so the first song i ever heard from him was big black car but after listening to a majority of his songs I can say this one is my absolute favorite the line “just your smile lit a 60 watt bulb in my house that was darkened for days” is just beautiful
When the wine stops working And you're all run out And all of your high hopes have all headed south And the songs left the stable and they never came home And there ain't no forgetting that you're out on your own Turned the scrub oaks to timber and you're left without friends And you don't put your book down even after it ends Smoke curls up from the table in your quiet little room And your heart's worn the handle of an old pushing broom Broken bottles shine just like stars, make a wish anyway Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house That was darkened for days Been thinking you probably should stay When the going is long gone And the kick drum won't kick When you fumble with your fiddle and you're fresh out of tricks And the horseflies are biting but the fish never do And your heart's a thousand colors but they're all shades of blue Broken bottles shine just like stars Make a wish anyway Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house That was darkened for days Been thinking you probably should stay Yeah, I think that you probably should stay And our dreams on the windowsill See those trees turning gold in the hills
Just heard this song at the end of the movie "The Discoverers" with Griffin Dunne and HAD to find it, there's no soundtrack for the movie so it took a little searching to find it. LOVE LOVE LOVE this song.... Love too that this vid was done here in Portland, OR, parts of the movie were also done here in OR. What a beautiful song!!
Ok, I finally had some time this evening, and listened to The Stable Song...followed by If I Go, I'm Going...OMG you were NOT kidding!! What a voice and what a delivery, his words and music are just gorgeous!!!
I think this is the right, balanced way to play this song. Guitar - violin - bass or cello. ASoB is a song that needs a little accompaniment to really shine, but not with five or six musicians like in Greg's latest videos. Good song solo, good with a lot of musicians, epic this way.
I concur. I saw him with his band and The Ghost Orchestra in Durham, NC and in Los Angeles, CA. I'll never forget the Durham concert. He asked for the house lights to be turned down and they obliged, he asked again and the audience began to laugh, again he asked and we were all cracking up. The entire auditorium went dark and then he broke into a solo acoustic version of The Universe. Unforgettable !
This has always been my favorite Isakov song, for the past ten years

I miss him playing this song in this original melody and style.
When the wine stops working
And you're all run out
And all of your high hopes have all headed south
And the songs left the stable and they never came home
And there ain't no forgetting that you're out on your own
Turned the scrub oaks to timber and you're left without friends
And you don't put your book down even after it ends
Smoke curls up from the table in your quiet little room
And your heart's worn the handle of an old pushing broom
Broken bottles shine just like stars, make a wish anyway
Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house
That was darkened for days
Been thinking you probably should stay
When the going is long gone
And the kick drum won't kick
When you fumble with your fiddle and you're fresh out of tricks
And the horseflies are biting but the fish never do
And your heart's a thousand colors but they're all shades of blue
Broken bottles shine just like stars
Make a wish anyway
Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house
That was darkened for days
Been thinking you probably should stay
Yeah, I think that you probably should stay
And our dreams on the windowsill
See those trees turning gold in the hills
Another beautiful song. Thank you Gregory

Debbie Mosley He is one of my top artists right now.
Love this song, and performance.. I think it would be epic done with just a piano and violin!
Absolutely beautiful

He did that when I saw him in 2015 in Atlanta. The venue was pitch dark and they performed that song. It was magic
Saw him in Ann Arbor huh? I've been a huge fan of his, would've loved to catch that, didn't know he even toured around the mitten!
Beautiful music
just perfect 💛💙
Great Tune!
Robert Downey Jr. is a great violin player
Anyone know what the green mic he's singing into is?
It's his harmonica microphone which he sometimes records voice on for something different.
Im pretty sure its in the key of D. The progession as far as I can tell is D, Bm, D, A, D
nice fingers--ya know---pickin
chords anyone?
