Randi is so goddamn lovable! Her enthusiasm is infectious, and she's just brilliant to listen to! Her kookiness is awesome, she's like the Janis Joplin of Fixing, building, creating, Tomy toys and toy robots! Her knowledge of how these toys and gadgets work is incredible!
I'll take that. Thank you very much.
@@RandiRain You're very welcome, Randi! I think you're awesome! How did you learn your skills? I noticed you use PICAXE too, you're seriously talented, just like Janis Joplin (yes I'm a fan of her!). Keep em comin'!
This was so cool to watch! And surprisingly complex, internally! Tomy really did make the coolest toys, didn’t they? Wow.
They were the best.
I'm always amazed by the level of mechanical ingenuity that 80s and 90s toys had.
Same here... One of the reasons I make these videos.
They're fantastic, overengineered, but done so exquisitely
Silicone spray works well on plastic drive trains like that. Doesn't mess up the gears like other lubricants.
That's what everyone says. I need to get some.
Randi Rain Look at the price in automotive part stores/Amazon , quite often it's cheaper to buy the cans from day/trade style stores as opposed to craft stores. Formulation tends to be the same regardless, also there's silicone grease available as well ( used in braking systems as a caliper/pin lubricant so might be listed as brake grease). Google translate with the camera function is your friend for foreign languages .
Randi you should be on the TH-cam fixers top ten! I love how resourceful you are and your troubleshooting is impeccable.
Wow, thank you!
Brilliant, never seen this Tomy product before. I really like the way you reproduce the broken gear. Cheers, Alan.
Thanks... Yeah, when this popped up on ebay I snatched it fast. Didn't even blink at the price, which wasn't cheap.
@@RandiRain I don't blame you, great score 👍👍
Love the brass flywheels they used in the design ! thank you for sharing with us.
Wow.....these things have unbelievable good built quality....new shit nowadays don't last so long...nice item that's why I like and collect these cool stuff
Yep, everything is disposable now.
Thanks for all the work you do, it’s appreciated!
My pleasure!
Loving these videos. Fun, informative and kinda wholesome.
Glad you are liking them.
So much fun! Thanks for sharing this with us!
I LOVE the aesthetic of this piece. The people are designed so gorgeously with that Japanese 80s design sensibility (especially in the manual). You're very patient with the detailing and pieces Randi. I'm not prone to rage, but the fiddliness of these pieces is exactly what would make me throw it across the room. Great to see you playing with your mate. He's some fine manly eye-candy *swoons*.
Yeah, it does look very cool and is very fun and unique. George is one of my best friends. He's very fun to be around. He's has a wife though, but she is a good friend as well, and very fun. George will like your comment.
LOL. It's kind of nice to see someone you admire get just as out of breath as you would running in place.
That looked exhausting! Thanks for the videos. Tom
Again, Tomy hits it out of the park when it comes to games that look like they would be no big deal, but turn out to solidly hit the competitive button. Really cool idea, and great game. It's like an exhausting version of their egg game - equally demanding of a win.
If you want a small silicone/teflon spray, I bet a hobby store will have something for the nylon gears in RC stuff that is guaranteed safe. TriFlow is one brand we used to use at Toys By Roy, even though it had a different name at the time.
This might be the coolest Tomy toy yet!
George and I laughed and laughed... and we might not have been totally sober.
@@RandiRain Shocking. . .
It was funny as hell though.
Another great video thanks for sharing this, never new it existed before now :)
Thank you.
I can absolutely relate to springs jumping out. I did a reshell to my Nintendo DSi and the L and R buttons are spring-loaded.
This was an unusually springy Tomy game.
I havent laughed like that in months! Great video, Randi! I wanna be George.....
We had a blast playing the game.
"STOP DOING THAT! STOP THAT!" ahhh that was very funny!!
i love these videos - so cool to see how old toys worked (and broke). The complexity amazes me for toys. I think I've watched most of your videos at this point
Thank you.
This is such a cool game! Glad you got it working!
A photo finish! Great video.
Thank you! Nobody beats me on a Tomy game.
You have got me really looking at Tomy lately so now I have acquired some of my own from eBay. Very cool. Thank you.
Uh oh, you got the fever.
I'd be hooking that player actuator to your " Thingy Pusher "geared linear motor system design to cheat my way to victory! The track's plastic belt drive system looks like a miniature to the one used on the Omnibot 2000's motorized serving tray. Thanks For Sharing and Keep Up The Great Work.
That's what I thought. It might be the same belt. Made out of the same stuff, a soft plastic.
@@RandiRain Thought So.🤓 Good Luck With The Investigation.👍
That is so funny. Reminds me of my Jump Jocky but way more energetic 😂😂😂
Had to look up Jump Jockey... That's a fun game. Might have to look for one.
@@RandiRain good luck finding one over there the fairly difficult to find and quite expensive over here in the UK but they really are great fun might have to get mine out again 😁🎠
Could you post links to your videos on making gears? Loved the video, you're always a fun genius to watch in action.
I do it on several videos, but here is one just on gears...
th-cam.com/video/XYy2sSV00aA/w-d-xo.html
Lot of work on that with all those pieces. Pretty neat I'd say.
Best YT video eva perhaps?!?
Thanks
This was fun to watch!!!
You need three hands to get this back together!
That would help.
What an awesome game, I'm sure my kid would love it. I probably wouldn't ;)
It nearly killed me.
Hi Randi!
Would it be possible, when you are working on an item that has a gear train, to apply a lower voltage to the drive motor, so we can see how the gears, moving slowly, interact? Or would the motor only want to run at the designed speed, causing the gears to fly out of position if the assembly is not secured together?
I don't see why not, at least most of the time. That's very interesting. Glad you said something, because I wouldn't have ever thought of that. That's not how my mind works. But yeah... You want a better look at the mechanisms... You got it.
Wow, what build quality! Also, the toy was nice.
Funny
I don't know who this Tomy guy was, one thing is sure, he was a mastermind
Started in 1924, so whoever he is, he's pretty old.
I like to think that it's the same company as the Mayonnaise Tomy. That would be a great product lineup.
o.O ! Ever so... weird ? And design and sell this kind of 'little miracle' in 1993, that was courageous...
Very nice.🤩... cool game too enjoyed the video
Thank you 🤗
Where do you find these games? Thank you for a great video.
Ebay of course.
The top says course, mode and player.
The word that starts with a kind of 7 figure says player.
The word that starts with a kind of backward square C says course
and finally that starts with a kind of t crossed with a earo simbol says mode
The vertical word in red says "auto"
I'm from the UK and my partner is Japanese I studied the Katakana simbol for a while that's how I identified the words. Funny, they use this lettering for all languages outside of Japan and those words are English so it seems almost like they were thinking in English but wrote it in Japanese 🤔🤔🤔
That's awesome. Thank you very much.
That makes sense. That would be playing against the machine.
That makes sense that they would write like that, because there are English words used. That's how I know it's called Full Marathon. It says it. So, that makes sense, and might have to do with how worldly their market was at the time.
Really cool piece of engineering. Does remind a bit a car gearbox doesn't it ? Awesome channel by the way :)
Thank you
One of the coolest and a bit bizarre TOMY games yet. Where did you find it?
Ebay of course.
that's awesome! Love it!
It's pretty fun.
Translation for the settings:
コース = course
モード = mode
プレイヤー = player
オート = auto
(Actually, those are all just English words written phonetically in Japanese characters.)
Cool, thanks.
This is amazing, and I love all these tomy games. However my favourite one you did has no motors, belts, gears or batteries! Screwball scramble!
Run Yourself Ragged is what I prefer.
Running on the spot like Wi fit. Could also double as a shakeweight 😂
That's true.
you are the best! I wish I lived next door to you and I'd bring you a 12-pack of whatever the heck you want to drink while I watch you work.
Any kind of Mexican beer.
Guess you could say it’s “Pre-Wii” 😋
Pre-wii works.
👍👍👍 saludos España
I've laughed a lot at the end of the video 😂😂😂
So did we...
"Yes your honor, the prosecution will now produce evidence of the moment of George's early demise by stroke!" 22:20
If I make it... With my asthma, I was fighting to breathe.
Try out Google Lens on android (probably also iphone) for translating the manual, would probably work a treat
I didn't find any good ones that were free.
@@RandiRain Google lens should be free, it basically does live translation of text through your camera. I use it for foreign manuals a lot play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.ar.lens&hl=nl
Also Google translate and Microsoft translate are free and have a live camera mode.
Before the Wii ever Wii'd. LOL
I knew you could beat him ! Lol !
Piece of cake.
Randi, you seem like such an amazing person.
Is it okay for me to just hug you through the screen?
Umm... You wearing a mask? I've spent a lifetime of doing crazy things and breathing in sawdust, pigments, and chemicals... But sure. Go ahead. It's a pleasure to meet you. Since doing these videos, I've actually met several people that I really like and chat with them all the time.
I'm surprised you didn't cast two or three gears and replace both. Its probably a common failure point on this toy.
I keep the molds just for that reason.
Jeez, do you need hearing protection to play this game? :-D
It's a little loud. I'll go back in some time and try to quiet it, but not looking forward to it.
