Yep....they were! After they kicked Derek Forbes out of the band, the magic was gone and they unfortunately became a stadium rock band, the dark and innovative aspect was gone... along with his magnificent bass parts
Yes they were great and had to develop. You can't just keep releasing the same thing year after year. That becomes boring for the band and fans. For me they have moved on in a great way without ever losing what makes SM the great band they are.
Glad you're doing versions of some of my favourite simple minds songs, I loved all the early stuff, everything up until the New Gold Dream album. After that they became a bit mainstream 😊🫶☮️
I’ve been leaving comments on every song you’ve put up. I simply cannot believe how fantastic you’ve made these songs. Unbelievable. The songs of my youth. JJs nightclub in Fountainbridge Edinburgh.
Thank you for your kind words, Andy! Always glad to see others dig early Minds. This track is sort of their “When the Levee Breaks” and each play reveals new details.
Second that totally - today (Sunday 14 Jan 24) i found a track and then this channel....today has been spent basically going "OMG..OMG..OMG" at all the tracks !
I think your work on the Group's early years is exceptional. I rediscover these tracks with pure joy. James should contact you about working with you. 😊
Thank you! That anyone would enjoy these experiments remains perplexing, but it’s a real dopamine booster. Glad you’re here! Regarding the Kerrminator - I doubt that he would want to collaborate with some Woolworth Johnson Somerset, but it’d be hilarious if so. I’d be game. (Well…depends on the working hours.)
@@110BERLIN_ ...Allow me to beg your indulgence but the profond intellectual parables of your comment transcend my mean intellectual capacities...you're welcome !
@@misterlotfi I was only alluding to the fact that Kerr “had a horrible job cleaning the back store of a butcher’s shop, with all that blood and guts.” That may or may not have informed the second line you quoted.
@@padraigsisk4057 Yeah, he sure knows how to capture lively performances in the studio. (EDIT: And let's not forget Black Sea by XTC, which is probably my personal favorite Steve Lillywhite production apart from Peter Gabriel's third.)
@padraigsisk4057 Although I bought and loved "Sparkle in the Rain " when it was released it was the big change when Simple Minds lost all their subtle beauty of their previous artistic sound scapes and went chasing after U2 down the commercial stadium rock Road and alot of us followed them on their journey, but hindsight is a great thing and we now re-evaluate moments in time from a different perspective, this situation is not unique to Simple Minds but many other artists and bands have all followed the same path, In an ideal world for many fans of the Minds it would have been amazing if they ( original band members) had stuck together and kept producing the experimental music, but I suppose we can all still listen back to their early years 79-82 with pure wonderment.
@@James-hd6ez In retrospect, Sparkle does represent a sea change and, like you, I lament the loss of the previous subtleties. Viewed more positively, Sparkle represents a group refusing to repeat itself - New Gold Dream Redux it’s definitely not. Personally, I love it.
They were on another level during this era and up to New gold Dream. Such a unique atmosphere
Yep....they were! After they kicked Derek Forbes out of the band, the magic was gone and they unfortunately became a stadium rock band, the dark and innovative aspect was gone... along with his magnificent bass parts
I think it's when Mick Macneil left the band, they weren't the same band again
Timeless Music.. 🇦🇷

My favorite era of the Minds. 10 minutes went by in a flash!
Thanks for posting this!
They played this brilliant track at Leeds this year one of my all time favourite simple minds songs it was amazing great mix and video
Just keeps giving and giving 🎉❤
I loved Simple Minds when they made experimental songs....so unique and modern then ....That era ended with "Once Upon a time" !!!!
Once Upon a Time was actually my first Minds album, so I have a soft spot for it, but I know what you mean.
For me it ended with New Gold Dream 😢
I totally agree

The images match the music
As soundtracks for long distance trips go, this one’s up there.
Old vehicles, old fashions, old music, ahhh the 80’s! Not even the 90’s wasn’t alive yet !!
Violence and Vivisection
The expressions of this society.. but nobody can see
Release all the extended versions of simple minds 2023 on cd
I'd love to, but it's up to the Minds (and the effin' lawyers).
Like a drug!!!
I'm a friend of Jim Kerr and have a weekly radio show - do you have a quality source for these remixes so I can play them on my show?
Ask Jim? If he's your friend?, then why ask here?
Notice the 'twin towers' feature heavily in this. Good track x

The videos/music are all beyond amazing.
I don't know this song. It's great.
If you like it, you will probably also enjoy the _Empires and Dance_ album.

That’s probably illegal, I’m afraid. I’d rather not risk a legal entanglement of Dickensian proportions.
