- The facelifted (LCI=Life cycle Impluse) 2021 BMW 5 Series brings an infusion of modernity into the popular midsized luxury sedan. Checking out this 2021 540i xDrive at BMW of Ridgefield was more than a treat, and so was the STUNNING Carbon Black exterior paint, 19in M sport wheels and shadowline exterior trim pack!
This 2021 540i xDrive with the M Sport package came in around $72k and still was not done with options like adaptive cruise, executive rear seating and loads more.

Well aware that this is not a equal comparison as the 2021 is a M sport package 540i and the 2020 is a non M sport 540i, this is what was at my disposal at the time! This video is to highlight the main visual component changes between the pre LCI and the LCI like the headlights, taillights and front fascia.
I would be happy with either one of them.
BMW knows that huge grills cannot be put on the five series..

Good video but de headlight comparison is not that fair. Your pre-lci model has just the standard led lights while your lci-model has the adaptive led lights. The standard led-lights on the lci-model are just 2 little horizontal stripes and look in my opinion less special than the round leds of the pre-lci
Brian Kloeck Actually, the previous generation had adaptive headlights before. However, the new model has the previous optional icon led headlights as standard. Also, the previous generation had burn type turn signals.
Divergent Plosive you mean by previous generation the F10 ? Indeed the standard g30 pre-lci headlights look like the adaptive f10 lci headlights. But with no adaptive function

I just got my 2020 530E M sport Xdrive. It is a Beautiful car and i can highly recommenden. It is way more fun driving this BMW compared with E class. Love this car.

I would say the old circle halo light is more iconic, because 5 series is the first car in the world to use the halo light, or some call it angle eyes on their E39 generation 5 series. They set a trendiness into the car industry with these iconic 4 circles halo light, but now, it's like they are using some aftermarket parts from VW or Jaguar, they changed from a trend setter to a follower. Maybe you are too young to understand how hard can it be for a die hard 5 series lover to accept their new design, but we couldn't change anything.
Image when you driving at night, you could tell it's a 5 series coming towards you instantly by look into their iconic 4 circles halo light even it's 2 miles away, but with these new halo light, you can't tell them apart from a VW or Jaguar.
I definitely understand this! I remember the halo light era especially with the E39 era, its an iconic look. I feel with the F90 pre LCI gen they did that half halo half more angular design to wean people off of it a bit to get people more used to this new L shaped design that is very very similar to the new Jaguar XF headlights. I dont dislike it at all but it puts way more of a visual focus on the kidney grille instead of the headlights now.
As a previous owner of a facelifted E39 with the first angel eyes and now an F10 with xenon angel eyes I agree with every word you say! They are iconic.

I own BMW 5 Series 2019. I dont like the new Model because it looks like Skoda Superb Sportline, especially with those Wheels.

I’ve just changed from a 2016 520 M Sport to 2020 530 M Sport.
One thing I’ve noticed is the seats are now smaller (narrower and lower at the shoulder).

@@mikelsenrajdevathanjam2429 Yes it will, for 2020 they updated the infotainment system to Drive 7, meaning you get all the features as the new one. The only difference is that. the 2021 version has a 12.3-inch screen, and the 2020 has a 10.25-inch screen.
@@mikelsenrajdevathanjam2429 Yeah there are a few ones to touch on. Firstly, idrive 7 and especially the massive 12.3 inch display. I was so surprised how big it was in person. Also the looks are incredible! Those are the main things.

Frankly speaking I like the pre-lci which I have. The front grill has become too big and toothy. They should have gone all out and done the 4 series treatment to the grill which does indeed stand out. This pre-lci does not have the adaptive LEDs and rather the old style halos which look a bit dated. The adaptive LEDs on the pre-lci look much better and it is a tie in comparison to the lci, though with the slimmer design and larger grills of the redesign, I am preferring the pre-lci. I agree on the larger screen in the interior being a bit overpowering the interior experience. Overall it brings the car closer to the new BMW design philosophy however it doesn't work for me. Thanks for the overview and comparison, good video.
More piano black is NOT a good thing. That's my only complaint with the facelift.

Well I came here expecting to learn a bit more about the mild hybrid gimmick (THE main difference between these two) and how the driving experience is affected, but all I learnt is about some cosmetic differences...

That is a pretty poorly spec'd 540i with a basic 520d headlights...
The Adaptive LED headlights on the previous gen looks great too!
And the previous gen you got there is actually a mild facelifted MY19.
The original G30 is different again in term of the interiors
The headlights has nothing to do with the engines power. It comes to the choice of the owner which kind of headlights BMW builds into the car 🤦♂️

The old has update the I drive to I drive 7. Even the 2020 3 series updated to I drive 7
umm correction i don't think it has shadowline trim, the front grill would have been black, the air breather and the tail pipe finishers would have been black as well which is another money squeezer by Beemer. What you are mentioning must be just M package feature. Overall very informative and good to see the comparison with the last gen

You can put the new taillights, saw a 2018 M5 with the new taillights like a month ago. It almost fooled me until I saw the front. You cannot change the headlights, not without changing the whole bumper at least.

You cant compare the Previous one with the facelifted one because you brought the non LED ADAPTIVE lights (in the Previous) which add much more aggressive look in the car

Hate the front LCI headlights, remind me of Volkswagen/Audi headlamps. BMW is known for having dual round headlight/halo’s, they fucked up

In my view it’s not fare comparison. Headlights are significant change, you should have picked the 2020 car with adaptive headlights. It seems like you are comparing with 6th generation car in terms of headlights.

if you chose the "luxury line" or m-pakage with the LED instead of those xenon rings it would be a fair and better comparison.

how is it silly 😂 I’m comparing a facelifted 5 series and pre facelift. I clearly stated these were different trims. They did not have a pre facelift 540i in M sport trim for me to compare. They have the same engine the only difference is the appearance 😂 Where is your comparison video huh?
