    My problem is exactly what you stated, outside in and coming across the ball. I’ve never had it explained so well with easy to understand swing thoughts and drills.

    Finally...a solution. After about a five year hiatus from golf I decided to take it back up now that I am retired. Was shooting in the mid 80s when I quit. For some inexplicable reason I was often hitting the ball off the toe and I mean severe toe hits. I did not feel like I was coming over the top but my shots, even when decent, were somewhat all over the place too. Often I could string a few goods one together if I was warmed up enough. After seeing this video and working to start the club more down from the top it took care of all the toe hits and my consistency and getting solid impacts has improved a lot. Feels like my old swing too. Great explanation of what was possibly causing my problem. Thanks so much for this one man.

    Thank you! You just confirmed what stumbled upon at the range a couple days ago. I noticed most of my missed shots were off the toe. Watched a couple other videos, but they didn't make sense. What I noticed was if I focused on hitting the ball at 4 o'clock (inside out), I was back hitting the sweet spot. I use to always swing that way but over the years I drifted away from it, due to age, flexibility etc. Now I'm back!

    Very interesting point about how an uphill lie helps bring the swing inside and on plane. On the tee box I’m always looking for a placement slightly above my feet because I feel it helps me not to slice. I never understood why that was but this explains it brilliantly.

    HI Mike! I just subscribed. I'm a better player(13 handicap playing blue tee's) who's battling toe hits and being "stuck" with path too inside to out on woods/driver. Watched your vid last night, went out today, went to home depot had some "uphill lie" plywood boards cut, went and hit small bucket doing this idea of "letting the club drop down". Bout half way through bucket, 20 balls or so, was still hitting on toe. Mind you, I just bought Chiliwacker aid for $170 and was using it for 3 sessions. Still on toe. Using contact tape today on 9 iron face to see impact as always, 20 shots in still no result. In my mind, I thought about what you said/illustrated about keeping your head back/not opening your left shoulder too soon. Some combination of that thought or just getting to ball 21 and not giving up, but the next 16 shots to finish the bucket of 36 balls approx went center face, even had one hosel rocket Hallelujah!! I have watched about 5-6 entire TH-cam vids on this topic and really tried the teachings. Only your lesson got it done for me!! On this issue, you nailed it!!!!!! Thank you!!!
    I also wanted to say on another topic, when I get a side hill lie above my feet, not to0 extremely high, I tend to pure the ball. Wonder what you think of that experience?

  • @corycare5241
    @corycare5241 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great explanation. I noticed last round with an uphill lie, hit it dead solid due to that inside out swing. I will work with this drill and take a couple boards along to the range. Thanks for this instruction!

  • @indiefruit
    @indiefruit 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like even if you manage to strike the ball it would still come off as a slice, so this is definitely my problem. Slice with driver, toe shots or slice with irons.
    Really good video for an issue I've never really seen people explain well before.

    So when you come down with the handle, where should the grip be pointing...inside the ball or at the ball? I've been trying this the last couple of times out but just being conscious of where I'm bringing the club down. Haven't tried using legs yet but will. Great video...

    • @mikewilsongolf

      The ball above your feet lie also shallows the downswing, just like an uphill lie. Both are great for curing the toe strike. Thanks for the comment Mike!

    I am a low handicapper experiencing a power loss with off-center hits.
    My driver and wedges are the best clubs in my bag.
    For middle irons and fairway woods the ball contact does not feel right.
    Could be a toe strike....?
    So with your tip I am having trouble manipulating the hands and arms to accomplish the 'club drop to the inside'.
    The club keeps crashing onto the ground at impact.
    Would focusing on the path of the tip of the right shoulder accomplish the same thing?

    • @mikewilsongolf
      @mikewilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jon, good driver and wedge shots usually from a shallow approach angle. But….the same shallow approach will cause thin shots, heel strikes, poor contact with your irons and fwy woods. Trying to get even shallower is causing your club to crash into the ground. You actually need a steeper angle of attack to fix your irons. Mike

  • @m4wilson
    @m4wilson ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have no trouble with irons. But driver? It’s almost impossible to not hit the toe. Any suggestions? Or external cues? Why is it so different?

    Mike I like your voice and manner as it's relaxing and clear but can I ask, with all of the success you seem to have had as a coach, why haven't you been successful as a professional golfer in tournaments?

    • @jacobr4558
      @jacobr4558 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being good at golf and playing professionally are 2 different worlds. Most professional golfers have sponsor or some sort of money behind them. You don't jyst become a professional golfer because you're good.
      Also teaching golf is a very unique skill that has nothing to with playing golf well.

    That's my miss and that's wat I'm doing.If you have clubs that are hard to hit or there not weighted for your swing it does make a huge difference for the better player.I found set of Tommy armor irons that I love.there not blades but the are smaller like a blade I hit them alot better than the old jack nicklaus ones I was playing with.There balanced.There like day and night from the other ones.

    Huge problem for me. In my case I determined,after watching lots of my swings on video, that my main issue seems to be that I am coming from the inside but I do not have enough “out” in my swing. I have tried many things. I practice a lot with three balls line up next to each other and my goal is obviously to hit the middle ball. It works well, but I take the three balls away and hit balls with just the one there I go right back to hitting it off the toe. Very frustrating.

    • @cubfan69kmz85
      @cubfan69kmz85 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hit balls this morning in my garage. I am even more confused then I was yesterday. Using video I saw that when I am doing the three ball drill my swing is much more on plane and my arm structure seems ok. When I go back to the one ball my swing looks ugly. Arm structure is horrible on the downswing doing that. Granted there is definitely mechanical things going on, but I am starting to think this is becoming a psychological issue since my whole swing short circuits at various times.

    Hi Mike,
    Have had 5-50 ball bucket sessions and thanks to your recommendation using uphill lie drill I've moved off toe to center. Last two sessions I've now moved a little too far to heal lol. I'm backing off the boards next time out. I know it's ok initially to be on the heal cause it means I've gotten a result and def moved off toe.
    Any other thoughts for me to get a little more back to center from heal lol. Good prob considering where I came from . Thanks for your great content!

      You want the butt end leading, but try not to pull excessively with your arms. It’s best to you use your legs to start the club down. Pulling can create impact problems. Thank you for the question!
