One lesson I have learned is to never stop being creative. Knitting, baking, sewing, making something (anything) has helped me to get through difficult times, it is relaxing and incredibly satisfying.
Getting rid of social media was the #1 best way to get me onto a simpler trajectory. It is such a huge energy and time suck, even for people like me who don’t use it heavily. My life feels so much happier and more peaceful now. Love your videos!
I stopped taking several pictures in my trips years ago. I found out I was so focused in the right angle, the right spot, the right time for a picture that I wasn't enjoying the moment. Instead of relaxing and enjoying my time and participating in activities I was stressed trying to take the perfect picture, it was more like a job than a vacation.
I agree, I found a few candid shots of people was great and i pick up some postcards of the important things. Win for me because the cards are much better pictures and not expensive, easy to store. I have a cute multicard frame and update with new pics from new trips or favorite old ones. Minimal space, good memories and stress free.
I had thrown birthday and anniversary parties for last 7 years. The stress was immense and I personally never able to enjoy. And this year I found that, as I am not able to organise any thing, due to this pandemic, no one called me. Only my parents and my partner was there to wish me. This Covid has shown the real colors of many people to us.
Heart of Kentucky. Hi Vera. It's so good to hear from you. I liked what you said about multi tasking, not working. While it is not your thing to set a lot of goals for the future, I'm planning to get together goals for five years because it will be a new decade for me. I hope your mother is doing well, and I look forward to your next video. Katie.
Casey Marvin thanks so much for your kind words. I feel the same as you said. I wish you all the very best and good luck. May God give you all the strength and positivity to overcome this situation. Loads of love to you dear 💝💝💝💝
I too did the same thing all of the time. It gets old being the one hosting and running around doing it all only to be exhausted by the time everyone arrives. Do only what serves you and makes you happy. I'm actually happier my friend circle is less now. I just want to do my yoga and eat good healthy food and focus on me for a change. You only get one go around in life. Do only what brings you joy! Sorry your so called friends did not call. it's time for new friends who are more thoughtful! Hugs
This is why I never got into doing these things even though I'm friendly and have several children. I think I have always intuitively suspected this outcome.
My last birthday party was 2 years ago on my 21st. I don’t drink so people called me boring for not going out, but my friends and I had a blast making Bob Ross paintings instead. Rather than stressing myself out by going drinking, I have a lasting good memory and a pretty painting that’s still hanging in my house :)
That is one of the most awesome birthday party ideas I have ever encountered! Wondering, if I can convince my friends to paint with me, this year. (In case we will be able to meet in summer of course😅)
I took a trip last year to Europe; My first international trip. I had stressed myself so much over the clothes, shoes etc. that I was so so stressed and made my life so hectic. The trip was short and there was a lot to visit , so that got hectic too. So I have decided not to ever again fret over the clothes I would wear, I would just carry a few pairs ans be relaxed before the trip.
Working on decluttering and organizing for a simpler life. I just donated 90% of my scrapbooking stuff. Felt so good, I only started one book. I'll finish that since it's about my beloved cats. Love all your advice, you're right on. Take care.
Margarete Raab I love that! I did just that last spring- I realized I was just buying craft and hobby stuff and never DOING any of the craft and hobby stuff..... and feeling guilty about. What a load off!
I chose at an early age to let things go that didn't "feel" good to me, seeing all the have to's surrounding me. Love to see your simplifying. Makes life worth it and precious. You're more alert to all surrounding you. More loved.
This week I’m gonna try to say no to a night out with an old group of girlfriends. All they do is gossip, and I find no fun and no inspiration in seeing them. I should say it like Samantha would (SATC) “I love you, but I love me more”
@@elenascarmagnan1713 Great job! This was something so difficult to stop doing for me. I like meaninful conversations more, but some people prefer chit chatchat or even gossip. If you continue saying no to things that not fit you, it can feel amazingly freeing and refreshing!
After all is said and done......life is simple. I don’t understand why many people insist on making it difficult. I’ve never been on social media and never will. I believe it cheapens life. I also don’t do a lot of things just because everyone is doing something. It’s very important to think for yourself......and also be aware of your thoughts
@@ourminimalfamily3908 I feel the same way. Downsize two years ago and I've never been happier and more content in my life. Cut out all the BS. Kind regards from Ireland Kate. 👱♀️💕
Um. TH-cam might be considered social media. You can add comment, as you can on Facebook or Twitter and get a response. Life is very complex and full of problems. That is why we may wish to minimalize, declutter and to find a simple more meaningful way.
I recently discovered your channel and I love your message. I have been yearning for the simpler times of my youth in the 1970’s when we did not have clutter and excess stuff. We did not have the go go go life back then. I want to make my house feel like the simpler times of past decades. Thank you!
1. Weekly commitments 2.throwing (bday) parties 3. Agreeing to go to things that I don’t enjoy 4. Social media 5. Drive (own a car) 6. Creating (recipes) scrapbooks 7. Shopping on trips 8. Worrying about my looks on trips/vacations 9. Making exercise schedules 10. New Year’s resolutions or long list of goals
I always love when you mention that you don’t have a car and talk about it in a positive light. I live in the states and don’t have a car and people look at me like I’m an alien sometimes but, most of the time, I do prefer not having to deal with a car. I also love intuitive exercise! I make a point to move my body in some way everyday but having it be whatever exercise I want to do that day makes me actually want to do my exercise.
People would be a lot happier if they took on board your way of life. It keeps stress to a minimum and so results in better health. Especially for introverts 🦉
Hi again! Just had another idea for a future topic. I think The hidden benefits of minimalism" would be a really good one. A subject to cover could be on the utter joy of generosity. Yes, by all means sell some of your unwanted items but giving a proportion away is great for both you & the recipient. Just a small example - yesterday I took a large blanket with the intention of donating it to a charity shop. However when I got there they were no longer taking donations. While I was there a lady came in and asked the assistant if they were selling any dog blankets but they did not have any. I went over & gave the lady the blanket I had brought with me. It was a very gratifying coincidence!
I'm with you - if I don't enjoy something I usually won't do it. I don't entertain, I don't have a lot of commitments that I dread. I don't have a lot of art on my walls because they have to be dusted. In fact if I think about buying something it has to have a useful necessary purpose, if it has to be dusted and has no purpose - I don't buy it
I feel automatically calm while listening to you. I love your content so so much and I feel like more people need to adopt this kind of lifestyle. Truly life changing. =)
Hello lovely. Firstly I would like to thank you for what you do. I have really benefited from your kind advice. Secondly I would like to suggest a future topic for a video. I think that many people think that minimalism is only for people that want to go all in and change of get rid of everything. I myself am not a minimalist but I have found so many topics you have covered to be helpful just by applying your advice to suit me. Maybe a video entitled " small changes, big results" or " a little minimalism for everyone" might encourage those who dismiss the whole idea out of hand without understanding that it can also be applied in a measured way. You are such a lovely person & I wish you continued happiness and success.
I always enjoy your videos! I am an internet grandma too and it doesn’t bother me one bit! I just want to say you are “Golden”and always a ray of ☀️. I am grateful for your videos. Take care my friend! Have a nice week!❤️🙏🏻
Souvenir and holiday shopping: On my holiday to India (it was on my wish list for 18 years before I made the time to go for a month) I bought a lot of stuff including backpacking a silk Rajasthani rug. The rug spent 16 years in the master bedroom, 12 years rolled up and is now in the lounge. I also a lot of inexpensive clothes, pictures (made the frames back home) and lamps and gave away most to family and friends. On my return trip I spent less time visiting every temple and ancient monument in each town and sometimes just took "the time to stand and stare". I did buy more stuff: - three packs of post cards but send one set off as we don't really get letters in the post anymore from family and friends - a fridge magnet - one jade stone that a friend request me to get - a packet of Kashmiri tea to take home - a replacement chain as the one I bought 29 years previously I left in a hotel room The tea was very expensive but the rest added up to very little. Not so good for the local economy but perhaps better for me.
I love the point you make about not worrying about looking nice in photos on vacation! I feel like I have stopped worrying about this too. Vacations are all about the experience, not about looking good in photos 🤣
I find New Year's resolutions a way to reflect and think about what would make me happy in the coming year. Not what I should or ought to do, but what I want to do. This year I want to grow a cutting garden. Flowers make me happy.
Same here Vera , 😅 I don't know how to use + I don't enjoy social media except TH-cam 😊 it's enough for me , & it's a fourth year for me to no longer social media person 🤣
Thank you so much for this. I am happy you have changed your once-a-week upload schedule. I never even know what day of the week something was uploaded. I watch your videos haphazardly and have a big backlog, since I have recently discovered your channel. I bet there are many more just like me. I'm taking many pearls of wisdom from you Vera! Many thanks indeed.
You are the best on you tube Vera! That’s why you have such a great community of followers. I agree 💯 percent with this list. Unfortunately I’m not able to get rid of my car. I gave up parties years ago for the same reason and celebrate like you with a dinner out somewhere. Hope you have a great week. ☺️
It is more valuable for me to see you take care of yourself, because you are an inspiration to me! So, go ahead and take care in the best way for yourself 🤗 There is plenty of material to go over again from previous videos, to keep me inspired and learning! Love to you Vera.
For the first time in probably decades, I made resolutions that I've been able to keep. It feels really good that I was able to achieve them!! I like all your videos, so whatever you post I'm sure I'll enjoy!
My dear, YOU are the best! I found your channel recently, and I think it’s because I looked up something on highly sensitive people. I love watching your videos, or letting them play in the background if I’ve had a long day because your voice is soothing. Thank you so much for sharing your insights. I’m (finally) learning to be my most authentic self, and that self is sensitive.
I refuse to have any commitments. Unless it is a medical appointment, paying Bill's and legal commitments. I have also stopped the points you mentioned. Prefer making spontaneous arrangements. If people do not like it, then feel it is their problem. Nice video. Thanks Vera.
Thankyou Vera, you are part of a inspiration to me to change my life, a project in this difficult time. I have managed to declutter about 60% of what i own, reduce my consumption of packaging and non perishables, getting debts under control. Tried no buy for non essentials, struggled so now on low buy. Thankyou for hosting this lifestyle and being open to guide us all.
Coming across your channel is one of the best things that happened to me this year. A lot of changing and accepting is going on. For example: I never really liked celebrating my birthday with big parties or going to clubs often, but I always felt a bit guilty about it, God knows why. With your videos I've been learning it's ok to not enjoy what I don't enjoy and, of course, enjoy what I do enjoy. It's a life changing sensation. Thank you!
Thank you Vera. By the way, I prefer the view I see you sitting on sofa than standing in front of that plant. Somehow that spot always gives me a house chore feeling. Seeing you sitting on sofa is much more relaxing.
Being in lockdown for the better part of March and April has really slowed down the pace of life for many people, which is how I think it should be. I really enjoyed slowing down, not being able to really go anywhere except out in nature, and find creative ways to fill the days. The one rule I now live by is actually something you once said in a video: “it is okay to say yes to something as long as you’re not saying no to yourself”. Apart from work of course, I rarely plan things for the week(s) to come. I like to spend my days off as I see fit on that particular day. I am not a minimalist but I absolutely love leading a simple life, I’m sure most INFJ/HSP’s can relate. Thank you for another insightful and relatable video. I am happy to hear you’re taking the time you need. Happy weekend! 😊🍁🌻
Too many people worry about what other people think! We all need to do what is right for us as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. We don't use social media aside from texting with the kids and friends and sometimes we get asked why we don't. You've mentioned a lot of reasons why not and we absolutely agree with you. I'm okay being an "internet grandma" for some things ( I actually am a grandma! lol) and I do work online though. So happy you are putting your health first!
I know a number of octogenarians who spent many hours on the internet but the majority of people of any age have a mixed level of understanding or all the issues of signing up, fake news and too many assuming "the computer says" when anyone and their pet cat can post an article with out validation. Many of these things come and go. Remember MySpace? and FriendsReunited? Twitter looked interesting but the effort to write anything in under 142 characters took more time than I was willing to spend and so I stopped posting. We pick what is useful and drop or ignore what isn't.
Let me make resume in our language for Indonesian viewer. 1. Komitmen mingguan 2. PESTA 3. Diajak sesuatu padahal ga suka 4. SOSIAL MEDIA 5. NYETIR (punya mobil) 6. Buku resep 7. BELANJA WAKTU TRAVELING 8. Khawatirin penampilan waktu traveling 9. Bikin jadwal latihan 10. RESOLUSI/BIKIN GOAL So inspiring, thanks.
So happy to hear you're super clear about what's good for you, like changing your schedule. My formula for packing when I visit family and friends: Instead of packing all my favorite things and not wearing most of them, I pack three outfits for going out and three outfits for wearing around the house. People have wash machines so it works. I learned the hard way by packing a huge suitcase for a three-day beach trip filled with my favorite clothes, jewelry, etc. The suitcase was lost, so I lost everything I liked best.
Love your videos! I appreciate the way you have minimalized your vacation activities. I do make New Years' resolutions each year and I share them with my grandchildren. That's what motivates me to make them. I do use my resolutions as a goal and try to stay in touch with the grandchildren to see how they are following through on their resolution keeping as well. Thank you for asking!
I totally get not wanting to be on a schedule. I am the same way! No worries, I will be watching for your videos whenever you feel like making them. I really enjoy listening to your channel!
Glad you're making your channel work for you and giving yourself room to grow creatively. So many youtubers are too strict with themselves and then get burnt out which is so unfortunate. Also, I'll definitely be getting one of those wallpapers, so cute!!
So good that you are listening to your inner self, and adapting to making your videos at times when you can balance what is happening in your life. All of us here I am sure are happy that you are looking after you. I catch your videos whenever I feel inclined, and love catching up a few in a row when i can relax and soak up your inspirational words. For me my 60th next year- no party, despite Covid , not even wanting a small gathering , have booked days away at a hippy beachside town Byron Bay in NSW, wanting to explore and enjoy experiences with hubby. I think we have relied on the expectations of others when it comes to 'special' occasions. I'm Not doing that any more. So good to hear you affirm my choices these days. Oh, i used to do your suitcase thing, filling it with purchases. Travelling light, the way to go 😊
I don't set New Years resolutions, I make goals as I see a need. I see it more as new moments rather than waiting for a new year to start, or forgetting them before the year is up.
Another great video, Vera! I especially resonate with the luggage thing. When my husband and I visited Japan, we backpacked for three weeks. Everything we took-and everything we brought back-had to fit into a single backpack each. That backpack also fit into carry-on luggage, which was amazing because we didn't have to hang around for our bags at the carousel after an 11 hour flight. Priceless!
Hi, Vera and friends! Great video. So many of these points are ones I have figured out with time. I especially like your point about New Years Resolutions. I have started using that moment to appreciate my life, family, and environment rather than focusing on all the things I want to do or accomplish- which to me becomes a form of self-criticism. Yes, I establish goals for myself, but I don't wait until New Years. Every day is a fresh start. Also, I wanted to say that I have your quote in my planner: Start where you are, Use what you have, and Do what you can! I read it every day! Hope you are well! Lots of love! 🦋🦋🦋
Thank you so much Thea! And yes I 100% agree about the New Year's resolutions. So happy you enjoy that quote :) I think I will use it in my 2021 bujo as well, because I need to remind myself of it often haha. Have a lovely rest of your weekend and take care!
@@SimpleHappyZen I hope you have a restful weekend too! By the way, I am always interested in learning new languages, and last year I started on Mandarin but stopped because.... 2020.... and when I started watching your video, I was inspired to start back up. Just wanted to share that with you!
That's a really good point about the upload schedule. I'd never thought about this before, but having to upload a video every single week is very un-minimalist!
Hi Vera! I don't do any New Year's resolutions any more either! They would always stress me out! I just work on simplifying my life and being healthy & happy :-) I like that you aren't on your Saturday schedule any more. It will be a nice surprise for us when we get your notification that you have posted a new video! There is a positive side to everything :-)
I love watching your videos, and while I know you do not personally know any of us, I feel like you are a true friend to us all. I love that watching your videos I can watch your style transform, I can see you grow as a person, and you are helping me to grow into the person I want to be. I know that your minimalism videos get the most likes, and are what the vast majority of people want to see, but I would like to request more on simple and intentional living. How do you just accept the bad days, and let the emotions come and go without feeding them or trying to change them because we have all been taught from as early as we can remember to try and MAKE a bad day into a good one, or to do something to change our mood if we are sad or angry. What do you do when you are feeling lonely, and there is no one to spend some time with, or when you feel bad because there is work to do, and you know if you don't do it, it isn't going to get done, but you just can't? Either because of mental state, or an injury, or you're just too tired? How do you handle it when you look around, and instead of seeing all the progress you have made towards the lifestyle you are trying to achieve, all you see is everything that still needs to be done, or the bad habits that haven't changed yet? It's things like this that I keep stumbling on, and I personally have a very hard time not becoming discouraged. My fiance and my children are all very supportive, but the children are just that, children, and Mike tries very hard, but he is such a resilient person that he has a very hard time understanding how anyone can not be, very few people have the resilience and fortitude that Mike does, and his frustration comes through even though he tries not to let it.
I ran across your channel about a week ago and have really enjoyed the few videos I've seen. The effort and authenticity you put into your work is very refreshing. The practical tips you give on minimalism, simplifying, sustainability, and veganism are very helpful. Thanks for the advice. I hope you have a great day!
Not host parties at home -- such a challenging idea, but it makes total sense now that you said it. Especially after this pandemic year, when I can see how much celebrating events in a smaller way is actually much more fun.
First 🎉🎉🎉Awsome video Vera please keep doing what you do just the way you are moved too. I love it that you know exactly what works for you and it's encouraging to hear your choices you look amazing as always take care of yourself big hugxx.
About multi tasking... I agree, it doesn't work. About new year resolutions... I always feel like I must do them (not want but must) but I never stick to them. They're usually a) too many or b) too strict or c) just way out of what I can actually manage. So if you ever make a video about this topic, I'd love to see it. About the video schedule, you do what you feel best. I always look forward to getting videos on Saturdays but I don't always get to watch them then. Sometimes it's a few days or a week later. And I love watching videos again and again because I feel like I learn something new each time. So for my part, don't feel guilty if you need to change something in your schedule :) The last thing I wanted to say is that I really appreciate what you do and for sharing tips and experience. I have come to see that I really, really like minimalism (not the "live-out-of-your-backpack" kind but the cozy kind) and it gives me such peace of mind as a HiSePerson. I have a long way to go yet but every step helps. Thank you, thank, thank you :)
Yes! Birthdays are so stressful! I just have a nice day with my family and one or two friends and maybe go out for dinner. The only birthday parties I have are for my daughter, also stressful, but worth it!
Hi Vera, YOU ARE THE BEST! I think we are so much alike, everything you said is how I feel, I also don’t like weekly commitments, I live in a 55 over community but never joined any of the clubs, because I don’t care to have to be somewhere on a particular day. You did make me laugh about the frizzy hair, that was me too, I never enjoyed vacations as silly as it sounds because of my curly hair, if I am by the water, or if it’s hot and humid, it would ruin the day for me, but during the COVID virus, I made a life change, I stopped blow drying my hair straight and just wear it curly, funny thing, It doesn’t frizz as much wearing it naturally curly, this has been life changing for me, no more putting heat on my hair, has been liberating. I also always regret making plans, they sound like fun until that evening you have to get dressed to go out, when all I want to do is get comfy, and make a cup of tea... I guess I am just a introvert/extrovert.... but lean toward being Introvert. Love being with my family always, that’s when I am most happy Hope you had a nice week off xo
Haha yes I can relate :) Though I also like to make plans with friends in advance because otherwise I can easily become a bit of a recluse haha, so that forces me to go and then I always end up having a great time
I love your tips. New year resolutions feel really odd to me. In the northern hemisphere it’s so odd to begin a new energetic period in the depths of winter. I feel spring is a much better time to start new endeavours.
First of all, I am so happy to have found this video, because it’s not a new one, and as I have just found this channel, even subscribing it now, I wouldn’t receive a notification for it, of course😊😄, and this video was sooooo important to me. I don’t drive. I don’t like to drive. I took my driver’s license because “everyone” does it, but I never felt any motivation to do it. I tried to force myself to drive (I didn’t buy a car, I drove my mother’s car), but I felt stressed, anxious and depressed because I felt stressed and anxious!!! At a certain point, I gave up and everyone still thinks that I should drive, because everybody does it. And listening to you, I feel so relieved to know that there is at least one person who has no problems in sharing to the world that she doesn’t drive or own a car! I love to walk to places or I use public transportation (in Portugal bikes are not popular... and I wouldn’t ride a bike either 😁). Finally, my New Year’s resolution is always the same: don’t do any New Year’s resolution, because you will feel frustrated and depressed if you can’t achieve them. Just do your best. Love from Portugal 💚♥️💙❤️💛🖤💜💗🧡
I tend to set my goals instinctively not just resolutions. Once I accomplish a goal I keep setting them year round. I like the idea of setting a goal to take a week off. Not sure I've ever tried that. Thanks, Vera
Hi Vera, I love this video. Inspired me to think about the things I stopped doing over the years. For example I reduced my makeup to only a lipstick for special occasions 🙂 Would love to see a video about goals and resolutions. I don’t make New Years resolutions anymore and don’t have much goals in general. When I want to change something, I just start today 🙂
Another super helpful, affirming and lovely video from you, Vera ! I applaud you once again for slowing down ... and not putting out Saturday videos religiously. You are dedicated to your work and to creating beautiful content ! And that requires changing things up as you go ! This is a very wise choice ! Pace yourself , create breathing room, reduce pressure and let the joy & inspiration flow ! Cheers to you, Vera !
Thank you for your helpful video 😊 I didn't enjoyed my birthday party n other parties too. It stressed out me a lot and I didn't notice it. I thought that it's something necessary that I suppose to do . You took us to the next level of simple living. ❤️❤️
Thank you Vera, for all videos. It helps me a lot. I am at the begining on my way as a minimalist, anyway your advices are very workable for me and I love the way you speak about it. You are the best!😊
I hope you do a video about making resolutions and setting goals. I have changed my process -- I don't do a big list for the whole year. Instead, I have weekly lists of things I want to get done. And if they don't I'm okay with that. I think your list of ten things is excellent -- I share many of them. It's fine that you want your schedule to be more flexible -- you are very good at taking care of yourself and that is inspiring.
Loving these tips! About New Year's resolutions, I prefer to set a really loose rule, such as "Try to move more!" and if I make it happen, I will be happy, and if not, I will not be sad :) Hope to see the video on this topic in future!
Thank you for very usefull video, especially for me this time. I find in many items you were talking about. I am intuitive person in many actions and as soon as I decided to follow any plan for exercising or something similar, I start to hate this activity and finish to do it.
I subscribed today because you have such a lovely, calming personality and some good advice. I decluttered a lot of items out of my home and garden, I know some people were delighted with these items, toys, clothes etc. Thank you for being you!! Best wishes from Ireland.
I used to have the same issue with a summer bday and no one coming to my party as a child bc they were on vacation. Now that I am an adult, I like having a bday in the middle of summer bc it is relaxing. Vera, you are still celebrating "you" on your bday even if you just go to dinner :) Simple fun things like simply going to do an activity or out to a meal is a super fun and rewarding bday present! I also agree to saying "no" or "no thank you" to things. We need to be true to ourselves and do things with an honest heart
Quality over quantity I find is best in my life. Looking forward to your next video; whenever it’s ready 😊. I love listening to your videos early in the morning on my walk through Roma Street Parklands; being surrounded by a variety of plants (we live in the city too; Brisbane Australia)...when I choose to go for a walk rather than go to Bootcamp or the gym. I use the walk as my reflection and ‘life by design’ building time. Your videos give me inspiration on how my partner and I can build a more productive and wholesome life. 🙏🏻
Thank you for your inspiring video's. I really appreciate your honesty and attention to detail. Keep up the great work. Kind regards from Ireland Kate. 👱♀️💕
Spontaneity is more important to me than "goals" ... sure, getting food is about as far as my "goal" goes. And yes if I want to open another store front, I will have to become That person again of scheduler. And that's okay.
As far as New Year's resolutions, I have made one, actually waited til Jan. 2, 2020, and that was to eat 1,000 calories and 100 carbs daily for one year because I wanted to get into the habit of healthy eating while losing weight. It's Dec. 6, 2020 and I have just over 2 weeks left, and I've lost 58 pounds. It was the right time and I was in the right frame of mind to do this. It was a time resolution rather than a weight loss goal, and it worked for me. My resolution for 2021 is to have a low-buy year! One resolution at a time, for a time, works for me.
You are so inspirational. For me, I don’t like obligations that stress me out. Don’t get me wrong - I am the most dependable and loyal person you could ever I know and I keep my promises but I have learned not to obligate myself to anything my heart is not fully in. Just say no is my motto.
These are interesting things! I recently started avoiding social media if they're not for work and I would love to not use the car but I need it to go to work I hope one day I'll find a job that doesn't need it or I can go with public transport. New years resolution always caused me lot of stress because that period of the year I started thinking how many of my last year resolution I didn't accomplish. So I prefer to commit to things I want in my life but not in a definite time of the year 😅
I have had several jobs that meant using the trains and public transport and I had one cold after the other for much of the year. At least travelling ny car reduced that to the occasional illness although one office had the norovirus spread to everyone in a few day. Look forward to retirement or working mostly from home - no flu, and no community acquired illness - just those from old age ...
🌷 Happy Friday, thanks for watching!

I just love this one Vera..
One lesson I have learned is to never stop being creative. Knitting, baking, sewing, making something (anything) has helped me to get through difficult times, it is relaxing and incredibly satisfying.
I would MUCH rather spend all of my time experimenting with new things in my garden
@@margaretwhitmer2715 experimenting with a garden is still creativity.
I would say never stop doing hobbies you love.
I now only take photos of the really beautiful things. I'm not making a documentary of my trip! The photos just became a burden.
Casey Marvin thanks so much dear 😊😊 this means a lot
Oh I love that! :D
That is one of the most awesome birthday party ideas I have ever encountered! Wondering, if I can convince my friends to paint with me, this year. (In case we will be able to meet in summer of course😅)
People who have to drink to have a good time have a real problem. Kudos to you for what you did instead.
Take care.
Thanks for sharing Margarete! Wow, congrats on the progress you've made with decluttering, must feel amazing :)
I should say it like Samantha would (SATC) “I love you, but I love me more”
I love it! :) Thanks for sharing
@@SimpleHappyZen I DID IT!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Tom 🤗☕
Love this 👍😁

Um. TH-cam might be considered social media. You can add comment, as you can on Facebook or Twitter and get a response.
Life is very complex and full of problems. That is why we may wish to minimalize, declutter and to find a simple more meaningful way.
Well said!!!
I recently discovered your channel and I love your message. I have been yearning for the simpler times of my youth in the 1970’s when we did not have clutter and excess stuff. We did not have the go go go life back then. I want to make my house feel like the simpler times of past decades. Thank you!
Thank you Valerie and welcome to the channel! :) Have a lovely day
Oh I so agree. We sure didn't have excess. There was no decluttering. We had all we needed. Never craved more. My growing up was simply lovely.
Valerie I was 18 in 1970 and had no clutter ever in the 70s 80s 90s. I don't know what has happened as I defo have clutter now.!!
Flexibility and freedom in doing what we love is the foundation of true joy. Happy to see you again Vera. Keep inspiring your ways
Thank you so much Verena, I appreciate it! 🤗
1. Weekly commitments
2.throwing (bday) parties
3. Agreeing to go to things that I don’t enjoy
4. Social media
5. Drive (own a car)
6. Creating (recipes) scrapbooks
7. Shopping on trips
8. Worrying about my looks on trips/vacations
9. Making exercise schedules
Haha yes I completely know what you mean about how people look at you when you say you don't own a car :D
Walking to get grocery and seeing others who walk to get theirs make my day!
People would be a lot happier if they took on board your way of life. It keeps stress to a minimum and so results in better health. Especially for introverts 🦉
It's so comforting to know that I am not the only internet grandma, lol. I feel like I am stuck in the 90's and I like the simplicity of it. Lol
Hahaha internet grandma's unite
Such a great idea, thank you! :) And a lovely example too :)
I'm with you - if I don't enjoy something I usually won't do it. I don't entertain, I don't have a lot of commitments that I dread. I don't have a lot of art on my walls because they have to be dusted. In fact if I think about buying something it has to have a useful necessary purpose, if it has to be dusted and has no purpose - I don't buy it
Filling a suitcase and cramming
things in. Thank goodness some
of us have discovered minimalism.
What a blessing it is to many of
us.
Hahaha yes! :)
I feel automatically calm while listening to you. I love your content so so much and I feel like more people need to adopt this kind of lifestyle. Truly life changing. =)
Thanks so much for your kind comment! :) Have a great day
Hello lovely.
Again thanks for this great tip! :)
The most inspiring person on TH-cam!
Aww thank you 💕
For now
I always enjoy your videos! I am an internet grandma too and it doesn’t bother me one bit! I just want to say you are “Golden”and always a ray of ☀️. I am grateful for your videos. Take care my friend! Have a nice week!❤️🙏🏻
Aw thank you so much! :) You have a nice week too Lucy
I did buy more stuff:
- three packs of post cards but send one set off as we don't really get letters in the post anymore from family and friends
- a fridge magnet
- one jade stone that a friend request me to get
- a packet of Kashmiri tea to take home
- a replacement chain as the one I bought 29 years previously I left in a hotel room
The tea was very expensive but the rest added up to very little.
Not so good for the local economy but perhaps better for me.
I love the point you make about not worrying about looking nice in photos on vacation! I feel like I have stopped worrying about this too. Vacations are all about the experience, not about looking good in photos 🤣
Exactly :)
This is why Social Media is so problematic....the obsession of perfection and focusing so much on the outside of a person.
I find New Year's resolutions a way to reflect and think about what would make me happy in the coming year. Not what I should or ought to do, but what I want to do. This year I want to grow a cutting garden. Flowers make me happy.
That's so lovely :) Enjoy!

Aw thank you!! 🤗💕
Wow you're doing amazing, congrats on all the progress you've already made and good luck with the rest of your journey! 🤗🌷 Take care
I am so glad you are willing and brave to say “No” to something. Sometimes, we just say Yes bec it seems logical and easy.
Thank you!
Wow I'm so happy my videos have been helpful for you Aline! 🤗🌷💕
Thank you Vera. By the way, I prefer the view I see you sitting on sofa than standing in front of that plant. Somehow that spot always gives me a house chore feeling. Seeing you sitting on sofa is much more relaxing.
Thank you Qian and thanks for your feedback :)
Hi Vera! Can you do more videos about being a hightly sensitive person? I love your videos about that topic 🤗 🌹
Thanks so much for sharing, loved reading your comment :) Have a great rest of your weekend
I can’t figure out why we have so many communication venues? Call, text or email me isn’t enough?
Let me make resume in our language for Indonesian viewer.
1. Komitmen mingguan
2. PESTA
3. Diajak sesuatu padahal ga suka
4. SOSIAL MEDIA
5. NYETIR (punya mobil)
6. Buku resep

Great advice! Wow the suitcase getting lost, that must've sucked....
Breathing room is self care. Good for you! Another delightful video. Ty 🤗
I totally get not wanting to be on a schedule. I am the same way! No worries, I will be watching for your videos whenever you feel like making them. I really enjoy listening to your channel!
Thank you so much, that's nice to hear :) It feels like the right decision
Glad you're making your channel work for you and giving yourself room to grow creatively. So many youtubers are too strict with themselves and then get burnt out which is so unfortunate. Also, I'll definitely be getting one of those wallpapers, so cute!!
Thanks so much Russel, I appreciate that :) And enjoy your wallpapers!

Thanks so much for your sweet comment Linda! :) Have fun at your 60th!!
I don't set New Years resolutions, I make goals as I see a need. I see it more as new moments rather than waiting for a new year to start, or forgetting them before the year is up.

humour.
Hahaha thank you 😄
Another great video, Vera! Priceless!
Wow that must have been an amazing trip!!!
@@SimpleHappyZen It was indeed! I wrote a journal every day and took more than 800 pictures. Far more precious than any physical souvenir. :)

Thanks for sharing Shehnaz :)

Thank you so much Amy, I appreciate that! :) Yes I also like how things will be a bit more spontaneous this way
I love watching your videos, and while I know you do not personally know any of us, I feel like you are a true friend to us all.
Everyone here appreciates you, and whenever you want to post a video you post it when your ready. It’s not worth the stress.
Thank you Cheryl, that means a lot 🤗💕
I ran across your channel about a week ago and have really enjoyed the few videos I've seen. The effort and authenticity you put into your work is very refreshing. The practical tips you give on minimalism, simplifying, sustainability, and veganism are very helpful. Thanks for the advice.

@@SimpleHappyZen Thank you! Appreciate it!
Yeah! 🤗
Thank you so much. I needed this validation of how I feel about these very things.
So for my part, don't feel guilty if you need to change something in your schedule :)
The last thing I wanted to say is that I really appreciate what you do and for sharing tips and experience.
Got rid of my car, too! And I'm always anxious whenever I put on a party face... Great video as always, Vera!
Thanks Bernadette! :) Enjoy your week!
I’m so excited for you! Post when you feel like you’re ready to post! I love your videos!! I can’t wait to see what you come up with 💗
Hi Vera, YOU ARE THE BEST!
Love being with my family always, that’s when I am most happy
Hope you had a nice week off xo
Haha yes I can relate :) Though I also like to make plans with friends in advance because otherwise I can easily become a bit of a recluse haha, so that forces me to go and then I always end up having a great time
Simple Happy Zen I always end up having fun too, it’s just getting me there lol
I love your tips. New year resolutions feel really odd to me. In the northern hemisphere it’s so odd to begin a new energetic period in the depths of winter. I feel spring is a much better time to start new endeavours.
Yes it really feels like that for me too! :)
Thank you, dear Vera!! Wonderful tips, as always!
Thank you so much Gabriela :)
Love what you shared, so happy you enjoyed this video Alexandra!! :)
I tend to set my goals instinctively not just resolutions. Once I accomplish a goal I keep setting them year round. I like the idea of setting a goal to take a week off. Not sure I've ever tried that. Thanks, Vera
Yes that's very similar to how I do it :) Try the week off every 3 months if you can, it works wonderfully :)
Lots of love from India 🇮🇳
Watching your video always gives me so much positivity and calmness Thanks a lot 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Vera, I love this video. Inspired me to think about the things I stopped doing over the years. For example I reduced my makeup to only a lipstick for special occasions 🙂
Would love to see a video about goals and resolutions. I don’t make New Years resolutions anymore and don’t have much goals in general. When I want to change something, I just start today 🙂
Thank you so much Julia! :) Enjoy your weekend
Aw thank you, I really appreciate that :) Have a nice day today!
social media is fine aslong as your friend list are non toxic ,close family and friends
Thank you for your helpful video 😊
I didn't enjoyed my birthday party n other parties too.
Thank you so much, I'm so happy to hear that :) Good luck on your minimalism journey!
I must say I really love your videos. You are speaking so clearly and you always smile 😊. I am a fan
Thank you so much, that's so sweet :)
わたしもニューイヤーレゾリューションは達成できたことがないから好きではないです。
毎週土曜日の投稿を楽しみにしてましたが、あなたのペースで良いと思います!次回も楽しみにしてます。

Thank you so much! Have a happy Friday!
Hi Vera totally understand about the deadline on videos? Creativity can’t be rushed take it easy you deserve it 🧘♀️
Thank you so much Therese, that means a lot 🤗💕
Surprised.... . It's Friday.... Nice to hear. Soothing music behind video.. just enjoy Vera
Thank you! Glad you like the music, I tried something different in this video :)
Great tips Vera. I have to learn to say "no" more often as I am doing so much and never get a thank you for it. I have to get tough!! 😣
Saying no when you need to, is important :) You can do it!
Yes on appearances on vacations! We travel to eat awesome food and explore 🙃.
Loving these tips! About New Year's resolutions, I prefer to set a really loose rule, such as "Try to move more!" and if I make it happen, I will be happy, and if not, I will not be sad :) Hope to see the video on this topic in future!
I loved the part about turning a hobby into a chore. That’s me!
Haha so silly :) But we do it
Thank you for very usefull video, especially for me this time. I find in many items you were talking about. I am intuitive person in many actions and as soon as I decided to follow any plan for exercising or something similar, I start to hate this activity and finish to do it.
You are just lovely and very spot on!! Thank you from Jean🌺🇺🇸
Thank you so much Jean, that's so kind of you to say :) Have a lovely day!
Yeah, I would love to hear your insights on goalsetting.
I subscribed today because you have such a lovely, calming personality and some good advice. I decluttered a lot of items out of my home and garden, I know some people were delighted with these items, toys, clothes etc. Thank you for being you!! Best wishes from Ireland.
Thank you so much for subscribing Mary, have a lovely day today!
Wow thank you so much 🤗
Thank you for your inspiring video's.
I really appreciate your honesty and
attention to detail.
Keep up the great work.
Kind regards from Ireland Kate. 👱♀️💕
Thank you so much Kate, I appreciate that! 🤗🌾
Very worthwhile update. I would love to hear about your ideas about goals.
Love this video! You have helped me simplify my life so much. Take care. I’ll be ready for your next video!
So happy to hear that, thanks Cathy! :) Enjoy your week!
You are so inspirational. For me, I don’t like obligations that stress me out. Don’t get me wrong - I am the most dependable and loyal person you could ever I know and I keep my promises but I have learned not to obligate myself to anything my heart is not fully in. Just say no is my motto.
Same! :)
I appreciate all you do, thank you for practical tips, ideas, and motivation for a better life.
Thank you so much Amanda! :)
So I prefer to commit to things I want in my life but not in a definite time of the year 😅
Thanks for sharing Giulia, and I agree about the New Year's resolutions :)
