  • I picked up my new Santa Cruz Tallboy S Carbon build a couple weeks ago and have taken it on several rides since. This is one of, if not the best, bike that I have ever ridden. If you are looking for one do it all trail bike, definitely take this one into consideration. Stay tuned to the channel for updates and more rides on this bike. Leave any questions in the comments and I will get back to you. Thanks for watching.

    Great ride video and commentary. I've had my 2022 CC build since October. Hands down the most agile, capable 29er I've ever owned. And I've been through several bikes in the past 20 years.

    I love my 2020 Tallboy. I highly recommend the cascade components lower link. I put that along with a rockshox super deluxe ultimate in the rear suspension and it was an unbelievable improvement. The bike is so poppy and playful now

    Agreed. This bike is not an XC bike at all. It’s def a short travel trail bike. This bike is crazy good. I have the same bike, 2020. I’ve got a lot of miles on it and it keeps getting better and better. The whole package is there, it does everything great IMO.

      @mtbholden8819  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah man, its totally awesome. I'm going to try to ride and race some XC with it so it might be interesting to see how it compares to a full XC bike.

      @jben4807 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Where I live there a lot of XC trails, sometimes I like to lock out the rear suspension and ride it that way. It’s not a true lock out, so you still get a descent amount of travel with great responsiveness. That’s just part of the greatness of this bike. I ride my bike almost every day, and I think to myself how awesome it is.

      Exactly my thoughts on the bike too. Just wish it had a half a degree steeper head tube angle for a more intuitive turn in for my tight technical trails where I live. I find you have to real throw it around side to side and work the bars in tight stuff to get it to turn-the price you pay for downhill stability.

    Great overview of the TB! Santa Cruz aptly names it: "The Downhiller's XC Bike" Couldn't agree more. I own a 2020 Tallboy CC with upgraded root beer 36 Fox Factory 140 MM fork and it absolutely rocks! I just put out a "controversial" vid on my yt channel saying my Tallboy is the BEST ALL AROUND mtb. And based on some of your comments here and on your video, many would agree! Keep up the great vids and rockin dat Tallboy!

    I have a 2020 Tallboy 4 and it’s the best all around Mtn bike I’ve ever owned. I love it! Climbs technical terrain beautifully and has amazingly smooth small to mid bump sensitivity. Not as efficient a pedaler as say a DW Link Ibis or Pivot, but not that far off either. A bit heavy though but who cares as most people are not racing this type of bike. Such a burly frame and the warranty is second to none. Just visited Santa Cruz’s factory/showroom in Santa Cruz in March and the people there were so nice. Great company!

    Strap the spare tube on top of the rear shock and tools in a pouch underneath, they're out of the way down there and helps to keep the mud/dust out of the shock housing. Also a DJI camera spare battery box fits into the VPP top tube link for bits and bobs.

    I’m crying into my pillow. My 2021 Tallboy AF is nothing like yours. It’s night and day comparison. I have a pandemic build of the lowest quality parts that I’ve been updating all year. Feel like if you don’t spend $7k on a bike you’re eventually going to spend that much the years following to update the Recons, tires, cranks, brakes, etc.. It is a good bike and I’m just jealous. Good video!

    • @mtbholden8819
      @mtbholden8819  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You really have to ride it like a hardtail, stay light on the pedals and pick your line in advance. But the bike can handle it really well.

  • @bauke-LV426

    Did you ever consider the hightower? And if so, what made you choose the tallboy? Awesome color scheme and gorgeous trails! You’d live there… so jealous 🤙

    • @mtbholden8819
      @mtbholden8819  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I rode and reviewed the Hightower a while back and it just seemed a bit too burly for the trails I intended to ride with it. I'm sure that the Hightower would be better for certain things on my local trails, but I wanted to spice things up and not have too large of a transition from my hardtail. Thanks!

    Great review. I have one on order and I can't wait to get it some time in July. I will be looking forward to your long term review video(s). @@mtbholden8819 no, im talking about the flip chip. There is a high setting and low setting that changes the geometry. There is also a flip chip on the rear axle that changes the bike to short and long setting. Do you know what the chainline is on your bike? Is it 52mm or 55mm? I've read conflicting reports. Santa Cruz told me it's 55mm. But others have reported it as 52mm. It's kind of important to know when you are buying new cranks as different models have different chainlines.

    • @Tomzzzzzz
      @Tomzzzzzz 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No worries, I am guessing you still love the bike? I am building mine this winter from frame up so picking all the parts as I go. Makes it a bit of a challenge when trying to make sure everything is compatible and dialed. SC support wasn't super helpful, so it might be a bit of trial and error for me on the drivetrain as I am using a mix of components (RF cranks, Garbaruk cassette, XT derailleur/chain/shiter).@@mtbholden8819

    Does your 2022 model have the "window" in the frame that allows you to see the shock sag settings? I have the same color 2022 (frame only) in CC carbon on order and coming soon. Can't wait to build it up! Oh yeah, after riding the bike this summer do you have any additional thoughts or changes you would like to or have made to it? In case you haven't seen it, here is a vid of Jackson Goldstone riding the 2022 Tallboy with Maxxis new Forekaster tires designed specifically for these 130-140mm "downcountry" bikes. th-cam.com/video/ziRQNN5tHlg/w-d-xo.html
