23:30 This is the best part of the whole episode. Mark is basically the kid who picks last in the prizes booth. Brea gets the biggest bag of chips and soda even though she does not know what to do with it. Wil gets the second best, 3 bags of Mentos but still considers it to be the best prize because, well, he simply loves them. Allie gets the third best, gets a full bar of Cadbury but since she loves chocolate, doesn't find that bad in the slightest. And Mark, even though he knows how to utilize the top 3 prizes to their fullest potential, gets stuck with candy corn.
To be honest, Mark's strategy is best for a long game. Due to the fact the game is shorter due to it being on easy mode, a straightforward "punch through" strategy is good enough.
Except he was buying Maria when there were other Recruit 2 heroes with additional abilities available for the same cost. He totally shortchanged himself.
"I was playing this game called Legendary and I was gonna win but then I bought a lot of Marias instead." Paraphrased from Mark's Draw My Life video :) Love you, Mark!

TheCrosshare A tangy lasagna. Well layered, from the thoughtful first spread of gently flavoured beef in a quiet marinara, through the freshly made strips of pasta, and the generously spooned ricotta, to the crisped at the edges - but not burnt - melted cheese. The only question I have is shall - nay dare! - I take a corner piece, stealing two crispy edges of the thoughtfully mixed mozzarella and Maytag Blue cheese, or forgo the crisp, and take the center piece, focusing instead on the carefully melted mixture playing softly on my palate? Regardless, 'tis a sensation not to be passed by for being a "mere pasta," rather appreciated for its subtle complexities in its simple form.

One of my biggest issues with this game is that it has a seriously limited amount of art. It really baffles my mind that with all the colorful scenes these characters are depicted in from their comics, each hero only has a single piece of artwork to be shared with every single one of their cards! Even the Masterminds don't get different artwork! It's a fun game, don't get me wrong, but one of the reasons I like DC Deck Builder so much is because of that varied artwork just makes it so enjoyable to look at.
For whatever it's worth, they did fix that art problem in the expansions. However, those are just that: expansions. On the other, other hand, they're great expansions to a great game.
imaloony8 Trust me, the more you play it, the happier you are the art for each character was the same. Especially during tear down at the end of the game.
imaloony8 Only in the very first set. They listened to the complaint and every single expansion since then has a lot of different art. The expansions really make the game a lot better.
VoicesOfChaos That's good to hear. I was a little gunshy on buying any new expansions, but since I know that now, I think I'll pull the trigger on one or two.
Awesomely fun episode and game! Two minor things it would be nice to correct for fans that pick this game up and start playing - 1.) Venom can be defeated by anyone with Covert, the red icon means covert, not Spider-Man universe, and 2.) When told to KO a card you can only KO from your hand or the table (just played during your turn) , not from the discard pile unless the discard pile is specifically mentioned. In the later expansions, understanding the difference between hand, table (played) and discard pile can be critical.

Exactly the same for me. Previously I have been and still are a 32 year Games Workshop veteran and I would play the odd board game etc but since seeing this video the first time in summer 2015 when I found this channel. Wil Wheaton has a lot to answer for, lol. All hail Wil Wheaton for making board games and card games cool
Calle Andén Replace the Nick Fury poster over your bed with a Maria Hill. Name your first born daughter Maria. Binge watch How I Met Your Mother. Oh wait you said solve it... sorry, no idea.
It's true. Wil, Mark, Allie and Brea all won the game as a team. A superhero team. It's just that, in the context of that superhero team, Allie was the Hulk, Wil was Iron Man, Brea was Captain America and Mark... was Hawkeye. 25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdp16wPOKK1qgwhsto3_250.gif 24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mdp16wPOKK1qgwhsto4_250.gif
Also, yes. It's punching time. Punch O'Clock. In other words... *_IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!_* (I can't believe that no-one caught that... Then again, they didn't have a lot of Fantastic Four stuff in this game, was there? Did they have any Fantastic Four heroes or just the Skrulls? Huh...)
confushisushi Yeah, I would think that they would have to include the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel's most iconic superhero teams, in this game. But in this video, they went through a lot of cards, including multiple iterations of the same characters, and not only did no-one from the Fantastic Four show up but Captain America and Thor didn't either; so I'm guessing that they just didn't include a lot of different characters in the game set, choosing to highlight a few separate heroes instead. Then again, I don't think that we saw Spider-Man either - nor Wolverine, except illustrated on the wound card - so maybe you're right and they just missed some.
PowerMindAlchemist With 4 players you select (randomly or otherwise) 5 super-characters to bring into the game. There is then 14 cards of each hero which you can recruit. They listed the one they were going to use at teh start of the video. Also, Fantastic Four is in an expansion and not a part of the base game which mostly consists of Avengers and X-men.
So what counts as being in a certain universe because you said Black Widow can be used to take down Venom because shes apparently from the Spider Man Universe but Deadpool has done teamups with Spider-Man and I personally consider Spider-Man to be Deadpools 2nd best henchman, behind Wolverine of course, and yet he cant?
Tim Slack I think it's something to do with Black Widow originating in a Spiderman comic and probably because Deadpool doesn't have a spider in his name.
TheRealPentigan see that I didnt know, Black Widow originating in Spiderman, and the whole Spider theme name didnt register with me until you said that.
Tim Slack He misspoke. You don't need a Spider-man hero to beat Venom. You need a Covert class type of hero. It is one of 5 classes or colors that a hero can be.
Tim Slack In the comics there was a great time where Deadpool fused with Hybrid (A combination of four different colored Venom Symbiotes) to go beat the ever living hell out of Carnage and Venom because he was bored.
I've been waiting for this episode for so long! Legendary is a great game, and Markiplier is one of my favorite TH-camrs! I'm glad this episode finally came out! :D
I tend to view the decks as the collection and dissemination of information and coordinating between the heroes and troopers. So when you have a punchy Spider-Man card in your hand SHIELD is passing information to him to deal with something.
Mark was playing Dominion while everyone else was playing Legendary. Or in Dominion terms, Mark was still buying villages and gold while someone already hoovered all the provinces.
My name is Maria. So I am so entertained by this. They all kept bringing up "Maria" and I couldn't stop smiling. PLUS MARKIPLIER SAID MY NAME!!!! REPEATEDLY!!!
Also at the end, the final Red Skull sits in a chair on his submarine, suddenly, crashing down through the ceiling of the Sub comes Mark, he snaps his fingers and a gaggle of Maria Hill’s appear behind him, guns at the ready, the red skull is promptly arrested
I'm so glad they played this. I get requests for this to hit the table more than anything lately. It's a great meld of flavor and mechanics. I'll pipe in with a couple of clarifications to the video, though. Most of the on-screen rules text is correct, but Will makes a couple mistakes: 1) To beat Venom, you need a character with the Covert class symbol in the upper left corner, not a "Spider-Man universe" character. 2) An effect that tells you to KO a character, by default, only applies to the cards in your hand or that you have played to the table that turn. Some cards allow you to KO a card in the discard pile, but those are exceptions. 3) Also, they would be better off replacing a Hero each time before recruiting another in the same turn, because something better might come off the deck.
Andrew Humphries People can still buy it, just not easily, sure. But ya... it's more than just them showing off games for people to buy, but to show off the fun of board games and whatnot.
Andrew Humphries That didn't stop them from playing "Epic Spell Wars...etc." when it was out of print... In fact, many of the games they play are out of print and then come back into print because of the demand fostered by this show.
The God Emperor But not Guards! Guards! from the same set. What an abysmal game. Just... just stay away, I warn you. I personally find the end-game of Discworld: Ankh-Morpork a little annoying, but it is a pretty fun game, especially for a Terry Pratchett fan.
Radish Raccoon I don't think the end game is so bad. Especially if you're the guy who wants to draw out the deck :P It's fun to do all you can to screw the other players over while you work to empty the deck. Makes you chaotically fun.
I can just imagine Red Skull sitting on that couch (in a jail cell) shaking his fist yelling, "You win this round, Wil Wheaton!" Then continuing to rant saying, "And Allie Brosh... And Brea Grant... And Mark Fischbach... Ironically I'm a big fan of Markiplier, espeically his Five Night's at Freddy's videos. And I wonder how many people realize Will Wheaton played Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation..."
nicoburbs Wil actually discussed this a few years back on a vlog. It's because they are too solitary, so you don't really get the discussions of strategy or banter you would get in a game with more direct conflict. But i guess since Legendary is co-op so they can discuss strategy and talk about each others decks that problem doesn't apply.
nicoburbs So from personal experience, something like Dominion is a much more subdued affair than Legendary because you're not really discussing how you're going to play your hand with others. That makes for pretty boring video. Even if everyone describes their actions each turn, it's like "Okay, you did that, it has no real consequences for what I do, next player's turn." This is less of a problem for something like Ascension (although I haven't played it with friends), but there's another problem with most deck-builders: most of the time, the hands are secret. This is a problem for filming, since Tabletop doesn't use hand cameras like they do for poker tournaments. There's also the issue in both Ascension and Dominion that, while competitive, you're basically playing against the board, not directly against the other players. You can make your opponents discard cards from their hand, and you can limit your opponents options in Ascension, but in general that's the limit of your interaction with them. There are no real blocking plays in either.
It's so weird, because I watch this and see Allie Brosh is a real person, not a pink, rectangular-bodied person with a white, circular face and a yellow triangle for hair and I just.... don't get it.
Me: hears “wait for it, legendary”. Also me: *starts singing the how I met your mother theme. BAPA BOP PAA PAA, BABABAA, Baa PA PA, PAPAPABOPA-PA-PA-PA, PAPAPAPA
Wil knows how to get me to watch even more of his videos... Jesse Cox, John Bain, and Mark Fischbach. Good job, Mr. Wheaton. See you at BlizzCon 2015 on my computer screen. :)
Matt Cox My guess is that outside of a coop game, there's very little interaction between players. In Dominion, for example, a player's action is primarily focused on their deck and the resources left available. With the exception of Attack cards, very little of what they do has a direct effect on others. Something like that probably wouldn't be great for a show where a big component is not the game, but the back and forth of its players
Matt Cox since I don't know the games you are talking about, I'm not quite sure, but I think it might be that other deck builders might not be very interesting to watch, if you don't see the decks of the players all the time and if you don't get the strategy they are playing. But I also don't get why he says that tanto quore wouldn't work, because there is a video of a lifestream where they played tanto quore on this chanel and I think it worked quite good.
Matt Cox There's the problem as well of how interesting an individual players turn is in a deck building game. There's a definite ramp up time. Having played Legendary, I can tell that its pretty obvious that multiple rotations of player turns must have been skipped between what they show in the video, especially in the beginning, because those early turns mostly would've consisted of "oh I have x recruitment and x attack, and those are my only options because I haven't added much to my deck yet".
Matthew Hutton I get that and that's the case for most deck builders. They should have done Eminent Domain. The players interact on every turn and it's interesting from the very beginning.
Hurray! It's finally out, thank you so much for having me on the show! Also... IT'S A LEGITIMATE STRATEGY!! :P

"Deadpool. It's the ONE thing that Rob Leifeld's done that I don't fXXXing HATE."
Oh Will... I forgive you for the dread pirate Wesley years.
I started my board game collection because of you guys. I have Dead of winter, Last night on earth, mansions of madness, Gloom, Munchkin, Cards against humanity, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, Betrayal at house on the hill, and many more. I love your show and I wish I had more people to play these games with. Back in college, we would have game nights, now after graduating, I am alone with my games. :(
Exactly the same for me. Previously I have been and still are a 32 year Games Workshop veteran and I would play the odd board game etc but since seeing this video the first time in summer 2015 when I found this channel. Wil Wheaton has a lot to answer for, lol. All hail Wil Wheaton for making board games and card games cool
How do you solve a problem like Maria addiction?
Calle Andén Buy more Marias.
Calle Andén Replace the Nick Fury poster over your bed with a Maria Hill. Name your first born daughter Maria. Binge watch How I Met Your Mother. Oh wait you said solve it... sorry, no idea.
Calle Andén It's tough, I'll tell ya. To capture just one Maria sometimes takes as many as eight trapps.
Next: How to deal with your Master of the House addiction.
Tetsujin Somebody gets it!
saw Mark, clicked on it
Afonso Luiz same
Same. I replayed the milisecond moment in the intro where he says "do stupid stuff" over and over, just the way he says it is so funny.
MARKS FACE AS HE SAID "Do stupid stuff" IS PRICELESS!
same
I saw Mark and Wil in the same video and was like "YESSSS PLEASE"
The last time I heard Wil's voice was when I listened to him reading Ready Player One.
Everything he says sounds so dramatic now. I'm so excited.
It's true. Wil, Mark, Allie and Brea all won the game as a team. A superhero team. It's just that, in the context of that superhero team, Allie was the Hulk, Wil was Iron Man, Brea was Captain America and Mark... was Hawkeye.

Also, yes. It's punching time. Punch O'Clock. In other words... *_IT'S CLOBBERIN' TIME!_*
(I can't believe that no-one caught that... Then again, they didn't have a lot of Fantastic Four stuff in this game, was there? Did they have any Fantastic Four heroes or just the Skrulls? Huh...)
PowerMindAlchemist Like he said the cards are randomized, so I'm just assuming they didn't make the cut.
confushisushi Yeah, I would think that they would have to include the Fantastic Four, one of Marvel's most iconic superhero teams, in this game.
PowerMindAlchemist Mark was Maria Hill
I hate when they cut and we have to figure out what the hell happend between the cuts
***** They should do way more uncut extra episodes!
+deadserenity95 Cough cough *extended*
QuantumLolliepop Im obviously not a real fan :'(
deadserenity95 Neither am I. I still can tell you to go to the extended videos if you want it uncut.
+QuantumLolliepop Do you happen to have a link to the extended Legendary episode? Google has failed me. :\
Miss this a bunch, thank you for getting me into the world of Tabletop Game
Mark's self-description was the best
So what counts as being in a certain universe because you said Black Widow can be used to take down Venom because shes apparently from the Spider Man Universe but Deadpool has done teamups with Spider-Man and I personally consider Spider-Man to be Deadpools 2nd best henchman, behind Wolverine of course, and yet he cant?
Tim Slack I think it's something to do with Black Widow originating in a Spiderman comic and probably because Deadpool doesn't have a spider in his name.
TheRealPentigan
see that I didnt know, Black Widow originating in Spiderman, and the whole Spider theme name didnt register with me until you said that.
Tim Slack He misspoke. You don't need a Spider-man hero to beat Venom. You need a Covert class type of hero. It is one of 5 classes or colors that a hero can be.
Tim Slack Voice of Chaos is right, covert heroes can beat Venom. Actually some deadpool cards can beat Venom, cause he has some covert heroes.
Tim Slack In the comics there was a great time where Deadpool fused with Hybrid (A combination of four different colored Venom Symbiotes) to go beat the ever living hell out of Carnage and Venom because he was bored.
Markiplier was such a little cutie baby! X3 he was so excited to play! So happy!
Yay for Mark and Allie! :D I miss Hyperbole and a Half.
Can we please bring Tabletop back! Please!
Whoa, Allie is so different from how I pictured her! The psychology of how people picture people based on their work must be a fascinating study.
I only came here due to markiplier's post on facebook but holy shit this channel is pretty cool so I subscribed :P
Allie! I miss her posts on hyperbole and a half....
crazy crossover man like i feel your favourite internet people are only ever a couple degrees of separation from your other favourite internet people
I've been waiting for this episode for so long!
Mark is too adorable for this world
I love how the whole intervention sounded like he was in an abusive relationship!
"You get to play your favourite avengers, like Hawkeye" -The bbt dude, 2017
My name is Maria. So I am so entertained by this. They all kept bringing up "Maria" and I couldn't stop smiling. PLUS MARKIPLIER SAID MY NAME!!!! REPEATEDLY!!!
Well it's a pretty generic name
Allie: I have 21!
Brea: I have 20!
Wil: I have 14!
Mark: I have 4!
XDXDXD
Holy shit I am such a huge Allie Brosh fan. So happy to see her with such famous faces! She absolutely deserves it!
did anyone else only watch this because mark was in it?
Negative, I won't watch this episode because Mark is in it.
Yes
yeah and I must admit I probably wont watch anymore of these just because the way its filmed makes it feel un natural
yup
Wait are there other people in the video or something
Oh my gosh marks wearing his lucky flannel
"I'd like to thank... the existence of points." Hilarious
GO FANFIC WRITERS! TO YOUR KEYBOARDS! A NEW TH-cam/MARVEL UNIVERSE LOVE STORY CROSSOVER FIC AWAITS YOU!
All I heard was "I like team games because everyone else does the work"
“Maria, I just met a girl named Maria, and suddenly that name, will never be the same MARIAAAA” Mark “Tony” Fishbach
Also at the end, the final Red Skull sits in a chair on his submarine, suddenly, crashing down through the ceiling of the Sub comes Mark, he snaps his fingers and a gaggle of Maria Hill’s appear behind him, guns at the ready, the red skull is promptly arrested
Brea Grant, it's her, from Heroes!
Kim muca The girls who could run superfast, Daphne Milbrook, who hung out with that Matt guy
Also from Dexter. Super hot.
*Literally the board game version of Avengers: Infinity War without Thanos*
I'm so glad they played this. I get requests for this to hit the table more than anything lately. It's a great meld of flavor and mechanics.
I'll pipe in with a couple of clarifications to the video, though. Most of the on-screen rules text is correct, but Will makes a couple mistakes:
1) To beat Venom, you need a character with the Covert class symbol in the upper left corner, not a "Spider-Man universe" character.
Poor Markimoo 😭
You guys need to play Discworld: Ankh-Morpork. Played it for the first time with friends this past weekend, was soooo fun! And perfect for Table Top
That one is officially out of print since the publisher lost the license for the franchise. Probably best not to use a game people can't buy now.
Oh, I like this episode! This is an interesting game.
...
Wait, IS THAT MARKIPLIER?!
OK I LOVE MARKIPLIER AND I LOVE WIL! THIS VIDEO IS EPIC
I enjoy the fact that in the background of the red skull card it says raynor
Like from Starcraft
Question: why wouldn't any other deck builder games (specifically Dominion) not work on the show? Just curious :)
nicoburbs I guess it has to do with the lack of theme. It would be hard to make the show exciting.
nicoburbs Probably because there is too much card variation that is hard to pick up on camera.
nicoburbs Wil actually discussed this a few years back on a vlog. It's because they are too solitary, so you don't really get the discussions of strategy or banter you would get in a game with more direct conflict. But i guess since Legendary is co-op so they can discuss strategy and talk about each others decks that problem doesn't apply.
nicoburbs dominion is too much strategy on the luck strategy scale so experienced players are too likely to win
nicoburbs So from personal experience, something like Dominion is a much more subdued affair than Legendary because you're not really discussing how you're going to play your hand with others.
The lack of dogs really confused me
I played this game back in 2013, it was my first deck builder. Loved it.
Sheldon Cooper requested that I deliver to you the following message ---> WHEEEAAAATOOOOOOON!
6:47 Who the hell spelled Choice with an S?!
wuurd
Tempest Wing i never noticed that until now
Inviting Mark again might be a good business strategy.
It would also be fun to watch.
Awww, that game looks AWESOME! I WANT IT!
How do you solve a problem like Maria?
With more cowbell of course!
9 inches of somthin' hard
are we playing cards against humanity? if so: BATMAN!
Relationship goals: have someone to play the tabletop games with
Who else is here for Allie?? :)
Meeeeeee
Me: hears “wait for it, legendary”.
Also me: *starts singing the how I met your mother theme. BAPA BOP PAA PAA, BABABAA, Baa PA PA, PAPAPABOPA-PA-PA-PA, PAPAPAPA
Wil knows how to get me to watch even more of his videos... Jesse Cox, John Bain, and Mark Fischbach. Good job, Mr. Wheaton. See you at BlizzCon 2015 on my computer screen. :)
Wil!!! We miss you! COME BACK!!! Tabletop, Ashes, SOMETHING!!!
I wonder why other deck builders, like Ascension and Dominion, don't work for the show. They are visually appealing and fun.
Matt Cox i was just thinking if they hadn't played coop its almost just like ascension in cosplay.
Matt Cox
My guess is that outside of a coop game, there's very little interaction between players.
The players interact on every turn and it's interesting from the very beginning.
this would have been even better if they were all wearing super hero costumes too LOL
Lol. Markiplier mixed up the Hand Clan and their TMNT parodies the Foot Clan small mix up but still funny
Undoubted
David Wofford Pretty sure that was the joke.
