    I bought a Rolleiflex SL35 from a used camera store in Budapest last year and the quality of the shots is superb! I've collected several film cameras and this one is by far the best I've had.

    If you depress gently the shutter release, and keep it depressed, you allow the camera to memorize an aperture. This way you are able to chose to expose for the shadows, the middle tones or the highlights, depending to what you aim the camera at. Forget the density filter !

    I had the Canon 40mm 1.9 "range finder" camera and used a similar trick which is just overexposing the shot by underrating the film in the camera (eg tellin the camera it's ISO100 when youre shooting 400) . C41 film can take a lot of overexpose and you can get good results from it. also you can adjust the light accordingly and find a time and place with the right light to pull of that f2.3

    My grandfather had one in the 70:s, I remember him letting me take pictures with it and I probably still have some slides he (and maybe even I) shot back then as I still have most of his slides though I haven't looked at them for a couple of decades. Unfortunately I think my grandmother traded it for a Pentax PC35AF with a power winder after my grandfather died in the early 80:s, I guess she found the manual focus too difficult.

    I just bought one for a good price last week. But I am questioning the quality of the deal as it misses the glass of the light meter, the lense hood, the top of the battery compartment and good light seals. I will have to see about this, but your video certainly helped 👍

    Thanks for this great video. My first 35 mm camera was a Rollei 35XF , purchased in Boston in 1981. I recently purchased another on Ebay. They are great little cameras with sharp lenses! in using a polarizing or yellow filter, I would assume the same holds true as in an ND filter, correct?

    Great video, nice to see a detailed review on this camera. My mother had one back when it first came out and I've just managed to get a good sample now after 2 not so good ones from auctions, so will keep them for spare parts! Are you sure about the ASA speeds, maybe earlier models vary but mine goes 25, 32, 50, 64, 100, 125, 160, 200, 250, 320 & 400 ASA. Just about to put a roll through it and will take your tip on using an ND filter also! :)

    I’m a bit confused about the thing that shows the iso. Should set the iso to the film im using for the camera?

    • @ThePhotographyMinimalist
      @ThePhotographyMinimalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, set it for the ISO of the film you are using. Unless you want to push or pull your film, but that's a different story...

    hello, what is the ideal density for the ND filter?

    • @ThePhotographyMinimalist
      @ThePhotographyMinimalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. Because different light situations will never be the same, it would probably be best to use a vaiable ND filter or otherwise stack lower EV number ND filters.

    So interesting video about that camera, how I can change the battery because it use a mercury battery and it doesn't exist.

    • @ThePhotographyMinimalist
      @ThePhotographyMinimalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Renan, good question! I have been using a Varta V625 PX and it is working fine. It has no affect on the lightmeter. I guess it will depend on the camera, when using a non-mercury battery.

      @@ThePhotographyMinimalist hey sorry i don’t understand ? Is there any difference in between nd 10 nd 100 and nd 1000 ? And for xf 35 what mm should it be 49mm 48mm 52mm ? Thank you

    • @ThePhotographyMinimalist
      @ThePhotographyMinimalist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FilippoGVA The higher the nd number, the less light is let through. Thus "forcing" the camera to use a larger aperture which creates a shalower d.o.f. The Rollei XF35 has a 46mm filter size.

    • @ThePhotographyMinimalist
      @ThePhotographyMinimalist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have to agree, but these camera's are demanding these high prices. The image quality which you can achieve does not justify the relatively high price. But they are very collectible, especially in mint condition. They are quite fragile so if you own a working mint camera, you can hold on to it. I think it will maintain or go up in value.

    Could anyone please tell me what is the default shutter speed of this camera without the battery power?

  • @seydayddin
    @seydayddin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have one, but there is no battery cover, I want to use it without a battery, but is it possible to make settings such as ISO, ft without a battery? and I can see that the shutter speed has changed when I change the guide number setting, should I shoot by making this adjustment myself or do you have any suggestions for me to find the right settings without the battery?

      You can find some 1.35v mercury replacement batteries online. I use WeinCell Mrb625 and it works on my Rollei xf35.
