6:53 Vic Elford what a legend just passed guys. He wrote some great racing hand books and is survived by his loving wife, who still sells some of the memorabilia and pictures they collected during Vic’s life. Love these old German videos and the calm announcers 1971 wow.
There was no TH-cam, there were only 1-2 TV channels at that time in European countries, no social media, no Netflix/HBO etc. So ofc people would go to the races in mass Also, I've been to the Nordschleife ADAC 24h in 2018. And I can tell you, live coverage of the races these days is just really good. You see much more of how the race unfolds. Good commentary adds to the excitement too. In short, it's almost easier/better to watch the race at home these days.
@dukeallen432 please don't say b.s think twice before you any kind of crap like this... Porsche it's not like ferrari's they put the same engine since the beginning of their career.
At 2:35 you see were the sudschleife starts. To bad they didn't use it too. Wish they had used it more, maybe then it wouldn't have parts of it used for public roads. The rest is neglected or completely abandoned. ;(

Because of a simple couple of reasons: The 908/2 and 908/3 were better than the 917 K on tracks such as Nordschleife and Targa Florio so the factory team decided they would be better. 908/2 and 908/3 were cars built especially for these tracks (908/3 won Targa Florio 1970 at its debut), so they were the natural choice. And also because at the time the rules didn't state that you would need to run the same car for the entire year. You would enter as a team, but you could run anything you wanted to as teams had to submit their entries for each individual race rather than for the full season. For instance, in 1969 Porsche originally entered the Nordschleife race with the first 917 they were developing at the time, but during practice sessions the drivers decided not to use it for the rest of the weekend because it was too dangerous and for the race they went back to the older 907s and 908s instead.
This comes 8 year later, but i was interested also about location of these humps. Littlebit of google and found out that they're at old version of Döttinger höhe. :)

Seeing this kind of thing makes feelings "bubble up" in me too.
Schöne alte Zeit. 😍 🔥🏁

Vic Elford was a real class act. I was fortunate enough to meet him a few times in the late 90s at Road America Skip Barber race weekends.

I will argue, the greatest group of drivers and sports cars ever!!
And, in the case of Rolf Stommelen, one of the most UNDERRATED drivers ever! 🏁🇩🇪
And at 2:47 at the top of the screen you see were the sudschleife rejoins the main circuit.

go back another 50 years from 1971. 1970`s was the pinnacle of motorsport, rough raw and ready!
Classic!
I can't believe how many people are there. Amazing.
Excellent!...Thank you... : )
I get serious feelings of nostalgia when I see the "Esso" signage. It makes me think "Europe" for some reason.
Que bom corrida antiga amei

Wow these crowds were huge! Sadly more then F1 and WEC combined these days it would seem.
Well the track was 14km long so there was more space

Guess what race was more exciting to watch. 😉
thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Master Pedro Rodríguez from México!
The sounds in the video are coming from the 1968 LP "Sounds of the Nürburgring" heard, that there might be a CD-Version in 2014.
I love Germany 🇩🇪 😍 ❤ 💕 ♥
Oh how I would love to go to a schnell imbiss stand from that era. Bratwurst and pomme frits
epoca de ouro do automobilismo
Great music LP33, great sound AR 33 !

Porsche ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Today’s Porsches are same as any other car. Plastic computers owned by manufacturers. And numb driving.

Cool
great footage!
english subtitles would be amazing...
Riiiight. Ethnocentric. How bout you learn German.
@@dukeallen432 How about you learn some manners.
F1 Pole that year was 7:20:100
Is the same track as today? I mean, the mtres
@@pabloperez4063No, the old south curve was replaced by the first version of the modern F1 circuit in 1983.
Thx!!! :-)

Compared to today the track is almost unrecognisable.

Why did Porsche 917 (Championship SP leader) be absent ?
.
Because of a simple couple of reasons:

Vic Elford and Gerard Larrousse Porsche 908/3.
Larrousse, Pescarolo,
I saw Leo Kinnunen at Silverstone in the early seventies at a interserie event, his Porsche clocked 220 MPH down the Hanger Straight.
I don't know German but I know what a flat 12 sounds like so mabey I do know German
Lousy road conditions and tyres not able to cope with the power
