Excellent video!!! Terrific delivery and camera work. The how to was total step by step. I really enjoyed the total hands on approach, I can’t imagine how long it must take to make 100 of these!!
I literally jumped in my seat when you placed your firearm on the table pointed at Hank. PLEASE be more careful, and maybe edit that part out. Too early in the morning to give me a scare like that. Poor Hank. That being said, excellent video and content. I’ve already checked out his website for a Father’s Day wishlist (maybe Christmas if we’re dealing with Coronavirus quarantine), and have shared the video with multiple people. Really quality quarantine viewing; thanks TH-cam algorithm for pushing it my way.
Finally, a 30 min You tube video that Genuinely has ZERO time wasting in it!! This man is not only incredibly skilled in his craft, but also skilled in being succinct in his descriptions and so wonderfully relevant in all the tips and information he describes! Plus his voice is just wonderful to listen to taboot!
I love this because I know what some people see here is “I can do that, no problem”. But see I make custom canvas stuff for boats etc on the side and I thought that too when I first started. He’s happy to show you all the details because he knows damn well even with that knowledge it would take a few years to get good. I laugh every time people say they can do what I do. I tell gladly. And that’s not saying anyone shouldn’t do what i do or what he does for themselves…. Quite contrary…definitely do it yourself. It just takes a certain dedication to really become that master that most people can’t even understand till they try it themselves… and he knows and I know that there’s nothing wrong with that, we aren’t losing business in fact just creating more… because you make something for yourself and it may be slightly imperfect but it’s special to you so you keep it and use it…. Then if you did a good enough job someone else asks you to do one for them but they lowball you and you realize the lessons are just beginning
TLDR: the ppl that got really good at stuff like this did so because of a drive to say they make a better product… for themselves and their own detailed sense. The honorable ones keep going on to be masters because it is themselves that they try to please with the quality first
I have met Mr. Andrew’s several times at the Orlando gun show. He is a very nice man and a highly talented craftsman. I have three of his holsters and they are excellent quality.
This guy should narrate audio books and do commercials! “Meat, It ain’t for pussies!” I don’t need much encouragement but it would push me to go buy a ribeye!
right? lol. I clicked on this and realized it wasn't the real how it's made, and thought, "ugh... 30+ minutes? Seriously?" 30 minutes later. " ugh, only 30+ minutes? Seriously?"
Watching a true craftsman at work is always a joy. It's also nice to see that not everything is cranked out in some sweatshop in China. Thanks for the very entertaining video Hank!
I have several pieces of gun leather made by Mr. Andrews, and he is an absolute joy to work with. There is a bit of a wait, however when you get holster, belt, or whatever else, it is of the finest quality, and I would gladly wait twice as long. He is, when you order by phone, which at this time, I believe, is the only way to order, a jovial, gentleman, who genuinely takes an interest in you, and in how you will use what you are buying. Right now, I’m saving up for something new, and I look forward to speaking to Sam Andrews again. I could not give him a higher recommendation. Great work, fairly priced products, thoughtfully designed, and you will have a new friend as well. That’s value!
I love seeing old-school craftsmen create things like this. Mass production has its merits, but the human element involved in skillful hand production will always deserve the premium it demands. The only negative thing about watching someone create something like this is my envy.
Well, I just spoke with Mr. Andrews and I can tell you he's the same on the phone as he is on these videos. A real gentleman. I have ordered the hybrid saddle style for my Kimber 4" 1911 in natural with the reddish finish. I cannot wait for it to come in. Thank you, Mr. Andrews!
Love to see a quality product being made with care and craftsmanship. It's obvious this man takes a lot of pride in his work and the end result proves it. Like it has been said many times before, the difference between doing a job and doing it right is usually just a few more minutes. Great video, thanks for making it!
As a leather worker and holster maker myself, I still come back to this video every so often because I say, "What would Anderson do?" I love that he covers the tools and time associated with being a hobbyist and a high production shop. We were all just hobbyists at one point!
Hank, 5 stars once again. I have watched this one twice and probably have another turn in me. So many people are afraid to share what theyve learned to their "competition". It seems Mr. Andrews encourages the next generations of craftsmen to learn from his mistakes and he is eager to teach. Thanks to both of you.
Sir I hope you have plenty of kids around to share your passion with. If not, although I'm turning 39, I'm ready to be adopted. Thank you for allowing us to see the process from start to finish. Years of patience/swearing/mistakes I see in front of me.
I've watched a few holster making videos and they were informative but when I came upon this one I was stuck in awe! What a master leather craftsmen he is and very well spoken at that. He truly exudes old world craftsmanship with an authoritative and gentlemanly demeanor! If I don't try to tackle making my own leather holster I know where I'll be placing an order for one soon! Awesome video and thanks for posting...
As many others have said, amazing video! Never seen this done before so when I saw a link to this video I had to watch it. Very very interesting to see how these holsters are made. Thank you for posting this!
I have Mr. Andrews making me a Monarch Rig for my 92FS. I learned of him actually through the magazine Gun Tests this past month. I had tried two Galcos and just was not happy. So, I figured if I'm spending this kinda money I may as well get a hand made one. My only critical thing to say here is I feel it would have been a respectful thing to have below the video where you have all your "support" products to have all of Mr. Andrews Sites and contact information. He did have you there and was a gracious host.
Mr. Andrews Father was also a genius artist to come up with the helpful ideas to make his sons work easier. I am stealing some of his ideas. What a wonderful leather artist. And I would love to learn from him.
Just Can't Get Enough of the Leather Artisan... Sam Andrews is a true Craftsman onf which I have one of his Monarch Rigs for Glock 19/23 just like he made for Hank Strange! Thanks ';-)
He made a Gun Belt for me about 25 or 30 years ago that I still use on a daily basis with a variety of different weapons and holsters. I have 2 new holsters on order now for 2 new pistols that sort of require me to carry in a different configuration due to physical changes. Glad to wait for delivery, 86 now, just hope the Lord allows me time. Best stuff I ever owned.
""...I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you... Now what kind of gun holster do you want?"
I called to order my saddle holster for my beretta 96 compact no rail today. Sam answered the phone! How special. He wasn't in a rush to get me off the phone and even shared a couple stories with me. So inspiring!
Is this guy available to read childrens books on tape? I feel like my son would grow a beard listening to him read "Goodnight moon" . Awesome holster maker and great use of the English language. A plus video.
been doing my own leather work for years . this video has really shown me easier ways of each process and shed light on the matter. thank you Hank and the gentleman Leather Crafter.
Scott Johnson: I've always cut my leather for holsters and other products with shears specially made for that but now I'm going to try Mr. Andrews technique with the knife!
Now I see why quality leather holsters are so dang expensive. So much time and care goes into the making of them. Fantastic video, and like everyone else said, I'd buy a copy of an audio clip of this guy reading the dictionary.
Best video i have ever seen on TH-cam, he is a true Master , his explanation so clear, the way he transmitted his knowledge would make anyone want to be his student, his way of teaching should be put as an example of how every teacher in this world should teach.

For real though. Makes it easy to watch.

If he ever wants to give up holster making he's got a great career as a TV or radio announcer..
I was thinking nature documentaries
or testing cheeseburgers.
Dude does have a cool voice.
No joke. That was first thought.
