      He’s kinda been that tho, he’s just a much more refined version that you only get with experience. I mean he does throw maybe the prettiest ball you’ve ever seen short of Aaron Rodgers. He kinda reminds me of Matt Ryan, good enough to put up big numbers and take you to the Super Bowl, but needs a lot of talent around him to reach his potential

    Nice vid breakdown of Goff's play. Dig it. The sniffer on the final rushing td was Sam LaPorta, rookie TE for the Lions. Talk about a dream play for a rookie. Doesn't get much better than that other than having the ball thrown to him. Pretty stellar for a rookie TE whose main knock was his blocking being dogged in the draft process. He took on the Chief's biggest dude in the whole too and stood him up. Excellent play execution by the Lions all around.

      Goff was always good but that SB loss killed his image and Mcvay being the young and stubborn coach he did not see eye to eye with him after that SB loss and never wanted to change the scheme to better Goff. Evey person that knows football knows this but people like to be brainwashed by the media and criticize the guy. Mcvay was outcoached by Belichick plain and simple. Gurley had a horrible game and the Oline did not hold up and gave away 4 sacks and a lot of QB pressures. Every QB need talent around them but Goff that game did not have it and people were quick to blame him for the loss

He is a beast and will give his best effort on every single down. Honestly, it was only him who appeared to give a damn on the Bears over the last 3-4 years. I’m from the UK so probably the reason why there is a slight change of pace in the comments. It is difficult to see any weaknesses in the Lion’s roster. They just need to eliminate those ugly miscues that have plagued them for years. For instance, I recall a dropped sure fire TD pass to a RB to win the game against the Bears a few years ago. Things like that. We got away with that one.
      I refuse to jump on this Fields bandwagon until I see some consistent QB play. The big runs are fine but it’s only a matter of time before someone knocks him out of the game. The backup QB Taysom Bagnet (probably spelt that wrong) is interesting. Seems to have come out of nowhere and impressed enough to win the backup spot.
      Anyway, have a good season.

    3:30 there was a shot in the live broadcast that showed what that throw looked like. Insane, feathering it in between three players in the perfect spot. Looks easy from above, but even from the camera hanging twenty feet in the air or whatever it looked like a crazy read.

    • @aggie126
      @aggie126 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Yup. Heckuva pass. JJG really can make all the throws. You often hear that he doesn't have a big arm when it's more like he doesn't big-arm it unless the situation calls for it. Which means he throws a very "catchable" ball. The Lions haven't lacked for chunk plays of late - and it's because of scheme and Goff's accuracy and touch.

    Nice break down of Goff QB play! He made some nice reads and non Goff throws! Very effective! But I think the real heroes were the Detriots offensive line play! Especially in the third & forth quarters they were pushing KC's defense around! But if Goff can continue this type of QB play? Detriot will win thier Division! Maybe 1st round? But KC & Mohomes was just one pass away from winning that game! His wideouts alligatored a couple of receptions! Detroit D was putting some knucklebumps on KC! A good first game! KC & Mohomes still the best in show! He can make any throw from anywhere on the field! Love watching Mohomes throw! But Goff looked like a new boy out there tonight! The first season and a half for Goff in Detroit was admittedly rough, but the team has done right by him. They gave him time to learn a new system while they built a team around him and that system. It took him some time in LA too. We need to remember that Goff is still pretty young. I think he's just now hitting his prime.

    Thanks JT- great breakdown, love seeing the chefs lose- gives me hope for my BRONCOS- Dan Campbell & the Lions have done a great job providing Goff with that OL & Running Game... in my mind it was 7 on 7 all night long for him & that's what a good pocket passer needs- a good OL & running game & you set him up for success... football is cyclical & once all this old school Notre Dame Run Pass Option stuff fades back into like the 1920's? then we will see RB's getting paid & not being a committee of good but a bell cow that's great which has already ramped up from being an exotic esoteric thing like Derrek Henry & Titans but a new paradigm returning also you will start to see RB stick around instead of being out of the league in 5 yrs as teams again get back to the more traditional football approach where you have a Split of 55+% RUN to 45+% PASS with greater money being spent on the TRENCHES & less on the skill position players... this is all stemming from the dime pckgs where you see a whole lot of 5- 7 DB's on the field, the more athletic Hybrid LB DB like Tampa had in Rhonde Barber D Brooks & Lynch... so that cycle is probably headed for the dinosaurs as teams with stout & well taught OL & BIG athletic trad RB's are starting to take advantage of the lack of BASE DEF being played... last time I looked at the league stats on that Rivera was the ONLY guy whose team played in BASE DEF 90-95% of the time... at that Juncture GBay was utilizing the dime way too much for my liking... so the trend in my mind is what we saw from the Lions & in the critical quarter the LIONS absolutely shoved KC's DEF backwards to victory... and as you pointed out OH THE DROPS by KC WR tho?!!? YIKES is right 2nd Half Stats KC WR: KT 0- 4 & the critical carom INT right off his hands- [THE GAME CHANGING PLAY]/ S Moore 0- 3/ J Watson 0- 2/ J Ross 1-1/ R James 1-1/ R Rice 0- 1>>>TTL 2- 12 O.U.C.H. Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell knew that it's easier to build a team around a good QB than it is to draft an elite QB. Brad knew that his scouting on Goff in L.A. was on point, and McVay broke him. Dan built him up in his confidence and Ben Johnson works with him to design the offense. Goff is a new man here in Detroit and will realize his full potential if he doesn't try to break the bank next contract. He has to know that Detroit has fully supported him and things won't be the same elsewhere. Or...enter Hendon Hooker.

    Remember Goff’s last year with the Rams when everyone said he was terrible and he was done, and McVay had to dumb down his offense because Goff couldn’t see the field? I couldn’t believe the Lions took him in that trade, but he looks pretty good here. Not perfect, and not too flashy, but good enough to beat the Chiefs, and lots of nice plays. Back from the dead, I guess? Good for Goff and the Lions.

    He actually had a lot of looks downfield and without a real #1. That's a huge improvement from two years ago. 4 passes of more than 20 yards actually puts him tied for 5th in the league right now, behind with Tua, Stafford, Cousins and Carr.

    Lions have built this team the right way. Their OL runs the show. Brad Holmes has drafted really well. MCDC has established the culture and these guys play hard. Guys want to run through walls for this guy and it shows. Coached really well, good play calling and Goff fits what they do perfectly.

    I am really happy the Lions are a good team now. Goff has improved so much since he was with LA and the culture of the team has changed enough to put pressure on the teams they are playing. I know KC was missing some guys but the old Lions don't win that game because the Chiefs wud have made plays cuz there wudnt have been the pressure on them to perform and after KC scored on those two drives at the end of the half the old Lions wud have phoned in the second half.

    • @Lhenry2365
      @Lhenry2365 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Goff was never the issue in LA. The Rams gave up on Goff. If people actually watched the SB they would know both QBs struggled and it was a defensive game. Goff did poorly because that oline played horrible and Gurley had probably the worst game ever. Mcvay was outcoached plain and simple. The following year Mcvay didnt see eye to eye and didnt want to change the scheme to better Goff. If people want to argue this they should pay attention to the lions because he has 359 active passes with no turn overs and in 10 games scored 20+ points with no turn overs setting a new NFL record.
      The guy before that SB loss was throwing darts and made back to back probowls. Some fans are stuck on that SB loss and have no common sense and easily criticize the guy. Also every QB needs good talent around them. Look at Stafford when he played in Detroit, he always fell short because that Oline wasnt the best and wasnt the worst. Stafford went to LA with a great oline and he thrived. Goff at the time in LA it seemed like the fracnhise and the team gave up on him and that hurt his chemistry. Real LA fans know Goff was good but Mcvay did not work well with him.

    The play you break down at the 12:00 mark is and example of lack of mobility that literally kills the potential of that play., It was stark contrast all game long. Patrick making plays keeping a dead play alive. And Goff not able to do anything when the play design is broken (which in the NFL a high % of the plays will be broken)
    I am not optimistic as some with him. I think if the stars align and if he is in the most ideal situations he can have success. Chiefs being mistake prone and only scoring 20 points is one of those situations. Along with the win streak last year vs bad to average teams in their win streak. I just feel like Detroit is setup for a big fall back to earth because Goff can't really be a guy you win because of.. .you win with.. but not because of. So many stars have aligned to have this recent success... But I just keep remembering this was the guy traded away for 2 1sts.. and how he was 4 and 19 as a starter here before success in these star aligned type situations.
    I counted 4 drives alone where him not being able to move was a big part of why it ended. Doesn't need to be mike Vick but Justin Herbert mobility or Treavor Lawerence type moblity would have saved a 3 drives. I mean he displays the athletic ability of a person recovering from injury or a 55 year old man.

  • @ChumblesMumbles
    @ChumblesMumbles 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That play at 11:05 is a bit strange - not sure what the point of the fake handoff is, when it's going right at the defenders instead of away from them - they can see the ball and they can see it's not being handed off. (13:03 backside view makes that much more clear). Even if they did bite on the handoff all that makes them do is close on the back - so he's covered. So the back is all covered up by defenders just based on the way the play is being drawn up and executed.

    In regards to the 3rd&12 throw in the 4th quarter, I really think that Goff was locked onto 14 and tried to throw it to him. Watch his helmet for the whole play, and watch how the trajectory of the ball changes right as it leaves his hand due to contact from the blitzing defender. I think Goff was taking the TD shot, but got hit as he was releasing the ball, and somehow luckily got the ball to 8. Totally my amateur opinion and no way to know.

    You can tell why they let TJ Hockinson go. Really can win without him and did not have to splurge on that massive contract of $66,000,000. Plus TJ's route tree was redundant with Amon running those inside routes. Sam LaPorta looks very capable and may even be a better blocker. Sam is a bit smaller than TJ though .
    As long as the offensive coordinator stays in Detroit Goff has a great future. Even when Ben Johnson eventually departs the Lions have a great offensive template to work with. Goff must be loving life right now.
