Like button smashed! Fortunately, ammonium sulphate is readily available in 25kg bags on the German Amazon site for about €22. What is the difference between using ammonium sulphate instead of urea (46-0-0)?
Hey Mike good question. Ammonium sulfate and urea both provide plants with nitrogen. Urea needs to go through a process called hydrolysis in the soil to release nitrogen for the plants. This process takes some time. On the other hand, ammonium sulfate already contains nitrogen in a form that plants can use immediately. Ammonium sulfate also contains sulfur, which is good for plant growth. Urea doesn't have any additional nutrients You could use urea for this too
@@Premier_lawns_official Thank you, Robbie! I have been using urea at about one-quarter the application rate with my bi-weekly seaweed extract doses, but am at the point where I'm ready to order another bag. I'll try the ammonium sulfate.
This looks fantastic. One thing I can't work out though is the water. The issue I have is that both the seaweed and Ammonium are added to a similar amount, only 50/60ml water per metre squared.. The iron though needs about a litre per metre according to the packet. So for a 100m lawn you'd only need 5/6 litres water to apply the seaweed and ammonium, but the iron you'd need 100 litres! So my question is how does one manage to use all three combined when the water requirements are so different?
The instructions you are looking at are for a watering can. For a sprayer you don’t need to use no where near that amount of water. For 100m2 I’ve used 6 litres of water at the max rate and been absolutely fine
Hi mate I have all the calculations for the products and water qty for the ammonium Do I add the full qty of iron to the water qty for the ammonium? Only use 6l in total so do I still add 1/2g per metre of the lawn into the 6l? Help would be appreciated
Hi Robbie, here's a conundrum for you. I took the top sod of my rear garden rotovated and reseeded in a dwarf rye. I dug out an old french drain running down centre of garden filled up with sods turned upside down and put 300mm of topsoil on top. What's happened is where the old shore is evergreen and sits out like a sore thumb. It's down 6 weeks and haven't applied fertiliser. Will the shore eventually settle down and tone in the same as the rest? Thanks
Different times of year have different amounts of growth. In the summer months when the grass is actively growing you will need to put it on more often It will also depend on how much you cut the grass too You could use this instead of a granular or you could use this to get an extra bit of colour...
The thing about liquid feeds, it gives you a lot of control about what goes on. 100 percent you could use this and only this. The golf course use only this... During the growing season you might have to put it on once a month or more. Depends on the growth, what height you cut and and how often...
Today after watching this fantastic advice I got the ammonium sulfate and seaweed liquid delivered. I have a Stihl backpack sprayer that holds 17 litres. How much seaweed and ammonium should I use to water as I'm useless at maths trying to work it out is a nightmare? Hope you will be able to help me out. Cheers 👍
Hi Robbie Would you be able to break down the usage in a simple month format? (best guess) The usage information on collier turf suggests not to use in the summer months (although I am this year (however we've had plenty of rain & not so much heat this year). It looks like it's suggesting to use Feb-Apr then Sept-Oct. But then Elixir garden supplies suggest usage of - Recommended to be used from March to August. I guess the green keeper didn't go into detail, but you will have a better guess than most of us 😂👍
Hi Chris The elixir garden supplies isn't technical grade sulphate of ammonia (as far as I'm aware) It's not going to break down the same in water. In the spring, lawns love a bit of nitrogen and through the summer too as long as it's not to warm. I would go on at the full rate Round about August I would start to ease off on the nitrogen The sulphate of ammonia is @ 21 percent if it's applied at 2.5g per m2 To apply it at say 10 percent, simply cut that in half 1.2g (approximately) During the winter either drop the ammonia down to less than 4-5 percent or cut it altogether
@@Premier_lawns_official Awesome, thanks Robbie. It does say it's water dissolvable. 'This fertiliser can “scorch” plants if applied directly onto them. It is common to be fork it into the soil around the plants, or mixed with water and sprayed over them as a diluted solution to minimise this.' If I've got some left i'll give it a go overnight as you suggest in the previous video. I'll report back with the findings. UPDATE: I don't have any left, so i'll order a 500g bag & try it.
@@Premier_lawns_official Response was - It's disolvable, but they couldn't specify the rate. I'll try it out using your rates (it's 21-0-0) when the lawn needs it.
Hi robbie so after the drama i had getting caught at the weekend think have raked the black an that out cut it sitting not bad.. can i put iron down soon for a good green up. Or just get the seaweed onto it?
Hi Robbie great video. Just to clarify you would mix the items separately with their own water rate then dump them in the same sprayer? Then add the seaweed dose to the final amount in the sprayer? So say you have 10litres of the mixed product in the sprayer you then add the correct dose of seaweed for the 10 litres? No extra water for the seaweed?
Hi Robbie, Great advice thank you. Also I’m thinking of buying an electric Scarifyer/aerater instead of hiring a petrol one each time. Are the electric ones any good? I’m looking at the 1800cc Hyundai
So I have a question..... I had a lovely 20 year old Laburnum tree and I also have a cherry blossom a Canadian maple and also at the time I had a native mountain ash I bought some powder in a tub that kills moss and I sprinkled it on the lawn..... Don't ask what it was as it was a good few years ago..... It was sprinkled evenly.... And within a few months the laburnum tree was dead as a dodo I left it there for two years just to be sure but it never came back..... All other trees were OK.... Are laburnum trees susceptible to what ever is in moss killer or do you know?????
After a few weeks my original grass would be over 12 inches long. I overseeded in May and mowed 2 weeks later using a cheap rotary, on a fairly high setting. Now mowing at usual height on my cylinder..4 weeks after overseeding. I just couldn't leave it any longer as visually it would look awful going into summer.
Yes bought all 3 products on your recommendation. Great video as I have been buying granular fertiliser and prices are going through the roof! Keep up the great work.
Good question, yes I'm sure you could. But the question should really be should you? 100 per cent the seaweed and iron, maybe leaving the Ammonia until the new seed gets established Fertiliser should display the which indicates the percentage of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) Look for a starter fertiliser with a higher P or K number Ammonia is the (N) For new grass you want something that has plenty of (p) or (k) Ammonia doesn't have any of those. Slow-release nitrogen sources, such as polymer-coated or organic-based fertilisers, are beneficial for newly seeded lawns. They release nutrients gradually over time, providing a steady supply of nourishment without overwhelming the young grass. This helps prevent excessive growth or burn damage.
Hi Robbie… great vid as normal and tips! What can I feed my lawn with.. I’ve just got new seed coming through but I’ve used fertilisers and damaged em. Could I use a high Nightrogen feed on it? Keep the vids going … great advise
Love the vids! So this gives you nitrogen and you add seaweed extract and iron... but no need for the P and K in NPK then??? Real noob wants to know what to put on in spring, in summer and autumn by way of mix.... ;-)
The golf course where I filmed about the seaweed only uses sulphate of ammonia, sulphate of iron and seaweed in the spring, summer and autumn In the winter they take the sulphate of ammonia out of the mix Depends on what you want, if you want to learn about lawn care, it's about trying out different things and seeing what works best for you. You can try this for yourself or / and add it into a program for your lawn. If you want to learn a bit more about npk watch this video th-cam.com/video/DiimZB3r4mA/w-d-xo.html If you want why seaweed is good, this is a longer video, a deep dive into seaweed, partly filmed at the golf course mentioned in this video th-cam.com/video/6JcgKNjUqRE/w-d-xo.html

Hi, like other comments I appreciate you video but am struggling with the quantities. Per 100m sq Ammonium Sulphate, 250gms diluted in 6 litres. That’s ok Iron Sulphate, 200gms diluted in 100 litres. This is the one that puzzles as that’s a lot a backpack fills when you have a garden of 1,000 Sq m. Just checking that’s correct. The other question is can the products be mixed, for example (100sq m) can I add the 250gms AS to the 200gms IS and if so do I combined the water amounts? Thanks
The application rate for iron is based on area of lawn and the amount of water is incidental. Work out volume of water needed to pass over the lawn three times and add the total m2 application rate for your lawn to this amount of water.
I love your videos so much I smashed the subscribe button. Watched this but can’t get my head around your application rate of 2.5g per sq mtr of sulphate of ammonia when packaging on almost all of this product states 25g per sq mtr. I’m confused
Liquid fertilisers are taken up by the plant right away. That is why the amount needed is much lower. If you put on more it would burn So, if you use a liquid you see the results much faster as it gets into the lawn right away On the other hand, a granular takes a while to break down and become available to the plant And it's not all available right away, it might take a few weeks or even months for it all to get released.
Hi Robbie...i cant make sense of this...sorry im rubbish at maths...so if you have a 100 sq m lawn you use 250 grams in 6 litres of water....correct? The iron sulphate says 1 to 2 grams per litre of water per square metre.....thats 100 litres of water....im really confused...help😮
@@davegill7614 let's go back to basics, if your unsure do a test patch, spray and leave for 24 hours, for the Pro-Kleen... The Sulphate of iron for green up, states 1-2g per m2 and says to mix in 1lt of water per m2. So for a 100 m2 lawn it would be 100-200g in 100lt of water?! That’s a lot of refills of my knapsack! in the video you mention the 1-2g rate but now the water amount. Can you advise please? Cheers mate.

Not struggling with the calcs, just in the video you were talking about the calcs for the ammonia and then went on to the iron and just said it’s 1-2gr per m2 but didn’t mention water rate per m2 and had a bit of a shock when I got the tub and it said 1lt water per m2 whic would be 148ltr of water….that would of been a lot of trips in my knapsack!? 😂 keep up the good work 👍🏻
Hi Robbie! All the other ammonia sulphate brands I've seen state an application rate of 35 g/m² every 4-6 weeks, how come this is only 2.5 g/m² when they are also NPK 21-0-0?
@@Premier_lawns_official But that doesn't change how much nitrogen is going on to the lawn, does it? it's still 21% of 2.5g compared to 21% of 35g per square meter? Sorry if I'm missing something.
Good question, hopefully this answers it for you Liquid fertilisers are in a dissolved or suspended form, which makes the nutrients readily available for plant uptake. The nutrients are immediately available in a soluble form, allowing plants to absorb them more efficiently. Granular fertilisers, on the other hand, need to dissolve and break down in the soil before the nutrients become available to plants. As a result, granular fertilisers are typically applied at higher rates to compensate for slower nutrient release and lower overall nutrient availability
@Premier_lawns_official I never used it, a bit new for me. But if I may ask. Let me say you use those 3 product's. Do you spray them all every time, or do you skip some product's from time to time.

Do you use potash? I was wondering if it worth adding to ammonia to create own say 21-0-5
You could try it, be careful if there is sulphur in it as that may scorch the lawn 👍 let me know how you get on
This looks fantastic.
Same question here
The instructions you are looking at are for a watering can. For a sprayer you don’t need to use no where near that amount of water. For 100m2 I’ve used 6 litres of water at the max rate and been absolutely fine

Hi mate
I have all the calculations for the products and water qty for the ammonium
Do I add the full qty of iron to the water qty for the ammonium?

Thanks
Excellent advice. How often would you suggest applying this, and is this instead of all granular products?
Different times of year have different amounts of growth. In the summer months when the grass is actively growing you will need to put it on more often
It will also depend on how much you cut the grass too
You could use this instead of a granular or you could use this to get an extra bit of colour...
@@Premier_lawns_officialas a ball park for general lawns which has kids playing on it a lot! How many times a year should I apply it?
@@Premier_lawns_officialmany thanks. So as an additional green up in the summer could I use monthly or is more frequently still ok?
I guess the green keeper didn't go into detail, but you will have a better guess than most of us 😂👍
Hi Chris
The elixir garden supplies isn't technical grade sulphate of ammonia (as far as I'm aware)
It's not going to break down the same in water.
In the spring, lawns love a bit of nitrogen and through the summer too as long as it's not to warm. I would go on at the full rate
Round about August I would start to ease off on the nitrogen
The sulphate of ammonia is @ 21 percent if it's applied at 2.5g per m2
To apply it at say 10 percent, simply cut that in half 1.2g (approximately)
During the winter either drop the ammonia down to less than 4-5 percent or cut it altogether
@@Premier_lawns_official Awesome, thanks Robbie. It does say it's water dissolvable.
'This fertiliser can “scorch” plants if applied directly onto them. It is common to be fork it into the soil around the plants, or mixed with water and sprayed over them as a diluted solution to minimise this.'
If I've got some left i'll give it a go overnight as you suggest in the previous video. I'll report back with the findings.
UPDATE: I don't have any left, so i'll order a 500g bag & try it.
Best to contact them directly about what the best rate is as that's a different product than what I was using, keep yourself right :)
If you want some green and no black put less iron in 👍
Thanks robbie appreciate it
👍👍
When adding the products together do you need to add all the water amounts together as well?
Yes, follow the water rate 👍
Hi Robbie great video. Just to clarify you would mix the items separately with their own water rate then dump them in the same sprayer? Then add the seaweed dose to the final amount in the sprayer? So say you have 10litres of the mixed product in the sprayer you then add the correct dose of seaweed for the 10 litres? No extra water for the seaweed?
Hi Robbie, Great advice thank you. Also I’m thinking of buying an electric Scarifyer/aerater instead of hiring a petrol one each time. Are the electric ones any good? I’m looking at the 1800cc Hyundai
It will depend on your lawn, if it was me I would much prefer to hire it assuming my lawn was a reasonable size.

I'm sorry, I don't know to be honest. Not for forte
How soon would you recommend mowing an overseeded lawn please?
I always recommend leaving it for a few weeks
After a few weeks my original grass would be over 12 inches long. I overseeded in May and mowed 2 weeks later using a cheap rotary, on a fairly high setting. Now mowing at usual height on my cylinder..4 weeks after overseeding. I just couldn't leave it any longer as visually it would look awful going into summer.
Hi Robbie
Can I spray Ammonium Sulphate and Ferrous Sulphate together at the same time.
Cheers
Yes, of course, some seaweed too. Go for the magic mix
Yes bought all 3 products on your recommendation. Great video as I have been buying granular fertiliser and prices are going through the roof!
Keep up the great work.
@@billholden1181 prices were starting to come down and then Russia stopped the grain deal, so now they are going back up!
Silly question time- how about using diluted adblue as a liquid fertiliser?
Amonia Sulphate safe to use on a newly overseeded lawn?
Good question, yes I'm sure you could. But the question should really be should you?
100 per cent the seaweed and iron, maybe leaving the Ammonia until the new seed gets established
Fertiliser should display the which indicates the percentage of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K)
Look for a starter fertiliser with a higher P or K number
Ammonia is the (N)
For new grass you want something that has plenty of (p) or (k)
Ammonia doesn't have any of those.
Do you have a link for you’re sprayer please

Love the vids! So this gives you nitrogen and you add seaweed extract and iron... but no need for the P and K in NPK then??? Real noob wants to know what to put on in spring, in summer and autumn by way of mix.... ;-)
The golf course where I filmed about the seaweed only uses sulphate of ammonia, sulphate of iron and seaweed in the spring, summer and autumn
In the winter they take the sulphate of ammonia out of the mix

Hi, like other comments I appreciate you video but am struggling with the quantities.
Per 100m sq
Ammonium Sulphate, 250gms diluted in 6 litres. That’s ok
Iron Sulphate, 200gms diluted in 100 litres.
Thanks
Lee watch this video, it should really help you
th-cam.com/video/NIIVETuKDek/w-d-xo.html
The application rate for iron is based on area of lawn and the amount of water is incidental. Work out volume of water needed to pass over the lawn three times and add the total m2 application rate for your lawn to this amount of water.
Great video but if I use these three products, how do I kill weeds as none of them do that I assume ?
No, use a weed killer separately 👍

Hello Robbie wanting to try this mix but worried about how safe it is for dogs conflicting info on the internet
A bit of common sense goes a long way, it should be safe as long as you keep the dog off it for a while
If it's a pup or eats grass, then a bit longer
what percent of iron mines 18 always seaweed too and chicken manure tea
I don't understand your question
sorry was asking strengh of iron
I love your videos so much I smashed the subscribe button.
Watched this but can’t get my head around your application rate of 2.5g per sq mtr of sulphate of ammonia when packaging on almost all of this product states 25g per sq mtr.
I’m confused
Liquid fertilisers are taken up by the plant right away. That is why the amount needed is much lower. If you put on more it would burn
So, if you use a liquid you see the results much faster as it gets into the lawn right away
On the other hand, a granular takes a while to break down and become available to the plant
And it's not all available right away, it might take a few weeks or even months for it all to get released.
Wow really impressed with the answer and how quickly it came Robbie. Much appreciated !!!

Dave, the water rate is 0.06 litres per square meter (L/m²), then for 100 square meters (m²) you will need
0.06 L/m² * 100 m² = 6 litres
@@Premier_lawns_official it's the iron you put in I can't fathom..Say's 1 litre of water per sq metre... confused...
@@davegill7614 let's go back to basics, if your unsure do a test patch, spray and leave for 24 hours, for the Pro-Kleen...

Turf hardening 3-4 grams per square meter
Blacken the moss 3-5 grams per square meter

The Sulphate of iron for green up, states 1-2g per m2 and says to mix in 1lt of water per m2. So for a 100 m2 lawn it would be 100-200g in 100lt of water?! That’s a lot of refills of my knapsack! in the video you mention the 1-2g rate but now the water amount. Can you advise please? Cheers mate.

Cheers Robbie. 😂 keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@ryant5016 Using Robbie's calculations of .06 litres of water per metre squared, you'd need 6 litres of water on a 100 square metre lawn.
So with the iron you would add 100/200g to the 6 litres of water?
Hi Robbie! All the other ammonia sulphate brands I've seen state an application rate of 35 g/m² every 4-6 weeks, how come this is only 2.5 g/m² when they are also NPK 21-0-0?
This is soluble. Your meant to spray it on
@@Premier_lawns_official But that doesn't change how much nitrogen is going on to the lawn, does it? it's still 21% of 2.5g compared to 21% of 35g per square meter? Sorry if I'm missing something.
Good question, hopefully this answers it for you
Liquid fertilisers are in a dissolved or suspended form, which makes the nutrients readily available for plant uptake.
@@Premier_lawns_official That's a brilliant answer, thanks very much!!
@@AESamuel happy to help 😁
Is the formula in the video correct? Don't you divide the 25kg (25000g) by 10000 to get kg/m2. Not the other way round.
What does the sulphate of ammonia do to the grass ?
Provides nitrogen and sulphur nutrients. Also, burns the grass if you overapply and/or not water it to wash it down from leaves
