Back before community service was a common punishment, a local judge handed out an ideal punishment to a high school boy in our small town. He has pulled the fire alarm in school to get out of class. He did it on two occasions. The judge ordered him to paint all of the fire hydrants in town. It took him weeks to do this daily after school under supervision of DPW. Everyone in town knew why he was doing it and there were no more false alarms pulled.

I watched the Eyedrops trial. The victim's bank account was methodically drained, payments on loans and credit cards in the victim's name were coming due and, crucially, during the hospital visit just before the death, the poisoning went undetected. That Hernan died when she did was no accident. There was no family -- the "nephew" was the son of the deceased's friend just as Jessy herself was the daughter of the deceased's friend. That young man remained on the will even as Jessy spent down the estate and delayed settling it. He's the hero of this case -- he didn't fall for Jessy's lies and manipulations.

The fact his sentence has now been reduced is disheartening. I can tell you now he will be walking the streets in ten years again.

By my mid-20s, catcalling was extremely rare and younger people I've talked to also said it happens to them only rarely. I'm glad to say it seems to be decreasing!

Risk determination is very difficult to do accurately. For example in 1973 when I was 16 I was mugged with a gun to the back of my head while he hit and touched me. The person also molested 3 little 12 year old girls and another teenager of 18. As the perp was 17 at the time in 1973 the trial was in juvenile court which meant he was getting out at 21. I had nightmares for years. It was only when he was finally sentenced to life in prison after he murdered and buried the bodies in his backyard, that I felt safe. Should he have been tried as an adult? Should he have been monitored after release? As the victim I want him behind bars so I can finally feel safe. As a retired attorney at 67 now, my viewpoint has changed to reflect the complexity of the issues. (Sorry for the long comment) I just don't know the answer.

If you want your evening ruined just check the explanation the appeal court gives for the reduced sentence. Basically they concluded the sentence was too long because, since the attack was so violent she was probably knocked out pretty early on so the original judge could not claim that there was “aggravated suffering”, even though he made despicable things to her during those 9 minutes. Kid you not. Probably the most appalling ruling i’ve read in a while.

I'm not sure what you've learned or read recently about Canada's bail system, but I think you, Ana, would be incredibly disheartened. Locally we had violent drug offenders released here and these 5 individuals are now arrested and charged with murder & conspiracy against a 17 year old boy

I lived in a nice area and nearby a nature reserve, but between the ages of ~8-13 I had multiple experiences of grown men jumping out of bushes in walkways and running for my life, a homeless man who tried to drag me into a bush, a man who stood outside a restaurant window watching my parents and I eat dinner and then 5 minutes later being escorted to our table by a server as he told her he was with us.

    To answer Dr. Tamborra's question:
I believe that men masturbating or public indecency is still occurring but do to the level of cameras now it has slowed down. I'm currently a 35 year old woman that lives in a smaller town outside of Portland,Or. At 19, a friend of mine and I were walking home from the store at about 2am. We were walking through an empty parking lot , we saw a man about our age at the time sitting on a curb bent over. He appeared at a distance to be in pain or so we thought. As we got closer to him , I asked "Are you ok??" The guy raised up revealing that he was masturbating, he continued for a moment then stood up walking towarda us. My friend and I took off runninf as fast as we could to get away from the situation. Unfortunately , we did not call the police but we did make it back to my house safely.

As someone under 30, I've never been flashed. Very rarely have I had anything inappropriate said to me. Most of the time, it's a polite 'You look nice' or 'Are you dating anyone'.
Honestly, with how most women are, or should be, armed with a deterrent, those are dice I wouldn't want to roll as a guy.

Ana you should absolutely not feel bad about how you reacted as a teen when you were being harassed. The person that should be ashamed of how they acted should be the police officer. The grown ass TRAINED adult whose literal job was to help you should be so ashamed at blowing you off. I do think it’s getting better though. People seem less tolerant of that kind of behavior and more likely to take it seriously.

Back then is was called "streaking" and we endured it bc it was a huge popular song " The Streak." Streaking happened on football fields, major events. I saw 2 when I was under 15. Was one the classic streaker running down a main road. Other was a perv who asked a kid for directions, I leaned in to tell him. He flashed me with a coat and drove away hurting my head as he drove as I was leaning with my arms on his driver side window.. I didn't call bc I thought the would see it as a streaker. I didn't know the difference from the song too. Weird Al did a parody on it called "The Leak." Both were disgusting songs.

SHE'S NOT 12!!!! HOW FAR FETCHED IS THAT? HOW CHILDISH IS THAT? WHY BURY EVIDENCE IN A PARK??? THAT'S THE MOST ABSURD THING I HAVE EVER HEARD!

Lyn had tan out of money but the condo she lived in and life insurance money was left still. That is what Jessie wanted. I don’t believe the young man was Lyn’s real nephew but was like her real family. Lyn didn’t have children. Of course Lyn was sad n depressed. Jessie slowly killed her.

When the bus stopped at my stop I went to get off and I told the bus driver and the guy was just like :/ Why didn't you say anything sooner? The fella in the UK that murdered after being released will be given a proper life term now, meaning he'll never be released again, but that don't do no good for the poor lass that was murdered
And it's not quite the same here as some will probably know, over here you kill someone and most you get is 25 years but if you go out and kill someone again it's then a life term, or at least that's how it seems to work out, it's only the absolutely worst of the worst that get an actual life term over here
