    Tony! We Traditional Catholics (the only christians whom Modernist Rome will not accept because their eccumenism is heretical) have always known this...about Margaret, that is. But I really, really appreciate how you have painstakingly researched, wrote, and produced the great work you did here with this one. I AM A LATE BUT GREAT FAN OF TIME TEAM. I saw this video quite awhile ago before I came across Time Team, but recently I've been wondering why you never mentioned this throughout the many great Time Team Seasons/Episodes. I'm on S19 now. Anyway....the chances you seeing this are slim. I've commented throughout these past months, got a like or two but not much else. As well, I've grown very fond of Britannia principally through your work which helped me to finally crack the code of understanding just what went on on that Island and group of islands. Truly awesome,.........would love to visit and work with time team for a month or two...free. I grew fond of Mick and was saddened when the memorial time team video popped up. God bless you, cousin!

    I like Tony a lot. He has some very thought provoking ideas and produces evidence or proof of it. It's a very interesting idea of what would have happened to Britain had the Hastings decided to take over. I guess they could have had the support of the "commoners" when Victoria bungled her allegations against Lady Flora. I do not think any monarchy should feel too comfortable. But one has to ask if the time of the monarch is over.

    A rather interesting video and story seen through Norwegian eyes. The Norwegian king's grandfather, Haakon VII, was in fact an elected king after a referendum. He was a Danish prince and married to Maud of Wales who was one of Edward VII's daughters. Prince Carl of Denmark insisted on a referendum before accepting the offer of the Norwegian throne in 1905 after Norway seceded from the union with Sweden. He wanted to be sure that the Norwegian people really wanted a monarchy. The proposal was approved by 78.9% of voters. Now, this is the way to do it if the royal line is broken, something that for Norway happened already in 1387. From this year until 1905, Norway was ruled by Danish and Swedish kings and queens, respectively.

      I had the same thought. It seems they should have traced the Harold Godwinson line instead. The first English king was an Anglo-Saxon, not Norman French. As an aside, I think this also establishes the third (and maybe most important) element of royal lineage. The one with the bigger and better army gets to be king, not necessarily the one with the bloodline and legitimate birth. William I and Henry the VII proved that one.

    • @myothersoul1953
      @myothersoul1953 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BobatBG True, I said that because I can trace my lineage to William the conqueror through a "concubine of england". Imagine that, concubine to a whole country! How proud I am ... lol

      Ah yes, but William the Conqueror was the firstborn son of the unmarried Robert I of Normandy, who could have married William's mother - a poor woman, but who died when William was about 7 years of age, and who had named William his heir.

  • @darrylmay4510

    This, surprisingly, makes me feel a little better about the coronation next week. Now I can watch the coronation and know that "that bloody bastard" is an illegitimate King. England and the English people have held a special place in my heart ever since I lived there for two years. My stepmother is English. My DNA shows 74% English and 23% Irish. I even visited Nottinghamshire, where the May family comes from. England and Great Britain deserve better than a King who tried to overthrow his own mother.

  • @k.a.wippel2349
    @k.a.wippel2349 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Therefore the "two Princes in the tower" were not even legitimate heirs to the throne. If Richard the third knew this he had no reason to kill them.

    • @EilsTheDaydreamer
      @EilsTheDaydreamer 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were a symbol to Richard's enemies though. There was no dna and no real understanding of science. No way to prove definitively they were illegitimate. There was a real risk that nobles would rally behind them and put one of them on the throne, corrupting the line again. Not that it mattered anyway of course, as the niece who he left alone corrupted it.

    Hey! Ashby-de-la-Zouch is named after the de-la-Zouch branch of the Breton sovereign house when it became a possession of Alan de la Zouch. From Wikipedia: "Alan de la Zouche, sometimes called Alan de Porhoët and Alan la Coche (c. 1093-1150), a Breton who settled in England during the reign of Henry II. He was the son of Vicomte Geoffrey I de Porhoët and Hawisa of Brittany."
    This is quite a prominent family, one line of which still holds the title Baron Zouche, but there are (wealthy) Zouche descendants all over Europe, including the House of Rohan, whose name Tolkien filched. They have held extensive lands in England. In 1267 one was a Mayor of London, Alan la Zuche/Zouch/Zouche, Baron Zouche; among very many roles, he was a prominent courtier, a sheriff and a benefactor to the Knights Templar. (Most of London's early mayors, from 1189 to 1298, had Breton names - perhaps this was a legacy of the influence of the sovereign house, who had financial and nautical interests there, and actually all over eastern England. Also, much of the fortune held by the Templars consisted of gifts from Brittany, which is one reason why the French King's seizure of their assets led to the Hundred Years' War, as described in the French TV drama series "Les Rois Maudits".)
    I think there is a Hastings connection to the Zouch, in addition to the 1st Earl Hastings obtaining the Ashby-de-la-Zouch castle in 1464, but I don't recall any details.

      Not literally, perhaps. But in every other way, yes. A murderous cad, a psychopathic scoundrel with next to no legitimate claim to the throne whatsoever. Certainly none that measure up even to NSW’s Michael Hastings !

    It's worth pointing out that disputes about who killed who and who and slept with who in the Middle Ages is pretty much irrelevant to the current monarchy: the current Queen is Queen because of the 1701 Act of Settlement, which restricted the Crown to the Protestant heirs of Sophia of Hanover, granddaughter of James I of England and VI of Scotland.

      Except, Elderic, that law was to support any already illegitimate line, thus it directly affects the current monarchy. The act of 1701 has no bearing on a Platagenet/Hastings claim to the throne. Your point is irrelevant and moot.

    King Michael is adorable! I've always been fascinated with UK's history and never could understand the Tudor usurpers especially Victoria. She was a vile woman who was horrid to her children. Then the nazi Elizabeth and her nazi husband. Henry the 8th was a disgusting pig, evil and gluttonous. The plantagenets history was more "royal"! The queen should be forced to recognize King Michael and his descendants. They should at the very least be restored of the financial inheritance. King Michael (and I do not say this mockingly but rather with adoration) shows true plantagenet class.

I have a iron clad genealogy going back to 960 AD and I have true Royal blood in my veins but just one hitch we descend from 1 of the 36 mistresses a king had I have picture of him somewhere I believe it was another king Edward who was married to a Rhohesia ? They sure fooled around a lot back then.😮

      Bonjour from an angevin, who had lived in Fontevraud... As you are mentionning the Plantagenêts, I'd like to say it was not quiet times back then, and like father, like sons. One of their ancestors, Foulques Nerra Comte d'Anjou, had his first wife burned, suspected of adultery. Some said he burned Angers, at the same time...
