Sometimes "grown up" behaviors are too good to be true. Find out if you might be wasting your money with this video: th-cam.com/video/rQcro7m3dOA/w-d-xo.html.

    1. Make all of the appointments you have been putting off -daily, yearly, use your calendar!
    2. Get the right productivity tools to get stuff done
    3. Stock your "always need" items in bulk if possible\
    4. Make a few 70/30 calls with a few people
    5. Prep a whole week of breakfasts and lunches
    6. Have a bank checkup -- check your credit, establish a relationship with a banker
    7. Get rid of clothes you don't wear
    8. Make a cleaning spreadsheet
    9. Automate 3 things

Could you caption your videos? As a deaf person, I gain access to content of videos through captioning, and I have enjoyed learning more financially from your videos that do have captions on them, whereas I’m unable to learn from ones that do not provide them. Thanks!

@@gils100games hello genius hearing person: AUTO-captions can be turned on and off. Auto-captions have like 50% accuracy on a lot of videos and just generally suck. Fifty percent is about as good as lip-reading without captions. When creators caption their own videos, the captions are correct and helpful.

If you aren’t keen on meal prep (like me), then do an ‘ingredient prep’ day, which is literally just cutting up veggies and washing fruit and greens, so that everything’s easy and quick to cook later. Plus I like to sometimes soak rice or quinoa the night before so it only takes 5 minutes to cook instead of 10-15.
I hate meal prep, but ingredient prep helps keep my cooking creativity.

Another tips related to cleaning your fridge: have a space dedicated to food or ingredients that needs to be consumed very soon, preferably it’s in eye height and at the front of the shelf so it’s the first thing you see when you open the fridge. Doing this increases the chance you’ll eat the food you bought before it goes bad which saves you money and decreases food waste. Win-win!

TFD is so amazing!! I just need all of these "list videos" in pdfs I can print and hang up on my walls or something. And I just have to say, you seem to pick and choose sponsors for videos that legitimately make sense with the content and flow nicely, so it's not weird when you advertise Adobe Scan for example. Love all the effort you put into this channel and helping the rest of us 20-somethings!

Captain Planet I can get a pretty good meal for three bucks at the local supermarket when it is lunch time at work. Much more substantive in calories and health while saving money at the same time. I used to spend upwards 15 bucks per take out which is obviously too high. I’m saving quite a bit by actually putting that saved money into my savings account.

Lots of good info in your video. I have used a couple of these suggestions for a very long time. My paycheck and 401K have been direct deposit since it was first offered at my job and I also use auto payments or online EFT payments for all my recurring bills. One thing that you need to be mindful of is that if you are living with another person, it is a lot more difficult to keep a fridge, freezer and cupboards organized if the person you are living with isn't willing to help out with the plan.

At one point I was on a search to find a "master" grocery list - a magical landing pad where someone in another place would have predicted what I tend to buy from the store. Of course this was a fruitless search, so I decided to make my own. Anytime I thought of an item we typically get from the store (but dont see when I open the fridge or pantry) I would scan my list to see if it was on there, and then either highlight it to show we need it or add it to the list then highlight.
It's been so refined by our typical purchases I haven't needed to add anything in a while, but it's been super helpful for making a grocery list quickly

Going along with #6, food prep, I make up batches of rice, sauce, soup, pasta, cut up veggies (roasted or not), and put each item in large freezer bags. Now, here’s the trick. Before sealing the bag, flatten out the contents. If you freeze a flat, thin layer of anything, they take up less freezer space, and you can just break off a portion for your meal.
That reminds me: I need to make my weekly batch of oatmeal tonight.

Planning out dinner has been a huge money saver for us. Each week, we write out what we will eat for dinner during the week and we always take into consideration what we already have on hand. Items we don't have go on the grocery list as well as any staples we're running low on. I calculate the estimate it will cost (I always round up because I'd rather be under than over) and that's the budget we stick to for that week. It can be a lot of work some weeks, but I'd rather do the work than forget about setting something out to thaw and getting fast food instead.

You don't need a yearly doctor's check up just to look for potential problems if you are young and healthy. It's good to check bloodsugar, weight, and record the diameter of any odd moles you have (to be sure over time it's not skin cancer) but you can do those three things at home and don't need an expensive dr appointment for it. You DO need a yearly cleaning with a dentist though, decay can happen that quickly and getting a cleaning (which ideally is actually supposed to happen twice a year) prevents much more severe and expensive conditions.

My mom is a doctor and she says that regular doctor check-ups are basically a waste of everyone's time and money when you don't have any symptoms and are under 35 (and not in a risk group). You don't catch 8 diseases because you don't check up regularly and doctors have more urgent patients that actually are sick.
EDIT: backing this up with science: www.health.harvard.edu/blog/a-checkup-for-the-checkup-do-you-really-need-a-yearly-physical-201510238473

I am sorry but I disagree. Women need to have regular Pap tests every year or so starting when they become sexually active. And I don't care that you posted a link to backup your crazy advice but I will continue to "waste my time" by getting regular check-ups thank you very much.

    • @Pannenkoekenplantje
      @Pannenkoekenplantje 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Julie Lemire if you feel like that adds something good to your life, go ahead. However, this advice is not crazy, in Europe almost no one outside of risk groups gets yearly check ups and we're doing comparably okay health wise, with lower annual costs per person.

    • @caitlynjones2147

Julie Lemire she wasn’t personally attacking you or anyone who goes to the doctor regularly. She’s not saying you’re a shit person, just don’t have an anxiety attack over not seeing a general practitioner every 12 months.

Just to inform you.=) According to the American Cancer Society, and regulations for primary/gynecological care women no longer need to get Pap tests every year. "All women should begin cervical cancer testing (screening) at age 21. Women aged 21 to 29, should have a Pap test every 3 years. HPV testing should not be used for screening in this age group (it may be used as a part of follow-up for an abnormal Pap test)."

Hey I just discovered you and your channel! I am having so much fun watching you...And, dear God, would you have an account for "Belgium trips"? HAhahaha I live there and I find it weird to think of it as a top-notch destination!
Anyway, keep up the good work, I need so many sources (aka your vids) to binge-watch!!!

I came across you by chance and loved it... if only it wasn't that there are many things I can't related to. In Spain, fortunately, we don't have such a thing as credit score, education loans, or social judgement for getting married later or not having kids. But for the rest, keep up with the good work!

Just make sure that what you’re throwing out from your fridge is actually old and inedible (not just past it’s sell by/best before date, as this stuff can still be totally fine as these are arbitrary dates designated by the manufacturers and sellers to determine when they should restock and when the deem the product tastes best), as otherwise, hello?!! Food waste!!!!

Hi, I'm new to the US and I'm gonna file my taxes this year for the first time. Any advice or videos you can recommend to help me understand the taxation system. Thanks in advance

Sahar Shawa I used FreetaxUSA.com for the first time last year. I used to spend $200 to have a tax preparer do them. Now it only costs me under $20. It was so easy. I'm not tech savvy, and I figured out how to do my own taxes. If you have a 1040 form from your employer, then you can just fill out the online forms. However, if you are dealing with income out of country, maybe a tax preparer would be the better option. I know I had to have my social security number to set up my account through the website. I think they have a support number at the IRS to help with questions as well.

Betsy Russell Turbo Tax is very easy to use as well, but is a bit more in price around thirty. Getting it from Costco makes it easier to buy.

Most things are on the IRS website but are pretty complicated because you don’t know where to start. It’s a good source though, if you need to know a specific answer such as “how much pre-tax money can I contribute to a 401k”
For filing taxes, best is to use free walk-through style programs like tax act and free tax USA. You can even fill out your taxes in a couple of them, to see which one gives the best result. They go through questions and answers, so it’s simple. Then file using the one that results in you paying the least amount. Most are free to e-file your federal taxes and only charge to file a state return. You can also just file the state return yourself fairly easily once you have your federal taxes done. Get the state tax return and see which info to carry over and how to calculate.
Taxes take time but if you can accomplish the addition, subtraction, and multiplication including percentages, and if you can follow written instructions, you can figure it out.

I love this channel so much, I really learn so much from every video and I feel a bit less clueless about important financial information. That said, I have some constructive advice, what can a young adult do when their parents are abusive and won't even let the child get a job, or have their own money?? Is it just a lost cause?

On the subject of cleaning supplies and Clorox, just buy bulk vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice! They're the safest, cheapest and easiest products that work perfectly for every part of the home, can be useful when in need of baking ingredients and are so much better environmentally than perfume/bleach-filled products!
