Perhaps the greatest gift music gives us, is the way our hearts connect with it-but the words within any given song can speak so differently one person to another.
“Shallow” was a song I finally connected with on a deeper level when I realized it was actually written about cell phones. Lady Gaga said, “I really believe in my heart that the unfortunate truth is that our cell phones are becoming reality. ...In this song we provide not just a conversation, but a very poignant statement. I wish not to be in the shallow, but I am. I wish to dive off the deep end, so watch me do it. I think this is something that speaks to many people, and during, I think, a very shallow time, it’s a chance for us to grab hands, dive into the water, and swim to the deepest depths that we can.”
This is a good reminder to us all to not get caught up in the things we see on our screens. There are opportunities all around us to TRULY connect in REAL ways, and deep connections are something every human being needs to survive and thrive. I’m especially grateful for music, and the wonderful ways in which it brings people together.

Stacy Steele I’ve thought the same thing so many times. That’s one of the things I love about these 2. My husband looks at our daughter the same way! They rode horses together non singing. Our daughter is now a veterinarian ! Love a good relationship between dads and daughters. ( also dads and sons).

Mat looks like he's going to burst as the pride wells up in him. She looks like she adores her dad too! Lovely to watch and listen to. Judging by Mat's beautiful voice, Savanna was bound to also have a nice voice. What makes her singing so special though is the amazing control she has. That's something which usually comes with time and experience, but she has it in spades at such a young age. And her voice isn't fully developed yet. I can't imagine how great she is going to become in the future.

There’s something so endearing and innocent about you two that you are simply irresistible. I know that you will find your way out of shallow waters. Regardless if you wish just to talk about the journey in front of you...you have my ears, because you are restoring our faith in humanity.
When Savanah nails those highs so flawlessly, they seem to pull every string in her dad's heart.
The whole performance of the song is beautiful but I think what I enjoyed the most was her dad’s pride and joy while she was doing her part. Very sweet indeed.
Mat... and Savanna. I have never listened too much to Lady Gaga nor many other singers of today's modern music. Mine is usually turned to Christian music..... especially in today's age. So, I appreciate you sharing what the song was originally about when created by Lady Gaga. I so agree with it. I have been telling my grandkids and everyone.... when God opens the door to do so... that there is more to life than our phones. It is the reason I don't do the internet on them. No facebook/emails/ web searches, etc. I don't want my life to be so wound up in a 3x5 piece of equipment that can be hacked... lost.... etc. And for those young people who have put their entire life on their phones, they can't function in life when they don't have it. They have lost the ability to learn to read other's facial expressions... body language or hear the tone of voice. And mean, when a family comes into a restaurant and everyone is on their phones.... I think sometimes. a stranger could come up, take the place of one of the family members and no one would notice. So So sad. And people that can't even speak to each other even though they are sitting next to each other. They have to text their messages. Excuse me. You are not living in the 'real world' of humanity. That's just my opinion. Maybe one day, there will be a -- 'Vacation'-- For The Cell Phones. .. and all of them will be cut off from use for 3-4 days. Wow.. what a shock to our society and the world. And what peace.
