Great find on that rare gold coin, I found a small 1945 Mexico gold coin but something like this would bring down the house, ....the search goes on. Congratulations sir.
Don't brush dirt off of gold coins with your finger. If you had found an 1875 (Philly) half eagle instead of an 1865-S, you would've been putting hairlines on a $200,000 coin. Various issues from the 1830s/40s are worth high 100K and you never should assume that a later date is less rare. An 1875 half eagle is a classic rarity. An 1854-S would be worth 2 million and someone did find the 5th known example of that issue within the last two years, though it wasn't from metal detecting. Another could be out there, ya never know. I would take any gold coin caked with dirt home and do nothing more than soak it in water to remove any lingering soil and then swish it by the edge of the coin in clean water. Don't abrade them, though. Once you've found out if it's worth it to have it conserved, NGC can conserve those brilliantly. Finding a 2 million dollar coin is unlikely, but there are numerous rare dates/mintmarks in the US gold series. Doesn't matter how small they are, the right date/MM could be worth a ton. The couple that found the Saddle Ridge hoard of double eagles and eagles in 2013 made that same mistake of harshly cleaning a few coins before they called someone. There were 5 or more coins in that hoard that wound up being the finest representatives of their kind. One was an 1866 no motto worth 250-300K. Had they scratched that one, :-(

Trying to show the TID and sounds so that people can understand the detector. I may over analyze my signals, but it's all part of the fun for me.
