@@JawlessPaul I do have a question though. Say I take an ares attack boon. And that's my only Ares boon. And swap it for an Aphrodite attack. Is Ares still in my pool?
@@Sitania I've had gods comment on boons I removed, so I'm guessing they're still in the pool (e.g. "I see my brother ares got to you already" when I deleted the doom effect)
That tip about how there's four gods in each run's pool is so helpful. Is there a video that lays out all those sorts of mechanics new players might've missed?
I used to be the same way. Something that works for me is choosing god boons for a specific duo boon, and taking the coin purse after asphodel, works great in 30+ heat. Earlier duo boons feel great, and the gold feels really impactful when you’re trying to shore up specific build weaknesses in the Elysium and Styx shops. Just my two cents, take it as you will, in the end, your own best play style may or not be someone else’s.
Got the game recently and your talk about the butterfly makes absolute sense, like I got it fairly early and I by playing around it I reached Hades way faster than I thought I would, even beating him once
well i just abused the charged shot hammer upgrade on the shield and somehow won was also close with a damage burst build with twin fists, getting phase 2 hades down to half health, but that one sadly failed the damage burst build was: twin fists, support fire, zeus attack boon, jolt, zeus + demeter duo boon to keep the jolt around, and also zeus cast boon (and also curse of vengeance because i'm bad and get hit a decent bit)
Another note with Poseidon's keepsake is this change in the October 13 patch: "Huge Catch (Poseidon): Conch Shell Keepsake now works as a prerequisite for this to be offered"
I can see everyone else saying this but I'll say it to. I have done 30ish runs, I've beaten the final boss 5 times, and I did not know about the 4 gods per run. Super good to know, all your videos are both helpful and entertaining.
one thing I feel was missing is that sometimes, when your wear a god-forcing keepsake from Asphodel up, the game may rqrely decide to force Hermes first, and only after the chosen god. If you get extremely unlucky this can cause the "forced" god to not appear at all (it happened once to me, probably also due to me avoiding hammers for a while, which are also forced by the game and can eat up exit slots)
This happened to me like 3 times in the past few days. Its so annoying especially because I like to put Athena keepsake on in Asphodel so I can get her dash for the witches, and when I don’t get her at all it really screws up my run.
Just started playing Hades again after a long break from before 1.0. I’m really liking Pom blossom. I’ll throw it on in Asphodel and/or Elysium and not have to worry about grabbing any poms from room rewards for basically the entire run; it’s really great for freeing me up to take more boons, health, etc.
Skull Earring: Is better than it looks. Since DD returns you at 50% HP you are already fairly close to the threshold again. I also cannot overstate how well this combos with Dionysus. Hangover has few %damage scaling opportunities and on top of that Positive Outlook works very nicely with this keepsake. Pierced Butterfly: I find this to be a trap. It slows down runs, prevents you from shaping your run and at the end of it, you're looking at perhaps 30-40% damage for your troubles. It's easy to just shape your run and then slap on Earring or Distant Memory for the last portion and get a very comparable damage buff. Shattered Shackle: This can make it much easier to beat Charon in Tartarus, which can be huge. Besides that it is also a safety net. When you don't yet have rerolls and RNG decides not to give you an attack boon.. well guess what, Sisyphus got you covered. Black Shawl: Notably both bonus can apply together. It does have one niche use with a Phalanx Shot+Parting Shot build. To my knowledge Phalanx shot, at least on hera bow, is always considered a backstab. Outside of that exact scenario Shawl is still pretty terrible though. Finally on Poseidon for farming runs: Note that Ocean's Bounty only works on room rewards while chaos boons work on Throves, Purchased Gems/Darkness & Bouldy drops as well. This is all very subjective ofc and your millage may vary.
yeah i would probably use the earring only when i reach elysium, i'm really bad at both the heroes and hades i can't even get the butterfly, thanatos is staying the hell away from the house and rarely appearing in runs (even then i mostly die because the run was already going poorly) shackle is pretty much tartarus only, by the end of it i already got a bunch of boons
Hunting Blades and Ice Wine are amazing for heavy cast focus (last boss, ice wine is a bit slow but very very safe). Hunting Blades esepcially is absolutely bonkers if you pair it with the ares legendary that increases damage of consecutive blade hits. If you can somehow also get Mirage Shot ontop of these, then that run is gg. Sweet Nectar is amazing if you can get it early enough (at least before elysium) for any special/attack build. Sea Storm also has some potential with certain poesidon/zeus builds, but require a lot to really get going. I'm sure there are other good duo boons, but for the duos themselves to be the most effective, these are the ones I have found to be most effective after many hours and many high heat clears.
Paul I am new to this game and your videos have been a tremendous help. I have been playing for a couple days now and have made it to the boss of the third map pretty regularly.
I like skull earring with positive outlook and maybe the other dyonisus boon that heal me back to mid health every room. Considering your death defiance also put you close to the health threshold it overall will end up boosting your damage for most of the fight so it can be really good especially if you rely on curse damage like doom, hangover or thunder as it directly effects those. (also helps with cast)
First off, love your videos; thank you so much for taking the time to make them. For my runs, I usually start off with Athena's keepsake to get Divine Dash, switch to the coin purse in asphodel, then have lucky tooth from elysium on. Have been trying to beat the game faster though, so maybe I should try out a run with the plume!
I learnt the 4 god limit when I went for an all gods invitation run and was 1 short with Demeter left for a deliberate dud run(for the story ofc). I also suspected something along those lines after my 40~50th run.
Great content! I'm finding myself trying to not use a god keepsake for the first biome since I am always playing the same builds. Letting the game randomize my first couple boons to force me to try other things.
I've had to start doing this myself. I really enjoy Zeus/Posidon combo and was finding myself picking one of theirs almost every run. It's fun to use one of the "all in" keepsakes if you really want to challenge yourself to work with what you're given.
@@robbiegeegee Thats actually the exact combo that I was using too much (plus demeter). Posidon cast is just so good for dealing big AOE damage. And Zeus is just so good with all the multi-hit weapons and scales extremely well with jolted and double strike.

If you already have four gods in the pool, will wearing a keepsake add a "fifth slot"? Also, if for example Poseidon was shown but you never take it, is Poseidon considered to be in the pool? Thanks for the vid!
You can force gods by equipping their keepsake but obviously that means you'll have a lower chance at getting the others since it adds one to the pool. Also if you don't take a god it isn't added to the pool. Thats the only reason fated authority even remotely usable
For that first question yes it does. I've done runs where I've tried to get Family Favorite as high as possible and was able to push it up to 30%. Privileged Status is still better since 2 curses are really easy to apply but you can have up to 6 gods in the pool
Not sure how easy it is to "avoid" having gods in the pool. You can definitely avoid adding a god if it is only offered in a shop, and yes, you can get more gods added to the pool with a keepsake.
Wow I did not know that you lost the benefit of the Pierced Butterfly after you've unequipped it. So many runs where I started off in Tartarus with the Pierced Butterfly on to rack up some bonus damage and than switch to a different keepsake for Asphodel, thinking I would keep the damage bonus... Thanks for the clarification!
I dont have much experience in the game, but unlocked some of the keepsakes and was working on getting them to 3 stars when I thought which ones should I prioritize. Thanks for the info :)
Hi, I just found your channel, what other video do you talk about the gods specificly? I didn't see anything in the description, or i-card popup. Thanks
Great vid. I've been playing since early access but never knew about the sort of cap on the different gods u can get. Makes sense now that I think about it at how a lot of runs I would just never get certain gods to show up. Also how do u get those cute little icons on the keepsakes?
I don't use it much actually, but if you really want to buff your cast, attack or special chaos keepsake is the way to go! It doesn't guarantee it shows up though
I love Skull Earring! When I'm going for specific builds, I tend to use god keepsakes for the first one or two floors - at that point, Pierced Butterfly is no longer worth it. If I have 2 or 3 Death Defiance by the time I reach Styx and I feel confident in my build, I'll throw on Skull Earring. Sure, it won't always be active, but I don't get hit very often. So I'm either above 30% and doing well enough to survive, or I'm below 30% and dishing out more damage when I'm closer to death. (Not to mention, that's 30% of each death defiance, in which you're often 1 hit away from being within 30% per DD anyway). I see it as a nice tradeoff. Either you can use Pierced Butterfly without boon control, or you have boon control but you only get your damage boost at 30% health per DD. I think it sounds worse on paper than it actually is.
what does it mean when you fulfill the relationship with the keepsake giver? I've noticed that some texts and new icon pops up in the keepsake description but i don't know if it do some boost in the effect
Sisyphus keepsake just feels like the "fuck it, good for a laugh" type item you put on when you want to see if you can get away with doing a run without any boons. Boons are too useful NOT to pick up, so that's the only reason I can see picking it.
so today i talked to hades and he said i could start using companions on him then a screen popped up saying unlocked companions vs hades. i thought you could only use skelly/bouldy is this new or somthing
The most interesting & informative part of this guide was learning that there are only 4 gods that are shown per run. I noticed there was definitely seeding, like for example if you give up and go back to your last save the run will be very similar if not exactly the same for at least the 1st few rooms. I only thought that if you have a certain god's boon already equipped that you have a higher chance of seeing that god again? Not sure if that is still accurate as well, or if that was wrong entirely? Good to know about the 4 god thing though, does that include boons in Charon shops as well? or are those separate and we're just talking about a limit of 4 natural gods for rooms only? Also if you do force a god that isn't 1 of the natural 4, does that mean the god you forced takes the place of 1 of those 4? or do you now just have 5+ gods that show up (original 4 + whoever you forced)?
If you see a deity in a shop but you do not pick it up it will not be added to the pool. It's a bit confusing but basically if you already have 4 deities that you have found there is no way you will find that 5th that you need unless you wear the god's keepsake. 😊
@@JawlessPaul awesome thanks for the great information! Just started playing Hades about a week ago and already loving it! Your videos have definitely been a huge help along the way, keep it up! 👍
If you were to keep a God’s keepsake equipped (not that you’d want to) would the “+20% increased Rarity” still be in effect or is it ONLY for that first Boon of theirs you find?
Any that you find from them will be a higher chance of rarity. Denoted by "her blessings have..." Instead of what would otherwise say "that blessing has..."
Hi i've got a question very quick, i don't know how to give Ambrosia to gods, i gave one to Ares and Poseidon because i could do it but i don't know how. I gave every nectars i could to Zeux and Artemis but i still cannot give them Ambrosia, how can i do it ?
Look in the codex, some times a person will have a lock on their hearts. It just means you need to talk to them more before you can give more gifts. Or sometimes progress the story, talk to other gods, ect. Also I don't think you can gift gods if they appear in the shop.
@@JawlessPaul Yeah thanks, I've managed to do it ahah, btw your videos presenting the weapons are very helpful ! I'm still struggling with some of them because they're not leveled enough but it's fine i gues ( i'm not very good in english sorry if it's hard to understand sometimes )
Yo, can you please let me know what music you used in this video. I like it a lot and I would like to listen to it while I'm working! (PS- I'm also a teacher and I'll sometimes play instrumental music for my students while we work, so your response would be immensely appreciated!)
I think it's from stream beats TH-cam channel. I also use some video game music. Supergiant games has great soundtracks. Katana Zero probably has my fav soundtrack
I'm new to the game and really never noticed this game mechanic when I was playing through on steam... I was just giving all my gifts to the boat man... hoping he'd let me cheat... Mentioning/repeating where these things come from helps... Having to cross reference a video to find where a gift comes from is kinda rough.
Let's say a room has 2 exits, one reward being an Ares rune and the other being not an Ares rune. If you don't take the Ares rune, does he still occupy one of the 4 gods whose runes are available to you?
My understanding is that so long as you don't accept a god's boon, they won't be added to the god pool. So, if you don't want to see any Ares boons then you can skip it or change it into something else with fated authority. What I'm curious about is if you take a god's boon and then sell it or get rid of it, will the god still be in the god pool?
I guess it doesn't really occupy my thoughts too much. I've found that regardless of what gods are in the pool I just choose the keepsake I need for the duo I want 😂
Do the god's keepsakes refresh after each biome? Let's say I equip Zeus for Tartarus. Does the Zeus keepsake refresh when it's "the next boon you find will be from Zeus" when I enter asphodel?
Rare crop effects 1 (or more, depending on rarity) of your boons the moment you pick up the rare crop boon. It does not affect all boons, and it definitely doesn't affect boons that you get in the future.
I think you underestimate black shawl a bit honestly. 60% damage striking a foe from behind in a room fight on the first hit and then 30% if you stay on their back is pretty powerful. Think of bow shots, bull rushes, guan yu throws, etc. It might not be the best later on but for tartarus/asphodel it can clear rooms out much faster and save you a lot of time for Elysium. Besides, you don't really need a defensive keepsake for those areas once you are comfortable with the game. All that said shaping the run with god keepsakes early is still stronger overall imo but not nearly as interesting a way to play. Distant memory though, more like distant meme
My own brand of scrubbiness involves stacking damage resistance through various means like sticking casts, Aphrodite's curse, Aphrodite's damage resistance boon, and Athena's damage resistance boon. Having Hades poke me for 20 damage with 300++ life is pretty faceroll. 8D
funny thing is if you manage to get to Styx with only three gods boons, there's a strong chance Charon will offer a god you haven't seen the entire run, which is annoying to say the least. that's the biggest pitfall for a really focused build. also I gotta say I cannot for the life of me use the Pierced Butterfly. I take damage in almost every room no matter how good my build is, there's just too many enemies that can poke me before I can do anything and it stuns me that anyone can manage even 10% on the Butterfly. I'm sure it's possible to do Theseus/Asterius without taking damage, but 95% of Hades players can't do it. so I don't really think the Pierced Butterfly is S tier. and you will not get any additional percentage in Styx. between the traps and the poison and the bothers and the serpentstone lasers, lol.

It is quite nice when you start getting that extra damage! :)
what does it mean when you fulfill the relationship with the keepsake giver? I've noticed that some texts and new icon pops up in the keepsake description but i don't know if it do some boost in the effect
It doesn't affect their keepsake, it's just an indicator letting you know that you maxed it out.
Sisyphus keepsake just feels like the "fuck it, good for a laugh" type item you put on when you want to see if you can get away with doing a run without any boons. Boons are too useful NOT to pick up, so that's the only reason I can see picking it.
Indeed!
so today i talked to hades and he said i could start using companions on him then a screen popped up saying unlocked companions vs hades. i thought you could only use skelly/bouldy is this new or somthing
It is new with the 1.0 update
I haven't gotten this yet 😥
Yes, I believe the rarity bonus stays active.
QQ: how quick of an encounter clear is considered quick wrt Hermes' keepsake
It varies! It's different from regular rooms to champ rooms. Elysium gives you more time etc. Hard to quantify it.
It has a timer in each room. Just beolw the keepsake icon on the left of the screen.
I just won my very second win, at 10 heat and I still havent unlocked a single super keep sake or how they are called :(
It takes a LOT of talking and you have to gift a lot of nectar and ambrosia.
Codex is very helpful here!
@@JawlessPaul Appreciate your answer! I will check them all out and thanks a ton!
Haha, I can't figure out whether this is a comment thanking me for the video, or criticizing me for making the video 🤣
I always pick Athena for the deflect and then switch to something else.
It's always nice having her in the god pool!
@@solittleusernames This is my question as well. If you can switch out your complement of gods mid-run, that'd be huge
I guess it doesn't really occupy my thoughts too much. I've found that regardless of what gods are in the pool I just choose the keepsake I need for the duo I want 😂
To be honest, I don't know, and it's a little painful to try and test 😂 let me know what you find out! 🤣
Do the god's keepsakes refresh after each biome? Let's say I equip Zeus for Tartarus. Does the Zeus keepsake refresh when it's "the next boon you find will be from Zeus" when I enter asphodel?
Nope. It only work at the beginning of Tartarus.
1 charge per run for god keepsakes
Only one biome, as Hao said. However, the rarity bonus stays active I believe.
Gotta pet Cerberus bro
Is a Deity added to the pool of 4 just by being available in the shop or as an option on a door, or do I have to actually get the boon?
It's added to the pool if you take the deity
I want those chibi god heads into my cellphone gifs. how do i do that?
I want that too!
Suggestion: Add link to your diety guid in the video where you mention it. Peple are lazy, and you can get some extra view.
Done! Thanks for the suggestion!
If I pick up a boon after I get rare crop does it benefit from the effect?
Rare crop effects 1 (or more, depending on rarity) of your boons the moment you pick up the rare crop boon. It does not affect all boons, and it definitely doesn't affect boons that you get in the future.
@@peace_maybenot lame
It only has a chance to affect the boons you are wearing when you pick it up.
It's 20% though, so 40% for first hit and 20% bonus thereafter. It's a fair point. Maybe I find it too boring... 😂
@@JawlessPaul oh, they nerfed it. ;(
How do you get the stickers for your keepsake
You max out your relationship with that person/god with nectar and ambrosia
How good is the Pom keepsake from Persphone?
It's pretty good! But you have to have a build that does well with poms (lightning, doom, hangover, cast damage)
Athena also gives deflect dash AKA easy mode lmao. I didn’t feel good at this game until I could actually beat Hades without it 😂
My own brand of scrubbiness involves stacking damage resistance through various means like sticking casts, Aphrodite's curse, Aphrodite's damage resistance boon, and Athena's damage resistance boon. Having Hades poke me for 20 damage with 300++ life is pretty faceroll. 8D
Fair!
Interesting idea!
What does hades and pelephone keepsake do?
I talk about it in the first keepsake video
funny thing is if you manage to get to Styx with only three gods boons, there's a strong chance Charon will offer a god you haven't seen the entire run, which is annoying to say the least. that's the biggest pitfall for a really focused build.
also I gotta say I cannot for the life of me use the Pierced Butterfly.
I really like it because it gives you another type of run to try. S tier for fun/uniqueness.
I have 45 hours of playtime, and I still can't beat my daddy :(
You'll get there! Have you tried Godmode? It might help you learn the fight a bit more
Feel like black shawl is better than C..
it very well could be much better for you! This is just my opinion/impression
Algorithm boostie
Thanks!
If i already have ocean bounty and then take eclipse afterwards, do the reward value stack?
They do!!
@@JawlessPaul thx paul! And btw great content
