Mass produced items, I get finding a dupe. A custom piece made by a single creator or small business; I’d like to see dupe offer a chance to negotiate a price or color, etc. from the originator. I also think dupe could offer surveys to ask how much someone is willing to pay so merchants see the threshold consumers are willing to buy for most popular dupe products.

You may dupe the look to attain some aesthetic, probably for social media, but you will not dupe texture, quality, performance, or craftmanship. Some items are priced for a reason beyond brand name.

Dupes are very different from fakes, knock offs and counterfeits. Dupes are just generic or similar alternatives and you know it. Fakes and counterfeits are trying to trick you into thinking its a known brand name product.

Copyright (the right to copy) is for written/visual works, trademarks are for brand names, etc. Patents are for products/inventions.
