What is up with TH-cam I was not notified of the new video! You have the coolest mods! Maybe next time I restore a computer I'll then send it to you for modding! 😉 And I'm jealous you got your own song! Great video as usual Peter! Oh and PS some jokes are so bad they're funny; the crickets chirping / bombing expression was priceless!
Great video Peter! Wonderful deep dive into the Thompson MO5 and the accessories you can have and build for it! Very cool!
Thanks Matt, there is really a huge community around the Thomson range of systems here in France. They improve the devices that they design (and were designed back in the day) constantly which makes the Thomson a great computer to play around with ;)
LOL that joke was terrible but I still laughed! Glad you can get the full use out of the system. Enjoyed the episode.
Thanks, the Thomson is a good system, it really has some great games but it was lacking a lot not being able to play with a joystick. All that's fixed now. You can tell that I came up with the joke myself, can't you?
Awesome video! 😃😃😃
Thanks Amy, but we both know that the song was the best bit ;)
@@8bitsinthebasement No! Whole thing! 😃
@@8bitsinthebasement Agreed, awesome video with the added bonus of Taylor and Amy singing on your computer. Very cool!
Fantastic video!! Now you have a great and complete M05!! Well have to see if I can get those gerber files. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Rudy, it's nice to be able to hook a joystick up to the system, not to mention the improved music and voice on a few games ;)
Always interesting to see all the incompatible computers of the '80s
There were so, so many of them. That's what makes all this so interesting ;)
I like a lot the way you show all issues from building to using the board, are the schematics or gerblers available in any place?
Hi viditibi, you can find most everything at dcmoto.free.fr. The schematics you'll find here dcmoto.free.fr/bricolage/sx90-2018/index.html and the gerbers forum.system-cfg.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=9364&start=33. Thanks for watching ;)
@@8bitsinthebasement thank you very much !
Another great video! That looks like a fun gaming computer.
It doesn't have a huge library of games available for it (only about 200, I think) but some of them are real gems. It's a lot more useable with two joystick ports on the back of it now. Glad you liked the video Ken ;)
Excellent, très bonne vidéo, j'espère que tu nous fera un programme sur le MO5
I’m confused to what the sound portion of the cartridge does. Does this computer not have a sound system built into it?
@Old Guy Thanks for the explanation. And I forgot to mention that Taylor and Amy's song was great. I'll have to remember to tell them that in the comments of their next video :)
Hi Brett, Old Guy beat me to the punch on the answer, and he's 100% right. The sound portion of the module adds 6 bit sound using a simple DAC to the 1 bit sound that the MO5 has "built in" for improved music and digitised voice in games. There was some speach software available for it too. Most of the later TO series of Thomson computers had the Sound and joystick module built into the motherboard. I'm not sure if the unit was produced as an after thought for the MO range as only a handful of games used it.
Using it to play music and songs (and even motion video with sound) is a new feature. Any mp3 file can be converted to work with it but the SDdrive is needed to send the file to the MO5 at a high enough bitrate.
They did a fantastic job, didn't they? Even with the track that they recorded converted to really low 8 bit quality and played using an old 8 bit computer through a cheap TV they still sounded great ;) Thanks for watching Brett
how i get the drive adapter for games? to play games off sd card
Mark, I'm so sorry, I saw your comment on another video and I instantly thought of this one and that I had never answered it. What you need to do is go here forum.system-cfg.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9196 You'll have to use Google translate as the whole thing is in French. How to buy is explained here but it goes more or less like this; Once you've decided what you'd like to buy you leave a message for Daniel in the forum saying what you want and that you live in the UK (don't give your full address here). You can leave your message in English. Daniel will get back to you with the total cost of the things you want and P+P to the UK. You can then pay him through Paypal and use Paypal's private messaging to give your full address. The items you want are the SDDRIVE and the MINIBUS you can also buy an SDcard loaded with loads of progams for the MO5 if you want. Again I'm sorry that I didn't answer you sooner. Happy new year ;)
I love the jokes. Not so much my children who I promptly inflict them on.
My kids aren't huge fans of my jokes either, I just can't figure out why. We didn't have good jokes like that back in my day. I blame television. Thanks for watching ;)
✨👍
