This is a great experiment especially for pipers who are determined to always smoke right to the bottom of the bowl. For long time I was trying to do the same but then I really struggled to get any flavor from the bottom part. So I packed English blend at the top and aromatic at the bottom. Well, the first two thirds of the bowl tasted English with an aromatic component. The last third was flavorless/acrid. So my results support my thoughts that you`re not wasting any tobacco if you do not smoke to the bottom. Once you`ve smoked two third down the bowl, you`ve already squeezed all the flavor from the baccie in the bowl. So there`s no crime dumping the last third that has acted as a filter and is loaded with all the nasties and soaked with gunk. Thanks for this video. Happy Holiday🙂

Nice stack! Sounds like an intriguing parfait for the chimney. I've done this a few times in the past, too. No obscenity! Smoke what you like...and do as you please...and keep on sharing the adventures. I have a couple pipes with cavernous bowls, but this one was a sight to behold. Grazzi! Armellini does some great work. I have a calumet from him that smokes burley blends in a way that will carry the lucky piper off to paradise. :)
That’s an amazing pipe…I think you could make it last all day. I’ve tried mixing crumbs of ends of tins for some interesting blends at the end of the year but I definitely have to try layering in 2025. Have a great time smoking the rest of that pipe. Thanks for sharing. 👍😀

Layering tobaccos is a nice idea. I have done 2 or 3 tobaccos and have found it very pleasurable At Christmas I like to add a few grains of Frankincense to a pipe. Makes for a very exotic smoke.

I've mixed remnants together and had some interesting smokes...not bad either. But the layering is a novel idea. I did expect you to finish " in" Kentucky 😊. This is a method I will try when time permits. Look forward to what your take on this experience. Cheers..

Hello Briarbroom, a very interesting topic, the layering of tobaccos. In German channels, like "Nothern pipe smoker", they (incl. the master blender of DTM, Michael Apitz) try it with two tabaccos. It is already difficult to take the right one in the top/bottom position, that an optimum is taken. To take so many layers like you is a challenge. I'm afarid, that you get in the lower layers a so called "Frankenstein mixture". It is when you mix up all rest of tobaccos in one tin. As you perhaps know, I collect different kind of pipes and I thought about a chimney pipe like yours. But I decided against, because even in a normal bowl, often you can't smoke the rest of tobacco in the bottom of a bowl. The tobacco in the bottomn works like an additional filter (also in cigars) and does not taste well. The same in a chimney pipe but more extreme. So my asumption for your experience is: At the beginning you will taste the first 3 layers mixed with a small vanilla/fruit taste and different other Frankenstein aroma, later a Latakia or dark fired Kentucky layer would kill the rest. Another topic. I saw that you do not fire your pipe in a horizontal position, which leads to a fire on the surface, damaging it. This is the first pipe where I see heavily the result. Poor pipe.😪 But now I expect tomorrow your result of this smoking experiment, unfortunately the last time we see you this year... Greetings Jürgen
Hallo Juergen, thanks for your writing, I will answer in the next video regarding the tobacco taste, your other request is true...this pipe I suggested to Vilma Armellini to do for me with giving her the proportions because sometimes I like to have long smokes but I don't want to refill the pipe...so even the pipe is an experiment from the beginning on...so you need to b very careful to smoke her slow, unfortunately because of the size the bowl is already burned from the inside on one side 😪🥰 we will have to work on this prototype 🤩
Ha, Im preparing similar bowl sometimes but usualy two layers only cause I don't have as tall bowl as Yours. My favourite is some strong latakia on the bottom and and hevy aromatic on the top. Last it was Ashton Artisan blend followed by G&H Spirit of Scotland. Cheers to You.

I'm interested in work and tobacco. But above all I'm interested in moments. We all know that we don't smoke the same work depending on the moment we find ourselves in. We are wrapped up in cycles, big and small, and the juiciest thing we can get is the awareness of being there, being really present in each moment. You burn the side of the bowl when you light your pipe. You should get a zippo pipe lighter and hold the bowl level.

If you’ve got a pipe with a bowl that big, and a whole lotta blends to choose from, why not experiment? Also makes for good content!
