Welcome aboard. Although we feel like we're now living vicariously through the handful of people who are still able to live on their boats right now 😁⛵️
Yes we’re more than happy to let far more seasoned sailors impart as much of their wisdom onto us as possible, before we cut the cord (so to speak). It’s been super helpful having teachers with so much experience helping us get to know this specific boat more intimately.
Daniel Hoyle you’re very welcome, it’s a pleasure to share these awesome moments, and yes, we were super lucky with the weather up in (surprisingly warm) Scotland 😎😁
A bit of a taste of rough seas to start you off,and you survived just fine, onwards and upwards from here👍 A few technical issues to sort out at your earliest convenience, then you should be right for a while, she's a fairly solid boat I think. Comforting to have some good experienced hands along to help you settle in. Looking forward to seeing you next time, all the best😊
Wayne Doeblin yes, we’ve already replaced a couple of parts, and we have the AIS box out and it’s being looked at by a specialist as it doesn’t seem to be transmitting any signal. Other than that, there’s a few leaks hatches which we discovered when the waves come over the bow, but looking forward to tinkering about and getting the jobs sorted as and when they pop up. Having Eddie on the boat for a solid two weeks is indeed helping us to find our feet without too much of a thud, although I’m sure the sea will always keep us humble, regardless of how much we learn.
Wow! When I was about 10, I read books on sailing and round the world sailing, but now will never afford a boat of any kind, though we love cruising (on rather larger ships!).
Really great stuff...I look forward to more of your adventures, I feel like I am a stowaway on board (lol). The boat looks great and no doubt very capable to do what you ask of it. May you have favourable winds and following seas, keep safe and well! regards from Australia (once more)
Jochen Ludewig thanks for the kind words, and you’re more than welcome to voyeuristically stow away on the adventure with us. Hoping to make it down to your neck of the woods eventually 🤞👌😎
Nice boat. Excellent choice for what you want to do. Wouldn't worry about the wind instruments. They are a waste of money unless you wish to race. They just distract you from 'listening' to your boat. The boat will tell you when you need to reef and your cheeks and sails will tell you all you need to know about wind direction. Have cruised for over 50 years and never used them, even though I have inherited them on various boats I have owned. GPS failure seems to be a common occurrence on boats. I, and many other cruisers I know, usually have one or more bargain basement hand held GPS's aboard. boatbandit.com and defender.com are good sites for that sort of stuff. Love your presenting style. It always makes me smile in a good way.
Chris Hudson thanks, mate, shouldn’t be much longer now. We’re going to be leaving Ireland around the 11th and then heading straight to Falmouth, I think, then we may take a week or so bobbing back round until we get home.
Hi, loving the adventure and dreaming of some nicer weather--waiting to get back out there-- in the meantime enjoying the show from our living room way out in Western Canada and our West Coast drizzle .
Bayani Custodio as far as sailing goes, it was amazing and we were really lucky to have perfect conditions, although we did end up with a fair few issues to work out by the time we got to Inverness 🙈😬⛵️
It’s our pleasure. It’s fun making them and feels great to share the adventure. We certainly enjoy many of the sailing vlogs out there, in fact it’s safe to say that we were inspired to make this crazy life choice after binge watching all the different people, sailing off on their own epic adventures 😬⛵️
Congratulations - always such a great feeling to be back on the boat in the spring .Another great video - looking forward to more . What a great comfort to have experienced help along and a great learning environment . You did look the part with beard and the cap . Volvo engine ? alarms ? Volvo's can be a little quirky and give false alarms . I have a friend who spent a lot of time trying to fix an overheat problem on his only to find out it something wrong with the Volvo sensor/alarm .
Ha ha, yes I thought I’d at least try and look the part, even if my sailing skills are still very much beginner level. It’s been amazing having Mike and Eddy with us, a perfect mix of education and peace of mind indeed. They’re also great company down the pub after each sail 😬🍻
nice music selection. slowly working my way through your vids. suggestion: please please date your vids. it's nice for us/me to know how far back they are.
Hello there, thanks for the kind words, we're super happy with the boat, and hope that we'll take good care of each other. We'll be down in Hamble probably until this time next year, where we hope to develop our skills enough to set off to the Med, and then who knows after that. That's the plan anyway. :)
Sailing Cadoha Ok cool, I am based in Chichester Harbour, Sailing a Rival 32 so may see you around the Solent. I sailed out of the Hamble for many years, busy place but the Solent is a great place to hone your skills. Fair winds. Andy UK
Thanks, we really like the old girl, too. We’re sailing her back down to Hamble, where we hope to learn as much as we can in the next year about both the boat, and sailing, and then most likely head down to the Mediterranean on her next year. Baring any catastrophe, that’s what we’re aiming for. We also want to explore as much of the amazing British coastline as we can, while we refine our skills too. What we’ve seen already has been mind blowingly amazing, so we’re really keen to explore even more, locally first. That’s the ball park plan.
Thanks for your prompt reply. It all sounds eminently sensible and I wish you well. Are you keeping your experienced skipper on board for the entire voyage to The Hamble ? Busy waters on the south coast..... I hope you can find some peace and quiet. Why did you not sail down the east coast and down The Channel ?
Peter T yes we’re keeping Eddie on board all the way home, he’s helping us in so many ways, he’s been totally invaluable throughout. We wanted to sail through the canal and down the Irish Sea because we had heard how stunning this route was (and it really is!) plus I’d also just found out that I have Irish and Scottish ancestors and so thought it’d be nice to go on a kind of ‘who do you think you are’ type voyage. So far on this journey I’ve found out the clan and tartan that my great great grandmother belonged to, as well as the story of my great great grandfather who escaped the famine of Ireland, and came to England, and now we’re in Dublin (couple of episodes behind), I’m exploring the museums and leaning about the realities of the people of that time. So over all, I’m even happier we came home the scenic route. Also Eddie wanted to visit some of his old friends along this route home, and we’re more than happy to see some of his favourite sailing haunts, he’s had a very interring and colourful life!! 👌⛵️
Hello there, well these videos are slightly behind where we're actually at, as we're over in Dublin now, and will be setting sail back to England on the 11th.
With all of the Supply Boats 🚤⛴🛥🚢🚣🏻♀️ and Others in the Northsea supporting the Oil Rigs Up there, it must make it a bit nerve racking on night watch, right 🤷🏻♂️especially with no AIS on board..??
@@CadohaAdventures Hahaha, we are actually the same way, there are now a days Way to Many hi-tech devices to keep up with that we Didn’t have working back in the 70s, 80s and 90s, heck, GPS wasn’t even approved (Legal for Navigation) until the late 90s early 2000s..!! So after we stopped working we got rid of the Cell phones too even, gone back to Low Tech like it used to be.😎👍✅
I still do not understand why folks give a thumbs down. I have been living on a Powles 41 Swan of Hamble which was based in Bucklers Hard. Where are you based now. Have you had second thoughts about renaming boats as it is said to be bad luck lol. I am just going to add to Ss so Hamble becomes Shambles lol. Did you do a video on the search, price points, requirements, why not a motor boat, etc? I am moving onto a van named Fran. Do check my out videos. Any tips on what brand drone? Ta
Eric Hyney we actually have some mics on order for better sound quality generally, so hopefully that’ll improve the volume too? 🤞 Appreciate the feedback.
What a smile absolutely brilliant
Living vicariously through you guys...
