to go through my 576. It has similar issues. It came up locally for a good price at the end of last year. Guess I should start out with the tantalums. Looks like you got it. Nice!
Would Like to know if there is an alternative to those Tantalumns. They are quite expensive and usualy a lot of them inside the machine. Sincerely Jerry did tell us what he placed in instead.
@@JerryWalker001 My Datron 1071 would need a few 35V ones, if I counted right, I would end up spendig around 130€ if I would replace them all at once, not including those electrolytics which are probably due also. I guess it is worth it anyway if there is no newer part which would serve the puorpose of those better.

Finally two of my favourite things together, Jerry and Tek
If Jerry doesn't want to take it apart, it must be appalling to do so.
Awesome as it's a pain in the arse when the piece of test kit you need plays silly buggers.
Ìve always and still want one of those but they are as rare as hens teeth in New Zealand, in fact Ive never seen one in the flesh.

I fitted a 16V 100uF Tantulum. They cost around £0.40.

I commonly use this method to find shorted parts again like yourself, I start with a low voltage and current.
It's always a capacitor! 😉
I'd be lost without my 576 CT
