There is food grade epoxy as well. You can chop right on it.
Resin looks so easy, but I’m so intimidated to try it. I see all kinds of awesome projects and I know I could never pull any of them off!

This would make a great bathroom counter top.
If you want any ultra smooth and somewhat liquid resistant finish on the wood without using sealers, lightly spray water on the wood between sandings. The water raises loose wood fibers which you then sand down. This makes the surface super slick and removes open voids in the fiber for liquid to get in later.
