  • In this episode I continue the restoration of what I believe to be a 1960 U.S. Molded Shapes, Inc. 16' home built boat by repairing the hull interior with fibeglass mat and epoxy resin.

    Tools and Materials Used:
    Makita 1-1/8 in. x 21 in. Belt Sander
    DeWalt 5 in. Random Orbital Hook and Loop Sander
    TotalBoat Epoxy Resin traditional
    TotalBoat Milled Glass Fiber

    Will those patches be visible in the finished product?

      No. I will fair them in further to form a smooth surface then cover with paint, inside and out.

    3M makes a premium marine filler with fiberglass strands in it (red label instead of the green label) … could that be used instead ???

      I try not to use any filler brand unless it is used to fair small voids or scratches. I wanted to make these patches strong and durable while spreading the load over a wide area. Maybe an overkill but I feel good about it.
