    Toby, this comment is not related to your latest video, but I wanted to let you know that your name and channel must have been in comments of "Diesel Creek" maybe a 100 times. Matt, TH-cam creator of Diesel Creek had a video upload this morning about a "Will it start" of a D2 CAT sitting since 1992. All of us viewers who watch your channel religiously mentioned how we knew all about that D2 without having ever touched one personally. So everyone was telling Matt to check out your channel or contact you if he has questions. Your following is huge Toby.
    Thanks for all you do.

    Toby - You're comment about the hood protecting the engine got me thinking about the back cover. Any thoughts to maybe adding Squatch designed welch plugs or maybe freeze (frost) plugs to cover the recessed bolts cups? I would think if sized correctly and with a couple love taps either of those plugs might seal tight (with sealant), stay in place and be below the surface of the cover. Great video as always. Hope to see you at the show on Saturday.

Mines not to bad. I was surprised you didn’t tape the pto groves to take the seals off but maybe there wasn’t enough room. Preparation H is going along good and can’t wait to see what’s next!

  • @Nyth63

    Downside of those old Farmalls without a live pto. My brother had an H that he was running a rear snowblower on. Hated that it stopped running whenever he pushed the clutch. He is a machinist so he figured a way to cut the left side pinion gear off the shaft and mount it on a hollow outer shaft with a motorcycle clutch outboard of the brake. Anytime he squeezed the hand lever, the tractor would stop because the diff not see any torque and would open spin that left shaft as if there was no traction.

  • @clydeschwartz

      @Squatch253 I am looking forward to see how you reseal the belly pump I always wanted to put a belly pump in my 1947 H Farmall I bought it from the original owner it's not in the best condition

  • @SuperMAZ007
    @SuperMAZ007 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The Farmall H assembly looks like something you could do almost blind folded. With the gear lock out, it reminds me how they did a similar thing with the Belarus 600 backhoes. They just made the plate so that you can't engage 5th gear even if it's present in the transmission. A simple trick that did work.

  • @aserta
    @aserta ปีที่แล้ว +8

    We have those holes on some of our tractors too (the family H has original paint so no touchy there) and our solution to that issue was to simply pour hard wax (the type you'd use to make castings with) and put a washer over as it cools, pushing it down so the wax bits unto it and holds it in place when it's done cooling. After, paint on top. No water issues with that after and it's very easy to remove. You just stick a screw driver in the washer hole and pry up.

    I've pulled cross pins out that are shaped like a shallow letter M, the spring pressure of the shifter keeps them in place and the welch plugs are only for element protection. ___---___
    The clutch bearings will get ya. Did an engine overhaul and replaced the clutch on a 656. Few years later, pto drive gear and bearing goes out, requires double split and machine shop work. Put it all back together, the next year the clutch drags (pilot brg) and the TA rattles in high (ta throw out brg). Fun times. Education is expensive! And have you done a gasket making video? I'm also curious about using a traditional gasket at all. Unless there is a clearance setting purpose, you could probably get away with "great stuff" and similar on the whole machine ( please set the tar temp to low and goose feathers only) . Thanks for sharing your projects 👍

    In going to make a suggestion on the bolt pockets that collect rain water, and I'm going to admit it's an expensive solution, Dow Corning RTV3145. It's a silicone sealant and adhesive that self vulcanized as it cures. I used it throughout my career. It's easy to work with, takes a few hours to cure, is water proof, has high wear resistance and when it is time to remove it? A machinists scribe is usually all you need to pry it out, some times needle nose pliers or some forceps but I've left it in for a day or a year and it keeps the ocean out well enough.

    What type of gear oil do you plan on using in x253? Anything special with the amplitourque? I recently bought a jetstar 3 super with a amplitourque.
