  • Between 1163 and 1345, Paris saw the rise of Notre Dame Cathedral and in 1257 it hosted the foundation of an important university. Around these two institutions, a group of composers shaped a new way of writing music that enriched religious ceremonies. The coexistence of different voices in the same score, based on repetitive rhythmic patterns, resulted in hypnotic, refined and grandiose compositions. Many of them are also based on elegant Latin texts loaded with poetic images.
