Thank you for your videos, Spa Guy! Through them, I am able to live, vicariously, my pursuit of Elvis. I first heard of Elvis probably in 1956 when I was 7 years old, living in Mannheim, Germany. My dad was career Army and we had been transferred there in 1956 for a four-year period, coming back to the states in May of 1960, two months after Elvis returned in March. One day my dad, who was a fan, decided we'd take a road trip to Bad Nauheim (maybe an hour and a half north of where we were) to see if we could find Elvis. That was either 1958 or 1959. Well, we found Elvis' house and he just happened to be home! After waiting around for a while, he finally came out on that stoop at the side of his house - you've seen the pictures. I couldn't believe I was looking at the man whose voice I had heard on all the records I had listened to. I remind you, I was not yet ten years old! All my favorite movie scenes kept running through my head as I gazed at the man right in front of me! From that time onward, it was Elvis this and Elvis that! A short time later, within a year of when Elvis returned to the states, we made another trip north and this time we caught Elvis as he was driving out of the main gate at Ray Barracks, this time in uniform. He pulled over! This time it was more up close and personal. We got pictures and autographs, something we were unable to do the first time we saw him. All good things must come to an end - because we weren't that far outside the main gate, one of the MPs started making his way toward us so we had to break it up and leave. :-( There is so much more, but I'm taking up a lot of space here. I am 68 years old and Elvis has been a major influence on my life for over 60 years!

How did the fire start ? It would be a shame to allow it to go to waste as it is a piece of history . Id love to see it back to its original state . complete with pool ! Is this included with Graceland ; do they own it ?
Diana Kraft The fire was a electrical fire. It is not owned by Graceland. It's owned by the guy that he mentions he wish was there Mike.
Also they have started repairing it because I was there a few days ago and they had already started.

I've been watching your videos for the last 6 months Thank you for the time and money you've spent on explaining the history of Elvis. I've always been a fan even though I was only 12 years old when Elvis Presley passed away, I use to watch the movies with my mother she was a fan also.

Thanks for thatSpa guy. We were at Gracelands in May this year. My third time. My wife's second time. We did the Tupelo and Memphis tours with Sue and Mike Freeman. That couple are amazing, the things that they showed us and their ensiclopedic knowledge of Elvis's life and the places that he spent time at. At one point of Sue took usthere was a lady
Sue on the memphis tour took us to a street directly bordering Graceland and showed us the house belonging to a lady who wrote a book called Over the fence. It was about Elvis reaching an agreement with her to use her back garden and house to escape fans at his gates when he wanted privacy. I can't find the book on line. I have the impression that Elvis lived the best days of his life in this house. It was the beginning of his career, things were still new to him, and Gladys was alive. Looking at this house comes to mind a rainy day with Gladys happy in the kitchen preparing biscuits for Elvis and Vernon chatting excitedly waiting at the table. This is the image and the feeling I have every time I see this house.
I feel the wind of youth always winding on Audubon Drive 1034.

i was there about three weeks ago and a couple of guys were taking stuff out of the house and throwing it in a truck. i asked them how bad the damage was and they said it was real bad. when i was there last year there was a young film crew inside and myself and my friends got invited in and we were given a full tour of inside the house and they allowed us to take all the pics we wanted. i visited the cadillac dealership and had a pic done there thanks to your detective work! when i go back next year i will be having pics taken in a lot more locations thanks to your brilliant videos

He didn't actually buy a house for them, but agreed to pay the mortgage payments for her mother when ginger's parents divorced. He also paid for landscaping and a pool in the house they already lived in.

Imagine if Elvis could see the cars we have today...he would go bonkers! Though personally I think cars were nicer then...though Elvis didn't seem to go for the muscle cars...he loved his cadillac's!

MaMa worked at Collettas Café there, sometime prior to me being born in Memphis in 1956
Elvis came in with some young friends one day and as boys do , they were being cute in front of the girls. MaMa snubbed her nose at them.........and I never let her forget it!! hahahaha
Elvis got in a fight with some guy in front of my dads work place. The old Hull Dobbs Ford there in Memphis.

Excellent as always .. Hoping to get back to Memphis next year sometime from the UK... Just wanted to add i was there when the pool was being removed and the builders came out and gave me and my friend some of the tiles from the pool .. still have them today.

Great work, as always! Hopefully, someday, you’ll be able to get a tour of this house (and I will look forward to seeing it!). I do recall hearing years ago that an owner of the house had discovered and (I believe) restored the musical themed wallpaper that Elvis had installed in the foyer. If that is true, then it likely (and sadly) sustained damage from the fire . Keep up the great work!

Awesome video as always Billy. I did some research & found out that the salesman that sold Elvis his ‘56 Continental at Miami Lincoln was a guy named Lade Conlee. He passed away in 1966 and, If I remember correctly, is buried in Memphis. Wondering if you would be interested in visiting his gravesite in Memphis. Thank you Billy. Blessings.

Thanks bro for your wonderful EP history vids. What I wouldn't give for a time machine. My grandfather sharecropped land rented from the same man who owned the land Vernon sharecropped on in Tupelo. My g/f says he thinks he remembers seeing a very young EP standing up in the backseat of VP's car at the local general store also owned by the landowner. I worked at the Univ. Park Hotel & Suites in SLC, UT for a man who went to junior high school w/ EP in Memphis.

He was the manager of the restaurant at the University Park Hotel & Suites in Salt Lake City, Utah in the summer of 1991 I think. He brought his school annual to work and showed my young Elvis standing in third row on school steps for their class picture in the early 50's. Elvis had his hair slicked back is all I remember.
Love watching these videos! General question - why do you think think we love this amount of detail? Do fans of other celebrities have a similar fascination for such detail? I doubt it. To answer my own question I just think the whole back Story 2 Elvis's career is just so fascinating. Considering it was so much more difficult to take pictures in those days it's amazing how many exist and how many older fans have obviously been happy to share their photographs. Long live the fascination!
Hello Mark, I am not sure why the Elvis Phenomenon exists but it does.. For me as a kid reading all of the books and magazines and imagining where this all took place it finishes the stories in my imagination and I figured it would do the same for others.. Thats why I make these.. I went to Memphis and Graceland the first time in 1988 and filmed then but the video quality was not good so i never shared them, when I got HD quality cameras I started making a lot of videos.. Not Elvis related though just different subjects.. Then about 8 months ago I was in Memphis where my daughter lives and stopped by Graceland and decided to fly my drone over Vernon's house next door.. I posted that video and it got a lot of views and comments so I decided to start doing Elvis videos again.. I am really enjoying telling the stories.. Yes Long live the fascination.. Spa Guy
