  • In this video I am reviewing the SVS Ultra Evolution Titan HiFi speakers, which marks the move for SVS into a new premium area of the HiFi speaker market. They are offering a lot of modern design technologies such as a diamond coated tweeter and a quad force balanced bass driver array with a uniquely curved cabinet design.

    Excellent review. A nice balance of enthusiasm and critique. It's great to see a speaker so widely available so well reviewed. Often, after watching a review of a speaker, I get so pumped up I check out the buying options. In many cases, the speakers are not available to me. Not sold directly on the internet. No nearby dealer. If I can get them somehow, there is no trial period. Not so with the Titans. But, unfortunately, I'm not too pumped up about them! 😂

    May I call bulls### on your “I don’t really have a nicely designed, nicely decor’ed room?” I think your listening room is the beez kneez! Love your channel and keep up the good work! Cheers man…

      Thank you for the kind comments, what I meant was I dont have a more "typical" nicely designed modern lounge room where everything goes down the same room where the speaker aesthetic will really matter. In dedicated rooms like mine its a little different - but thanks again

    • @lint8391
      @lint8391 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that Terry's listening room sucks - for listening to hi-fi speakers. Because it's an acoustically challenging room. Something about the dimensions and overall size that results in distracting amounts of bass echoes. It's something that Terry has mitigated with his room treatment and DSP.
      However, the right type of totally different house with a totally different audio room would be more of a beez kneez experience.
      From Terry's point of view there's the harsh reality of living in Greater London, with property prices being what they are.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lint8391 to be fair Lindsey is right, I have a small room so it’s a challenge but I have listened to loads of hifi systems in all sizes of room and the room size does not detract from the need for treatment I think it’s just as important. The problems just change. Since you was here years ago I have changed loads Lindsey and haven’t used dsp in here for about a year as I have not had it in the system. That’s forced me to make it work without it and I have. But it would still be better with Dirac as every system can be as every room and every system is not perfect so we can always make things better

    Get some of the old wax out and test the bass on those for us Terry. We wanna hear some speed garage playing through these things 😁. Seriously though they are not too bad looking for the price not at all with the grills they would look cool in most rooms. Personally I'm not a fan of the white gloss . I don't like the recessed binding posts at the back though . Would be cool if they did the custom website colour picker for these like that video you put out other day. More companies should jump on that but then again it would screw up some of the used market so a lot of companies may be hesitant.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah since looking at the configurator I am seeing the plain design speakers as plain, but there is a price difference between the 2 to think about as well. SVS are trying to offer as much as they can for as little as they can which is what most people want, lets be honest about it. I dont have any garage on vinyl yet, I will get some eventually of course.

    I think their greatest shortcoming is that the response was allegedly tuned by ear. Its running into crossover issues w/ suck-outs in response & crossing everything over way too low at the mid woofer. Otherwise a mostly competent speaker as long as you use EQ to fix the response issues.

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You have just taken what Erin has said without giving it more thought, or likely listening for yourself.
      They havetuned these to sound a certain way, likely based around theories of equal loudness not aiming for a flat response which 9/10 sounds very lean in the bass - they have gone for a warmer bass and a warmer sound and its great in the main.
      Loads of speakers have dips in the response LOADS and famous ones and that can be done for many reasons - not a technical fault or crossover error for a sonic benefit.. You dont listen to these and hear that far from it and they dont shout at you either unless you feed them a shit and all speakers will shout when you feed them shit music.
      If you have measured SVS cheaper speakers they measure much more text book so its not like SVS dont know what they are doing, the cheaper speaker sound pretty dull. These dont they give music some character and make it fun by being big and bold warm and bassy and that makes them standout.
      You defo dont need to eq the response anymore than any other speakers, less actually - normally to make a speaker sound good in room you eq the bass up in the mid bass and down where you have problems These start there so you only eq the bits away that might cause you room problems so its less rather than more.
      I work as a professional calibrator and do this all the time so I know what works and what doesnt.

      Yes the KEF is rectangular but the KEF has the matching colour drivers with the silver UniQ contrast and it has matching colour driver trims. The black drivers and not matching on the SVS is why they look nicer with the grills on. The curved cabinet is nice but its not as striking in the room when you put it next to the KEF because of all the reasons I mentioned. But your point is well made.

    Mate you constantly make reference to the KEF R series. But whilst we are all aware the KEF’s are good. But to reference to one brand or model definitely shows your bias. If you are so biased to the KEF don’t review anything else but KEF

      I have reviewed 1 kef product in 5 years so don’t jump to a conclusion based on maybe 2 videos. I have been doing this job over 7 years. I am honest and fair and not biased towards any brand hence the diversity of products I review

    Whenever they try and sell you quality by saying at the price point RUN.

      I had speakers in here recently around £30 - £35k and others in the £4-£6k - there is a huge difference in the build and finish and design and technology so when I am considering everything available and how it stacks up then "at the price" is the only worlds you can use. I am not selling anything here hence I started the review with all the negatives as I see them. Come on man its a bit of a silly comment to make here.

      "This speaker has poor quality at it's price" makes me want to buy every time. Ridiculous bro.

    I find the Kefs and SVS are both bland in their own ways. Both are boring looking to me.

      I can see that, the KEF look a bit nicer as they have the silver colour contrast of the Uniq but also because they have driver mount covers that colour match so you dont see the screws, that is a more premium way to do but they do cost a bit more too.

    Why not address issues of clarity, coherence, tonality, timbre, timing, articulation, driver composition and integration, cabinet resonance, crossover construction, scale, soundstage and musicality, if you're going to review speakers, rather than just running your mouth?

      @PursuitPerfectSystem  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I spoke about pretty much all of that just without using those specific key words. I think you seem to be the one running your mouth here but that’s just my take on the tone timbre articulation and construction of your comment
