Chiefs fan here. Mahomes wasn't the only Chiefs player to execute in that game; the entire team.....every player and coach/coordinator executed when they absolutely needed to. I know Patrick gets 90% of the glory, but the whole team was great.
All Hail Tommy Townsend. His hold after the high and wide snap on the record setting 57 yard field goal was heroic. A 62 yd. punt with no return ain't too shabby either.
It's never just one person.

I think this team this year exemplifies why football is a team sport. Harrison Butker and special team's putting up points on the board, the defense held the other team, while we offense was figuring it out. It's takes the whole team!
Nick Allegretti played all 79 snaps despite suffering a torn UCL in his elbow in the second quarter, per source. What a monster!
He's played in all 16 playoff games the Chiefs have since he came into the league in 2019. He's been mostly a backup/special teamer, but he's stepped in on offense when needed and even caught a touchdown pass in the game against the Steelers in 2021. From everything I've ever heard about him he's a great dude and now he's a 3-time Super Bowl champion (and 4-time AFC champion) to boot.
That's what I was thinking when they were talking about him looking exhausted on that last play. Dude is a warrior

Reid's play-calling on the final OT drive was a Master Class. SF was set-up all game and fooled on that drive play after play. Genius.
It was a hold by the chiefs of o line it’s crazy how they never called any holds on chiefs they were literally wrapping their hands around boss and the rushing defense

People doubted the Chiefs this season, but after watching this it really shouldn't be that surprising that they won the game. The players and coaches are just in absolute lockstep in process, communication, ingenuity, and overall effort. Well done by them.

Game winning play Kelce never even turned around, he watched it on the Stadium screen, because he knew Hardman was wide open since the defender took Kelce
That's EXACTLY how you use the QB draw: by never using it! Its main power is in the surprise factor.
Same with Corn Dog motion, where the WR LOOKS like he's just motioning across the formation, like he's done 100 times, but stops and reverses field at the snap, catching the CB/S out of position, with inside leverage, giving the WR the outside leverage for the walk-off TD.
You can tell how DCs drill their Ds on how to handle all those motions, and they neglect telling them to keep their eye on the motion man. Instead, both Philly and San Fran had drilled their guys to shift with the motion, but they didn't school their eyes, so they either missed or were late to get back in position when the WR breaks off his motion and reverses field.
I can totally see how that weakness would creep into a defense, invisibly, because nobody does Corn Dog, and the regular motion is something that requires instant response. So guys are looking to their "new" keys and shifting, but they're not ready for the WR to break off that motion and reverse field.
In each of the last two SBs, "Corn Dog" was something KC hadn't done, before, and the surprise was total. You'd think that after SB LVII that San Fran would be looking for that, especially down near the end zone.
Think of how many times the Chiefs did NOT "Corn Dog" to set this up. It's unreal how many new wrinkles the Chiefs keep close to their vests all year, even when some trickery or new wrinkles might have won them more games during the regular season.

People that don’t really know the game, don’t realize how much of a chess match football is. Just because you have the best qb to ever play the game doesn’t mean you try to score big TDs every possession. The Chiefs played the field position and special teams game for half the game - you can do that with a defense you trust. Then they turned on the offense when they needed it and closed the game out.
I think it was called at a perfect time. The defense probably was looking for it for much of the game, but you wait till overtime, when that defense is absolutely exhausted & probably not thinking with quite as much clarity & it’s easy to get that one extra step, which is all you need..
On the touchdown Kelce wasn't even looking at the play and threw his hands up to celebrate. He knew it was gonna work.
It’s almost as if the Chiefs were pulling their punches until the last drive of the fourth quarter. Then when they had to have it, they had it.
Yes.. a microcosm of the season.. they saved everything for the playoffs then had even more saved up for the last drive of the SB

I wouldn't consider them as a dynasty yet, but barring a collapse, they very likely will be in a few years. Dont expect three Super Bowl games in the next 5 years, it's just not going to happen. Great break down of the plays, some of the best that i 've seen.
Not mentioned on Patrick’s keeper was that Kelcy screened Bosa as well, hiding Patrick’s keep. So many levels of greatness.
The blocking by Creed Humphrey on that last drive was stuff of legends.

What is NOT obvious is that Andy and Mahomes already knew the 9ers holes and were saving it for when they really needed it to exploit it. The brilliance of the Chiefs is amazing. I am not worthy to watch it, but only say the word and I will watch the Super Bowl [again].
I mean it kinda seemed obvious to me because they do that. They just analyze their opponents and then dissect them. They usually like the cushion of one first drive score which they didn’t get but they’ve said that Andy Reid has a bunch of plays he runs in the beginning to see how they respond to different things so he can decide how he wants to do it. I mean I know a lot of coaches do that but Andy Reid makes the most of it. That defense gives him time to be sure his plays will work. You can see Mahomes seeing holes and being so tempted but then pull back too.

hey great video - super interesting and focused content - thanks! ps if you listen to Travis on his new Heights podcast, he was carrying around some guilt type stuff from Hardman's fumble at the goal line during the Bills game. He said that was because he (Travis) neglected to block somebody (who ended up causing that fumble), so he always wanted to do Hardman a solid so to speak--It's fantastic to see him look up the jumbotron, knowing that Hardman got the winning touchdown.

21:34 Hey just want to point out that Coach Reid gave Matt Naggy credit for drawing up the original "Corndog" play that fakes the fly-motion and scored twice in last-year's Superbowl. Apparently this play was a variation called Tom and Jerry that disguises it a little for the defense that would have seen the last year's tape!
The original corn dog play came from Doug Pederson when he told Reid the Eagles had issues with switching on motions
The play was supposed to be a shovel pass to McKinnon. They were expecting Bosa to hold the edge against Mahomes but he crashed the inside and engaged McKinnon instead. Kelce and Hardeman were the next reads.

That 3rd and 1 where Rice picks up the first down on the mesh concept. I love that Reid had the back in what McVay calls the “ALI” protection.
OL slides to the left and the RG and RT sets and fans and the back takes A gap rusher.
Mahommes drifts a little longer to give him more time to hit the shallow on the mesh.

I like how you guys really break down the O line. I feel like when I watch other channels, they just give platitudes to the O-line, but don't give it enough attention. I thought Allegretti did PHENOMINAL. But I also liked how Pennel on the D line really cleaned things up and made Jones and others get home. What I used to say in years past; was if we (Chiefs) had a top 10 defense, we would cruise to a super bowl. It's really refreshing to see the Defense, special teams and players you don't normally hear about...get their moment to shine. I've been kind of hard on Hardman. He gets traded to the Jets, I'm like 'that's fine by me'. But then the execution was so bad in the WR room, that mid season I'm thinking "you know what? Mecole wasn't bad at all". Then he comes back and I'm like 'ah...okay'. Finally in the SB, he gets the walk off TD. I mean if Reid was able to script that? He's a freaking coaches coach. There is no way any defensive coordinator was scared of Allegretti or Hardman or MVS...but here we are. Amazing break down guys!

Actually, he maintained his lanes early in the game. But I've watched him too many times, I knew he would break discipline.

In the OT drive the Chiefs used Bosa's effective penetration skill against him. Brilliant play calling!

I have to wonder is Bosa heard a “beep-beep” on that fourth and one play.
In Bosa's defense the Chiefs ran a lot of plays in the second half that were basically complex variations of a triple option where they keyed on Bosa's reaction. Both the 4th and one conversion in overtime and the game winning touchdown were examples of it. No matter what Bosa decided to do he leaves an option open for Mahomes.

Interesting extra level insight on the Hardman Corndog game winner--These things don't just happen. It very intentionally HAD to be Hardman. Last year chiefs played 49ers in the regular season and Hardman scored 3 TDs all on jet sweeps. They put Hardman in to run motion to fake the jet sweep, then run the Corndog play they used on Philly. Literally didn't even use either play until it mattered the most.
Talk about driving the stake deep into the heart, saying "F U" before closing the casket and burying it 6 ft underground. How else could you see that as anything but Grandmaster Chess from Coach Reid?!
He had this play in his pocket and never used it during the game, so it was a totally new play in overtime. That holding plays is something Andy does. This is a play they have used and practiced but not in any recent games. It is genius to hold plays, you know work, thenuse them at jey points.

I know Bosa is a helluva pass rusher, but this video is a great example of how teams can take advantage of his one dimensional mindset. The Chiefs just completely abused his aggressiveness.

That was great. I never seen anyone analyze the drive like you guys did.
As a KC fan, holding SF to a FG was huge in OT, but I sure wasn't confident about the KC offense being able to drive within field goal range, let alone score the TD.
The loss of Greelaw was pretty huge, I thought. That was when the SF defense started looking a little bit vulnerable.
Before the game I told my wife to watch the SF linebackers. Their play would be key to KC having no chance or a good chance. No one expected Greenlaw to pop his Achilles tendon. What a loss! Once KC sized up his replacement (at game speed), they went to Kelce a bunch and ran up the middle with Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes is now 11th on the all-time Super Bowl rushing leaderboard with 172 yards (Joe Montana is the next-highest quarterback, in 35th with 105 yards). Shoutout to former Redskin Timmy Smith, who sprang loose for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns in Super Bowl XXII, his only career appearance; that ties him with Thurman Thomas for 6th all-time.

Hardman confirms the final play coming together in an interview. Ward (#7) is in zone coverage, Hardman knew he would be open.

If you listen to the mic'd up, you could hear Mahomes telling #4 (Rice) to get ready for the ball. Pretty cool and pretty confident.

Since 2001 in the postseason there have been 120 4th quarter drives 1 minute or less on clock and offense needing at least 3 points. The league average is 40% Mahomes is 7 for 7. He’s just different

Patrick keeping the ball on 4th down is common sense, too many things can go wrong and it's 4th down, no more chances. Love how the play had 3 different options all of which were available, he just picked the safest one.

The whole thing reminds me of great Mohammed ali ; he would play you mediocre and let you come full swing till he would wear you out then at the clutch time would finish you off . The same scenario ; don't show what you have , make them think they have upper hand , play mediocre , don't have to be great the whole game , and save your best for the end of the game when they are worn out . BAM it works every time cuz the opponents underestimate you.

He was actually playing well & disciplined most of the game forcing Mahomes to run E-W not N-S in the pocket. The Chiefs just got him on that 4th and 1 play.

Starting at 19:58 watching #48, Oren Burks see the winning touchdown and not being able to do anything about it is really something. I'm a life long 49er fan, and I was worried when I learned they were rematching KC in the SB! Knowing how good and clever Mahomes and company are.
However, the 9ers had many missed opportunities especially at 7:30 in OT where they were on the 8 yard line. They did some lame pass play and threw away that opportunity. I believe Ayuk was open too. I wish they did some kind of run play where Brock could score the winning TD! - that would've been Historic! I could imagine it but reality told a different story....
One could think the game was rigged, not just because the 9ers lost, but because there were sooo many missed opportunities. Anyway. it was an exciting game between two great teams! Well worth the watch!!

What I find incredable, at 11:44 #10 is dragged to the ground (was it a facemask or just holding?), #15 looks to him, looks away to give him time to get up, then goes back to him when the deep ball isn't open.

Thinking back to how upbeat I was when KC drafted Mahomes....watching from Manhattan,, Kansas.....Saw him play against our Wildcats.
My brother is a lifelong Chiefs fan since the 70s so I watch a lot of them even though I'm a lifelong Atlanta fan...when they moved up and took Mahomes I remember telling him that KC would be winning multiple Super Bowls in short order. The table was set, all they needed was a qb like Mahomes.

Yes, the Chiefs were playing chess and the ninners were playing checkers until the bitter end, when it really counted.
The second to last play to Kelce his body was moving left and the pass was a little high so going upfield at that point would have been difficult. He was also not able to see clearly the open up field quickly enough.
You guys didn’t even talk about the number 10 getting thrown to the ground by bossa, and then getting up and catching that play before going out of bounds

On the one to Pacheco, why wasn't Kelce's route an out right at the 1st down sticks? You said Mahomes was watching for Rice to come open bit they stayed deep on him
And that's what a lot of people don't understand about what you see on the TV and what the referees can see from their vantage point. They miss a lot of hold calls during the game for two reasons. One sometimes they just let the players play. But the other reasons is they can't see everything from their vantage point. And when you have big linemen in front of your vision, you're not going to see a hold like that
You have 7 officials watching 22 players, but they're also watching the clock, the sidelines, the line to gain, and the line of scrimmage. It's amazing that they get as much as they do right.

i was yelling all game, Bosa seal ....Bosa seal. I didnt care about Bosa running down Pacheo. There was no need to crash down on Pacheo. Hes a good running back but the 9ners linebackers are fast enough to close on runs. The times when Bosa sealed the edge it led to sacks and errand passes by Mahomes. The 9ners up 3pts with the Chiefs needing to go the length of the field and the DC is calling all out blitzes. The chiefs nickle and dimed their way down field on screen plays. Mahomes just had to throw over the blitz because the secondary was playing 11yds off the ball. I blame Steve Wilks for not making adjustments. I blame Shanahan for not telling Wilks to make adjustments.
