im 17 years old ..nd i love classic rock ....is just the best music in the entire world....my favorite bands are GFR, CCR, LED ZEPPELIN, DEEP PURPLE, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, QUEEN, ROLLING STONES AND SOME OTHERS...but i dnt remember now....!!!...
wow first time I've ever heard and see these guys, holy shit. I've got a tons of respect for them now! WOW amazing live performance!!!! whoever that guitarist is he's got soul lots of it.
The New York Daily News' Nationwide Readers' Poll for 1971. Tens of thousands of votes were cast from every state in the nation. Whe the final score was tallied, Grand Funk Railroad had garnered a whopping 75% of the total vote as "Best Rock Group In The U.S." Left to split up the remaining 25% were: 2 Creedence Clearwater, 3. Jackson Five, 4. Led Zeppelin, 5. Three Dog Night, 6. The Who, 7. Sly, 8. Santana, 9.Chicago, and 10.Ten Years After!
This video sounds very much like the version on the original Grand Funk Live album. Absolutely great jam !!! This song sealed me as a hard rocker for life. That guitar solo in the middle has an absolutely fantastic sound!
GFR garage band juggernaut. Don Brewer was one of the most under rated drummers in rock. Fast, powerful, and funky. He and Mark Farner were the ultimate vocal tandem in rock ever.
As with all my GFRxR videos, there is a link to a petition above in blue to induct GFRxR into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. It only takes seconds to sign it. Thanks Funk Fans!
Saw them last night at Caesars Windsor (8/29/09) and was I glad they played Inside looking Out, my favorite from Grand Funk Live. First time i've seen them live, I was too young in 70-72. They did a great job, Mel gave the best best bass performance I've heard in a concert in years. Don was clearly the outgoing leader and did a good job. The singer was adequate and the guitarist did a good job (learned Mark's cords well). Good, hard driving, no frills hard rock.
I just read that...amazing,no wonder i have never been there.also did not know that Bowie told them to stick it.hell yea good for him.GFR was and still is a legend they combine rock n roll with real soul and have fun doing it,lots of energy there double live album called "Caught in the Act " is a master peice and a must have.the song closer to home was once played on the deck of a aircraft carrier on its way home from Vietnam
Keep rockin' us T.J. The legendary band in their prime! My information about this video is that it's not from November '69, but from mid May 1970 (maybe 15). Most probably, they played at least one more song (Into The Sun) that day at the Hershey studios, that I think it was scheduled to be included in the Red remastered cd as a bonus track, something that never happened... If someone has more info about it, please, let us know...
The Huffington Post just wrote an article about Grand Funk being blackballed by The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Go to their site & search: How lame is The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame?
Yeah now Grand Funk Railroad is a Heavy - Power Trio, that all three players are way out of the average talent zone! If you don't have a good stereo system- put on a good pair of headphones to get into Mel Schocker's fantasrtic Bass work, slides-- runs-- and his talent of holding notes , let loose with a Bass run, and just holding a single note. Another guy that never got the fame he deserved --- like all of them !
Hey, I wrote that piece in the Huff Post. By the way, I do a all parts cover of I'm your Captain right here on youtube. Seach Nelson Montana Grand Funk Check it out and leave a comment if you get a chance. Thanks.
Rock n Roll hall of fame's a joke . Stop whining. Who cares if some groups ain't in there. R n R hall is waist of space and being inducted is meaningless. Later.

What a great video - No Doubt - this is the real GFR - anything else or any other configuration just doesn't cut it.
Saw Farmer in San Antonio in 2000. The concert rocked -- short hair 'n' all!

One of America's best bands. Mean Mistreater, Into The Sun, so many great songs.

Luvvv It!
These guys were GREAT when they were truly TOGETHER!
Pack-the-Funk TJ!
Pure Rock, no lights, effects, weaving hands, firewoks etc.... just music made by one of the greatest power trios.

Yeah, my kid's 16 now, and I'm afraid I've corrupted him completely. High-five for you, too though, dude! They call it "classic" rock for a reason...

My 14-year-old boy heard this (and a few other classics) for the first time a few summers ago. Converted him from the rap crap...
Used to have this on my "HarLip Productions" mp3eight track.
Well put Barber.
@iguisard
Mark Farner of Flint, Michigan
And Grandmaster Flash.
Their Red album defined an era
some rapers.modona, etc are in the ROCK-N-ROLL hall of fame, but this band is not?
No one has commented in 10yrs? What's happening!
somone once described this as pure sexual energy
i cant beleive Grand Funk is not in the rock n roll hall of fame,, Deep Purple, Doobie brothers,, but they RR hall fame inducted Randy Newman? WTF?

@PackedFunk They are so lame that they have also ignored groups like Emerson, Lake and Palmer, the pioneers of progressive rock.
Do I hear a little HUSH?
