  • In this video I install a new Bully Tailgate Net that I bought from Walmart, and then review it. If you're looking for a tailgate net or a tailgate replacement, this is a good place to start. I also give a tip in the video that will save you a bunch of time and headaches with installation if you follow it. The link above is the one reviewed, but on Amazon.
Here is an Amazon affiliate link for the Bully Tailgate Net where I get a small percentage if you use it to purchase a product:

And here is a link for the self tapping screws that will make installation much easier:

Sometimes I get asked why one might want a tailgate net on their truck. One reason is that it theoretically saves a very slight amount of gas mileage by changing the vehicle's drag co-efficient. Also, in my case, I had the tailgate off to work on it and wanted something in its place while it was off.
The following is part of Bully's description of this product:
Keep cargo in your bed from going free range, even with your tailgate down, or off. A Bully tailgate net improves gas mileage by reducing air drag, while performing most of the tasks of a regular tailgate. Made with the highest quality, heavy-duty, industrial reinforced PVC, with extra wide nylon edging to prevent stretching and fraying.
-Contains light to medium items in your bed while reducing air drag for improved gas mileage
    -Crafted from heavy-duty reinforced fabric
-With extra-wide nylon edging to prevent stretching and fraying
    -Easily installs in minutes
This is not a paid review.

I bought this exact net and could see that the instructions were leading me down exactly the same path you went down with remeasuring and likely redrilling. Decided to see if anyone had posted a video on it and came upon yours. Thanks for making this video and helping others avoid the issues you discovered!

Just need to make a stiffener on top...
If I use one , I'll cut a piece of 1/2 " PVC pipe , paint it black and zip tie it to the top of the net... It will help pull it all up even...

HOW did you drill the bottom hole on the 2nd way? I have hinge brackets that sit 1/4" above the rest

I drive my truck with a tailgate and a truck camper. So when I’m camping I drive my truck with no tailgate. Do you have to remove those brackets to install your tailgate again? That would be a deal breaker for me.

they updated the instructions, they now claim the screws are self tapping. they aren't and several of them broke even with pilot holes

Does this mean you have to completely remove the brackets to use the regular tailgate?

      Depends on your tailgate clearance/design.

Fitted this on my pickup today but the screws it came with were complete rubbish. I did 2 out of 6 fine but then the 3rd one snapped .
I'd recommend not using the supplied screws and finding your own that you know are decent quality. I took the first 2 back out , drilled out what was left of the snapped one , and then I used small hex head self tapping roofing screws with the rubbery washer for a tight fixing, and I put it behind my tailgate so I don't have to take it off if I want to use the pickups metal tailgate
