I can't speak on what it it's like to have my culture represented in this way, but as a woman, I've found the best representation in movies is when the representation isn't a big deal. In this world, it wasn't shocking that there was a female leader of Fang or that Raya and Namaari were trained and expected to be warriors. All of these things were expected and normal, and I believe true representation is achieved when it is no longer a big deal that women are in positions like these. When kids watch this movie, the notion that what Raya and Namaari are doing is abnormal or unusual won't even enter their head (unless otherwise conditioned to think so) because it's not even suggested that it would be.
One: the “culture” is Asian. Not “women”. It represents MY culture considering she’s Filipino which is what I am. Not women. Two: it’s not about the whole female lead crap. Well actually I can believe it is that’s why the movie flopped. But that’s besides my point. Three: you’re quite literally psycho if you think women would be doing this and not men.
The fact that 60% of this voice work was done literally in the actors closets because of covid makes me realize that they had to literally go above and beyond to make this all work! WELL FUCKING DONE💯🙏🏾
I was able to see this in theaters and the animation is absolutely amazing!! There were times where i could see skin texture and hair on Raya’s arms! I was blown away by the details we are able to show in animation
Such a great movie. I'm so tired of disney animation killing off parents or loved ones in every movie now, but i give them props on how they managed to kill everyone and completely crush you, just to have every single person that was lost be brought back and crush you emotionally all over again.
Saw it a couple days ago and thought it was amazing, Raya and the Last Dragon had so much heart to it and honestly would prefer movies like this from Disney instead of them doing live action remakes of Disney Classics. I like these fresh beautiful ideas, every character had a good story. 10/10 for me!
in southeast asia, it's almost a norm that any kid will get some training in martial arts. kind of like british people and theatre. at some point, you had to do it, so we have some basic training. for these ladies, they were raised with training in combat to protect their lands!
when I saw Namaari, I thought "That's the closest thing I'll ever see, to an embodiment of Beauregard from Critical Role." ......and, Sisu? that's Noodle from Gorillaz. ....and Raya? that's just Zendaya, animated.
Yes, it’s Thai Tom yam soup. Fawn Veerasunthorn, who is the Head of story of this movie and she’s also Thai, said that it’s Tom yam soup in her interview.
I don’t blame raya entirely for sisu’s “death”. Maari has betrayed her before and it cost her, her only family. Her father. Her village. Millions were turned to stone .
Makes me feel good to see you guys tear up because I’m pretty emotionless (lol) and I found myself uncontrollably tearing up at the ending and it made me question my entire life
I couldn’t help it. I cried at the end at the theater. I also cried during the In The Heights trailer, and the Disney short in the beginning. I was in a mood.
The shot at the end when we see Raya, the group, and Namarri all in stone reminds me of the stoned victims of Pompeii. The way it looked with the lighting and the lack of music was just so haunting. I love it when Disney goes dark.
I watched this movie high as hell, I gotta say that it was so damn good. It was an emotional rollercoaster that ended in me purchasing every Raya Pop vinyl the minute the movie ended.
I really liked the guy from Spine. He seems like he would be a fun guy to hang with and aside from that, he had a pretty sad story. He lost everything, his tribe his family, even his baby. And to hide his pain, he pretended to be this great feared brute of legend and I felt super happy for him when he got back to his village
Who else felt like this movie was like Avengers: Endgame? It's a story that takes place 6 years after an event where a majority of people have been dust/stoned and follows a team of protagonists who must avenge the fallen by collecting 5 pieces of an orb in the hopes that using them all together can bring everyone back to normal. Those who got stoned did not age while everyone else has. I mean....I'm not the only one seeing this right?

I saw this in the theater and I absolutely *LOVED* it I cried probably 3 or 4 times from sadness and happiness throughout the last part of the movie - and it takes a lot to make me cry at a movie

I liked the movie, but with how quick it flowed I would’ve loved it as a show. It would have fleshed a lot of story and let us dive into the world better to better impact us. Either that or make the movie longer.
This movie is way better than Frozen 2. The story had a better storyline and the world building felt like Avatar The Last Airbender. Frozen 2 was choppy and has a messy story.
Yes i did lol, i mean Frozen 2 was supposed to live up to the hype of Frozen but it didnt and the story was worse. There are also sequels that are better than the original in my opinion like Toy Story 2 and 3 vs 1 or like Capatin America Winter Soldier vs the first one. I also compared it to Frozen 2 because that was their latest Disney Princess movie before this
I have to disagree frozen 2 was Definetly better than the first one, it had a better the music was amazing, animation breathtaking and the overall plot and story line that elsa is trying to find out who she really is is so much more powerful than the first one
jesus christ, please get over it. there’s no need to shit on one movie on order to compliment another one. it’s fine to dislike the frozen franchise on your own, but this movie had nothing to do with it.
i know that no one cares 😜 but as an indonesian, id say they did a pretty awesome job representing us south east asians! feels refreshing ✨✨ 3.5/5 those close-ups shots where the characters took off their footwear entering a house 👍 yas yass yassss lol

Just love you guys, and I love love love this movie. You are so sweet when you see adorable characters. It makes you even more adorable than the characters 😊
So funny to see two dudes watching this movie. That said,, my five year old daughter has made me watch it three times so far. And I loved it. And my eyes did get a little misty when they gave up their gems.
I loved this movie!! I watched it twice in a week. I love the animation! But also love the writing, the music, etc. I want to just slap the people who were complaining “there’s no love interest? no princess dresses? No princes? No main male characters?! NO MUSICAL NUMBERS?” Yeah and that is what is refreshing! This is a action comedy and it didn’t need the musical numbers or pointless romance plot lines. And the thing about being no male characters is just soo soo stupid!
the ending was backwards. she had every reason not to trust the "bad girl" and she even tried to flip it in the end out of nowhere. in a regular movie the would have been decapitated and for good reason.
This movie should have been a mini-series, with each episode focusing on one country and Raya's quest to obtain the shard of said country. I liked the movie, but bits of it felt slightly rushed and just "sort of happened". Would've liked it if they fleshed out the world more.
I wanted so badly to love this movie, but I only really like it. Precisely because it should have been longer. Everything this movie sets out to do, it does well, but the final product as a whole feels rushed and unfulfilling. The music, the animation, the action, the world is all fantastic, but I only care about the first 4 main characters Raya, Naamari, Sizu, and Boon. There wasn't enough time for me to really care about Tong and the conbaby that doesn't even get a name until a random comment just before the start of the third act. As a result, I love all of the individual elements, but the whole needed to be longer for me to care about everyone and feel like the world is lived in. 7.5/10. Still better than Brave.
I disagree. Sure there's not alot of time to soak everything in, but there are enough subtle hints about each place/character for us to to be able to fill in a few blanks. I will say that Namaari's line to Raya after their big fight was a bit of a disservice to the overall message, but that's my only real complaint. (Also the scene in Spine did feel a little rushed, but that's more of a nit-pick on my part.) Overall, I'd raise that 7.5 to a reasonable 8.
Just watch the movie yesterday, I really enjoy it, just beautiful. Like how they put mix South east asian culture in it like Wayang kulit or Keris and the architecture building like Fangs remind me of building structure in Padang, Indonesia, Water village like in Sabah, Malaysia and Thailand. Food for example like durian and the martial art and fight scene with the stick remind me of Philippines martial art and silat.
its a disney movie,it doesnt have to be a complex story...it caters more toward kids im an adult but i still love disney movies even how simple and predictable the story is....because ive grown watching dsney movies since i was a kid
Hilarious thing happened when I saw this movie. It was nice and sunny today, so I decided to ride my bike up to the theater to see this movie. Nothing really said we were expecting rain. But as soon as I get out of watching a movie with a dragon that has the power to control rain, it starts spontaneously raining on and off my whole ride home
To be honest I wasn’t going to see this movie, but then I found out my favorite composer James Newton Howard (Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, Dinosaur, Maleficent, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms) was doing the score so I decided to see it in the theaters. I enjoyed the movie I thought it was good. I hate the singing in Disney films so when I found out that James Newton Howard was on board I knew that it didn’t have singing so it’s already a good movie for me. I did cry at some parts but that’s because James Newton Howard’s work really moved me at the emotional scenes. Seeing James’s work interacting with the film is always astounding. The highlights for me for this movie were the animation, story, action, and James Newton Howard.
While watching this movie, when it showed that each territory had a piece of the gem and Raya was going to each to collect the pieces, I instantly thought, “this is classic video game structure” lol
I liked the movie. The Southeast Asian influence, the fact that we saw two women as lead characters in an action setting, interesting dynamics, the message of trust that wasn't preachy or corny (well, a little, it *is* a Disney)... Plus all the technical aspects you mentioned: the animation, the fight scenes, and especially the music, which I feel is always half the story of the success for adventure movies. But at the same time, yeah, I felt the movie was too short to fully enjoy the world built for it. I believe that's at least partly intentional, as it leaves room to expand on it in other media, but the culture and environments created were so rich and diverse I kind of wished we'd spent more time in each. Also felt that it was too fast-paced on occasions, with the stakes not being progressively elevated enough. But apart from that, great movie, good watch. Thanks for the reaction.
There's this really amazing Values Education teacher in our school (and luckily, she became our subject teacher last year) who requires or gives her students an assignment on Christmas Break; which is watch a movie she recommended and answer the questions (which were really easy if you're an open minded and genuine person). Our batch was given Raya and The Last Dragon:)
i wonder what john's dad thinks when watching this - or if he doesn't (tho i hope john's dad does lol) when john talks to him again and gives his dad a bear hug the dad's going to be like "oh, what's this for, son?" "oh nothing dad, just we made false claims about you while watching a children's movie, no big deal" "oh okay, wait what? what'd you say?"
My only problem with this movie is the message about Trust. I’m not saying it’s a bad message, I just thought it was being a little too one sided on the idea that you should trust someone blindly. There are a lot of characters in this movie who are not trust worthy and the movie seemed to lean into the idea that trust is something you must give when it’s really earned. That being said, I see what this film was trying to achieve and, for the most part, did achieve it, I just wish better writing went into making the message more 3-dimensional and even adding more character development for the dragon character and showing her to learn about why trust has to be earned but shouldn’t be withheld so much.
Does anyone feel bad for the one who has the glow she was pretty useless- But if you think about it that gem was made by the glowing sibling I am pretty sure...
The Reel Rejects give me Game Grumps but instead of being grumpy or play games, the make skits andreaction videos vibes. These 2 are fucking hilarious someone needs to make compilations of them and have them react to it somehow thatd be amazing!
I really, really need that statue to be built, life-sized, at every Disney park across the world. Also, I need a sequel where Raya and Namaari are canon.
Omg I know what part you are watching at beginning of this video! ( Don't worry, I got leaky eyed too) Sub.. script..tion! edit; just watched movie yesterday and crying Again at the end part along with you!
I can't say for other South East Asia countries. But there is a lot of Indonesia references in this movie. - Indonesia national anthem has "Raya" word in its title. - That Raya's snake like weapon is called "Kris/ Keris." It's Indonesian traditional weapon. - Tuk Tuk means "Knock Knock" in Indonesian language. - That traditional shadow puppet theatre for the intro story is called "Wayang." - That house/ palace with horn like roof is inspired by Sumatra Island traditional house. There are still a lot of it that I can see from this movie, but I can't mention it one by one. I love this movie.
Well Disney team got inspired for the name of tuk tuk 🛺 from Thai open air taxi when the Disney team went to Thailand to looking for a reference so I don’t think that tuk tuk came from knock knock for this movie though.

Like how they put mix South east asian culture in it like Wayang kulit or Keris and the architecture building like Fangs remind me of building structure in Padang, Indonesia, Water village like in Sabah, Malaysia and Thailand. Food for example like durian and the martial art and fight scene with the stick remind me of Philippines martial art and silat.
its a disney movie,it doesnt have to be a complex story...it caters more toward kids
im an adult but i still love disney movies even how simple and predictable the story is....because ive grown watching dsney movies since i was a kid
this hits hard because here in South East Asia, we are too competitive but we also have each other's back when someone picks a fight with us
I thought this movie was overall good.
Raya's father is voiced by Steven Yeung
Tuck Tuck is an armadillo
Thank you for reacting!
I love Raya and The Last Dragon too
Fandom brings people together 🤣🤣🤣LOL
I just finished the movie, gotta say it's amazing
"Broke the Tesseract" OMG HAHAHA
There's this really amazing Values Education teacher in our school (and luckily, she became our subject teacher last year) who requires or gives her students an assignment on Christmas Break; which is watch a movie she recommended and answer the questions (which were really easy if you're an open minded and genuine person). Our batch was given Raya and The Last Dragon:)
what the hell is the thing with John's dad
i took them as just some humor banter nothing more lol.
Greg and my dad have a history...
@@ReelRejects damn...i am scared
Saw it at theaters and it was so good, another movie for my List of Disney Movies I'll watch again.
Fandom brings people together lol🤣🤣🤣💜💜💜 I can’t-
Oh man I just watched this at work the other night and it was great!!
i wonder what john's dad thinks when watching this - or if he doesn't (tho i hope john's dad does lol) when john talks to him again and gives his dad a bear hug the dad's going to be like "oh, what's this for, son?"
"oh nothing dad, just we made false claims about you while watching a children's movie, no big deal"
"oh okay, wait what? what'd you say?"
Does anyone feel bad for the one who has the glow she was pretty useless-
But if you think about it that gem was made by the glowing sibling I am pretty sure...
THE DAD JOKES LMAO
Awwww, you 2 look choked up with emotions. It is a damn good movie!
The Reel Rejects give me Game Grumps but instead of being grumpy or play games, the make skits andreaction videos vibes. These 2 are fucking hilarious someone needs to make compilations of them and have them react to it somehow thatd be amazing!
i just got done watching the whole thing! would definitely watch multiple times :)
Tbh this is 1 of the best disney movies in a while
Agreed. This is the best animated Disney movie since... When did "Moana" come out?
Just finished the movie today it was great.
Great song at the end of the movie. :)
I really, really need that statue to be built, life-sized, at every Disney park across the world. Also, I need a sequel where Raya and Namaari are canon.
I've watched this film 3 times already! Its so good!
this movie gives me the sort of Dr. Stone vibes when the human turned into stone
Omg I know what part you are watching at beginning of this video! ( Don't worry, I got leaky eyed too)
Sub.. script..tion! edit; just watched movie yesterday and crying Again at the end part along with you!
Such a wholesome video you guys are the best!
- That traditional shadow puppet theatre for the intro story is called "Wayang."
- That house/ palace with horn like roof is inspired by Sumatra Island traditional house.
@@Sherryn_ne Maybe both. In the movie she knocked Tuk Tuk twice when she stopped at that desert.
Watched it day before yesterday. I actually liked it the Con Baby was awesome!!!
