After spending some time with the stock screen, I'm eager to see how the touring screen performs in comparison. Will it provide better wind protection and improve the overall riding experience? Excellent/valid comparison procedure ... and valuable insights, thanks. I (6'2"; long legs, shorter torso) concluded similarly on my 390 Adventure; up to ~50 mph, I prefer NO windscreen for the consistent pressure that if offers; at higher speeds, I'm having to lean into the wind so much that I can't see doing that on a long ride.
It’s not ideal but most are in a similar position, we I was riding the Himi 450 in the Himalayas it was never a problem because average speeds in the mountains were about 40 kph in the uk I ride fast so it’s more noticeable
I’ve got the touring screen and a clip on visor on top of that and that really makes a big difference and makes it bearable now on the highway whereas before it was ripping my head off

I wonder if you have considered fitting a touring screen extender? I fitted one of these onto the standard screen on my Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and found it made quite a significant difference to the amount of wind buffeting at the top of my helmet. It took me a while experimenting with different height and angle settings, but in the end was very pleased with the results. I am seriously considering replacing my Meteor with a Himalayan 450, and will try this arrangement before considering a taller touring screen. As you can get these screen extenders for only £10-20 its certainly worth a try.

After many months, delays without updates from RE, my local dealership kept me informed and advised me the Hanle Black Tubeless Himalayan had been delivered! Two days later, 8th aug, CMS Exeter had completed the on road/pdi checks for me to collect and now have the running in to complete. Until I can get 300miles then the 4000rpm limit seems so low in1st gear but with more revs it will be fine and 50mph top speed ok for now on local roads. Computer stuck at 99.9mpg so assume it is better than 100mpg at such low engine speeds using the recommended esso E95 super unleaded. Tried to raise the headlight sceen assembly but too many othe parts are linked so have reverted to lowest seat option and comfort seems fine, so will leave this all stock. Very happy with look and finish, cable routes etc looks good quality and well thought out.
Think this was a good choice and even now I can say after 150 miles "it was worth the wait!"
Fitted all the India sourced Zana accessories which have been in their delivery box for 6 months, and they all fit perfectly with an OE finish in matching black and they were one third the price of OE Royal Enfield but the parts did not include any engine protection having seen some 'broken frame' youtube reports. One good thing from my early order was the price - 7 items were £130 - 2 rear brake guards, fluid and master cylinder, headlight grill and sat nav bracket, radiator screen/guard, saddlestay assembly brackets with link arm (I have not fitted the lower 90degree supports until I get some Lomo bags to check size and fit) larger toprack plate, all metal powder coated. Another happy RE customer on a new 450

I've got Limo bags. Watch out for the right hand one touching and marking the exhaust. I now have a small mark,but the bag is ok.

Don't worry too much about the 4000 rpm limit. That's for long periods. It's more important not to lug the engine in high gear at low speed. Just vary your speed and throttle often. Town riding is ideal for this, or country lanes.
Great video, thanks! The pedant in me can’t let it slide though, that you mean to say “buffeting,” not “buffering” in regard to resisting high bandwidth wind interference.

Just picked up the himalayan 2 days ago. Was doing 80 on the highway an my god that wind just hammered me with the stock screen. You were dead right about no wind at 50 but once you go past that you just start getting pounded

I ended up cutting my screen down just above the bracket arms. Significantly less buffeting and cleaner air.
Interesting it’s definitely worth playing about to suit the individual
Hi Simon, I fitted the larger touring screen and agree with your comment an the other comments, better wind protection but not that significant, it does look much better though. I also fitted a alloy radiator guard and hand guards as well as the luggage panniers, regards to the side stand you mentioned in a previous video did you get round to fitting an after market longer stand an if so can you send me the link please.
Hi Steve, I’m glad it was helpful. As for the side stand I didn’t have much success. I had a buddy attempt many time to make adjustments but it just wasn’t right. I’m now intrigued to see what Royal Enfield will come up with if they do..
@@thatbikersimon now mate, thanks for your reply, I saw in another himmy post that the engineers have apparently realised their mistake regards the lean of the bike on the side stand and will address it so maybe a longer stand will be available soon 👍

Having ridden the Himalayan in India, have you noticed any difference with the headlight unit and lcd screen display unit being mounted lower in the uk? Looking at your earlier videos it shows the higher pilllar mount and the hole through the box plate behind the headlight. We use the lower holes, I think, in european models. The Indian headlight is mounted higher to allow the front number plate.
Still waiting for a delivery of my ordered tubeless Hanle Black but if possible I will move mine to the higher mount as I know I will use the higher seat mountings from my one short test ride 3 months ago..
Hey Dave, I’ve not realy paid attention to the mounting of it, but I shall take a look tomorrow and investigate it. Have you had a date when your getting the bike yet?
@@thatbikersimon Plenty of dates from my first order request last november, feb/march, then may-ish and june.july - I think some white tubeless are here available now - I declined that offer - still waiting for the Hanle black but rumour is a colour/finish issue on gold to tubeless rims but no RE updates which is pretty poor.. Not the fault of my local dealer as they are as annoyed as I am on the delays. I had a good look at the test bike and hopefully they use the same parts and that lower hole set is on all bikes, economies of scale etc. IF it works - maybe a video for other owners would be of help?

Update tues 6th - bike is at dealers - collecting Hanle Black Tubelss(confirmed!) thursday (or frdayi if we get the storm - don't fancy first new ride in poor weather!) Looking forward to fitting all the accessories I ordered from Zana India 6 months ago. First RE after 20years of R1200 bmw variants - still keeping the R1200RS SE.
Edit/update - Not going to move the headlight, looks like too much work, many linke brackest rather than the one part I looked at - very happy with bike, running in but have to wait or first service, end of sept, so limted to 300 miles.
Do you think the seat hight makes any difference? Was yours on the high (on the bike feel) or low (in the bike feel) setting?
I’ve only riden in the lower position with the seat. I don’t think it will make noticeable difference.
That stock screen is ridiculous really. I wouldn't even bother with it. The larger one should have come as standard in my opinion.

I have fitted the touring screen to my Himalayan 450. I consider it next to useless. I am 5’ 11” tall.
On the other hand, it wasn’t expensive so I’m not all that much upset. I still love the bike but I am now waiting for other manufacturers to develop better screens I can try.
P.s. I have also fitted the touring seat… similar opinion.

Hi Lee, As I said in the video if you was a couple of inches taller than me
which you are lol your in the line of turbulence, but yes I agree with you, it’s not that beneficial. It might work better for a satnav that’s mounted to aid with protection and stone chips, I guess we have to try these things for ourselves. 👍

Sorry to be pedantic Simon but ‘buffering’ is something that happens on computers, whereas ‘buffeting’ is what you are experiencing. Still I do like all yours reviews, straightforward and no nonsense!
WRS has some interesting windscreens for the Himmy 450. I have the genuine RE touring screen right now, but I wanna give those a try :)

On the 411 stock screen def avoid filming in high winds n 60+ felt like the gopro was gonna fly off (that was on a ride into London and was a pretty extreme day being said).. As am quite tall def hits my head...
But I do think adds a bit of stability so its a bit love/hate.
Good point! These bikes wasn’t designed for speed or though there more than capable.

I wouldn't imagine that the "Touring screen" offers much real world, protection, other than for the instruments and a sat nav perhaps. Comparing this to "Large brand" mainstream touring motorcycles, it still looks more like a Bikini than an Umbrella !

Had mine for a week still not put it on, the right screen is the greatest performance and comfort modification you can do. Though test I'll let you know how it performs compared to my GSA on a winter run to Scotland 🏴

Great news on the bike, editing wise it takes a lot of time and patience, I use a Mac so Final Cut Pro i now use but it still takes some getting your head around it.
At 5’6” the touring screen has been fine for me

Where can I order the higher touring screen also do Royal Enfield do a touring saddle as mine gives me horrendous butt ache
For me it’s on eBay because no stock in the uk as yet. I’ve not sure on a more of softer seat. I always find more hours in the saddle helps

Get an air hawk seat cushion as that solves all bum problems on any bike
That's the problem with these type of screens they move the air flow but intensify it , very often making things worse overall.
Yes this is very true but I’m riding it about the Himalayas in India the screen has come in handy with protection from water splashing
I found the stock screen to be kind of noisy compared to my scram with no screen.
This can be the case. My buddy uses a mesh screen and that seem to work for him
How does the bike go at 70 mph thinking of getting one of these
The bike performance at 70 mph Is a breeze, it’s capable of doing 100 mph but it’s not comfortable at that speed.

This is true, they don’t offer much protection but when I’ve riden in India i don’t generally ride at higher speeds, so below 50 mph it does its job
You did a run with the stock screen at 50mph, 60mph and 70mph. Why didn't you do that with the touring screen?
In all honesty, you haven't done a thorough review of the screen. I personally would not have bought it as it will not provide a quiet ride. Just some constructed criticism.
Its the structure of the front of the bike being low that is really the issue but we can't solve that by sending it back R.E. LOL
Personally I would have bought a wider screen that's just as tall on ebay and then added a givi airflow screen for maximum effect. It will change the look, but you will be far happier with sound result whilst riding at 50mph and above.

You mean why didn’t I do 70mph with the touring screen? I did 50 & 60. At 60mph with the touring sceen my test was already concluded, so it was pointless going faster especially on a already windy day.

It just seems like the test was not completed at all speeds conducted with the normal screen. Anyway....it would be good to see a test at 70mph with the touring screen as that's the speed most will be touring at. 👍🏿
@@risingphoenix1187 the difference at 60 and 70 wasn’t different it was all about where the buffering was for me. I guess it depends on what type of riding you do. I personally don’t sit at 70 on this bike if I can help it.

These little sreens are really just to keep dead flies off the clocks. I've fitted taller screens to other bikes and just moved the problem. People have the wrong idea about buffeting. Fitting a wider screen is much more effective than a slim tall one. Failing that, buy a car.
lol yes the screen are a bit of a waste of time, but most people can live with it 👍

Because I’m 5’ 11” but I have a 34 inch inside leg!

32 inside for me, I think for most it would be a case of buy one and try it and if you don’t like it you could probably return it for a refund.
